@WinkyTinky @tizalinatuna It's emotional for us too isn't it as we so want it to be a good experience for them.

miramirae · 27/06/2024 14:16

We have prom coming up next week and transition day tomorrow. DS is excited about the future and sad about leaving school n equal measure I think.

On the subject of proms, I was slightly surprised to receive a letter from school asking parents to give permission for pupils to be given two glasses of beer or wine at the promConfused Is this normal??

WinkyTinky · 27/06/2024 15:05

Crikey, I would have thought that is out of the ordinary @miramirae 😮The bar at our prom is serving only soft drinks.
On another aspect of prom anxiety, bloody Farage is appearing at DS's prom venue today. I hope they fumigate the place overnight.

Farage?
🤮

WinkyTinky · 27/06/2024 16:19

The only thing more enraging than Farage appearing at the venue the day before prom night is that 'd'h, who is away doing his usual own thing at the moment, will be more gutted he's missed this than the fact he's missing taking his son to his prom night...

It's inline with the law for 16 yr old to have wine or beer with a meal! Still surprised though guess it's better than kids sneaking in alcohol especially as its normally spirits to add to soft drinks.

miramirae · 27/06/2024 17:57

Yes I guess that's their thinking. But some of them will probably sneak stuff in anyway (or drink beforehand) so giving them alcohol on top of that sounds like madness

WarningOfGails · 27/06/2024 18:22

Gosh that’s unusual I would think!

I really hope DD enjoys prom, it’s not that likely tbh so bracing myself…

MerylSqueak · 27/06/2024 22:57

Dd's school have just sent a letter to say it's a school event and anyone breaking school riles will be escorted outside and their parents/ carers rung, with special mention of alcohol being prohibited.

Hope everyone's kids who are off to prom tomorrow have a great time.

Waspie · 28/06/2024 17:05

Hope tonight's proms go well. I'm surprised at the alcohol offer to be honest.

DS had a transition day at 2nd choice sixth form yesterday and did not enjoy it. He's a bit stunned actually; everyone raves about it, he has friends there already and was expecting to have a great experience.

What he says he's learnt is that he wants to attend a school sixth form and not a large college. Transition day for [school] choice 1 on Monday. Go on holiday on Tuesday - yay!

BlackBean2023 · 29/06/2024 05:47

It's really all over now - prom done, book return day done and no more transition days...

DD was happy with her plan B until transition day on Wednesday; now she's less sure so is pinning all her hopes on her first choice which is highly selective sixth form.

54 long days to wait!

BestsellingWine · 30/06/2024 10:44

I finally had the chance to properly clear out ds bedroom yesterday of all books etc. Really hit home that this is it. He’s almost a grown up! We have still got transition day to come but after the euphoria of finishing exams it all feels very odd now

Tebheag · 30/06/2024 11:01

Going to be a long 48/56 hrs here covid has hit our house. So far DS does not have it fingers crossed it stays that way as prom is Tuesday.
He is so excited about going after not being fussed last year. He is hiding away in a room downstairs while rest of us are staying away easy for me as been too ill to leave the bedroom.

Popfan · 30/06/2024 15:54

Prom was Friday, DS enjoyed it and he and his girlfriend won best couple! He has a college taster session on Tuesday for his carpentry course which he's looking forward to. He's been working a bit , playing his sport and he's done some nice things such as going to Thorpe Park. So thoroughly enjoying his summer!

@Tebheag I hope your DS stays well so he can enjoy his prom!

DippyDoo98 · 01/07/2024 07:42

@WinkyTinky
how did your son get on at prom?
im feeling quite anxious about dd’s prom but trying to hide it! She’s got a nice group of friends but she is socially anxious and won’t admit it to them so she can become quite cactus like when she’s stressed and they understandably don’t know why. I worry she won’t deal with the prom and she’ll just sit by herself. I’m just hoping for some lovely photos of her as she loves her dress.

WinkyTinky · 01/07/2024 09:30

Thanks for asking @DippyDoo98 Well, he got through it. We sat in the car until the last minute as he looked on in horror at everyone in their friendship groups all happy and having photos together. Eventually we got out of the car and walked over to where they were all queuing to get in and some of the boys came to him so he joined them and went in. He won headteachers award which was lovely, but when we got home he was in tears and just wanted to talk about how he feels lost now that school has ended 😭His upset wasn't really about the prom, more about the future and trying to find something that makes him happy. Argh!
I'm sure your ds will have a lovely time if she has nice friends. It's a lot of pressure on these kids who look like adults when really they're still very much kids, so for any of them to get this far, they've done amazing! I hope you get lots of lovely photos.

DippyDoo98 · 01/07/2024 10:19

Sounds like your son is a lovely boy and similar to my daughter. Well done to him on the award!
She is likely to sit in the car until the last minute. Her friends are lovely but not very empathetic- she needs someone to take her in hand and sweep her along but they tend to be oblivious to her needs. Can’t blame them as they are likely to be too busy doing their own thing. Just wish she’d open up to them and perhaps they’d understand more.
think my dd is ready for a complete change to school where she’s always felt like she’s not fit in- she hates all the banter and younger ones being silly so hope that college will be just what she needs. A chance to leave everything behind and start a new. Still not decided on a levels - think she’s hoping for inspiration once the results come out. No idea on a career at this point which causes her lots of anxiety as well 🙈

hels71 · 02/07/2024 18:43

First day of induction today, which went well. Got tomorrow and Thursday morning, then prom Thursday night.

Tebheag · 04/07/2024 17:43

Yippee DS stayed bug free and made it to prom. Had a great time not stopped talking about the car he went. No joy on a part time job he has spent ages applying and looking for jobs he can apply for. Hope all going well with the rest of you.

hels71 · 04/07/2024 19:38

DD is at her prom! Really hope she enjoys it.

DippyDoo98 · 04/07/2024 23:13

Prom success!
can’t believe she went and had a great time!
I’m so so proud of her! She has struggled with social anxiety for a long time and she doubted whether she would go to prom only a few months ago. A major wobble just before she set off but she coped and managed her feelings and did it.
great for her to have some positive memories of school ❤️

hels71 · 11/07/2024 22:07

DD enjoyed prom and thought sixth form induction was "ok". She has, however, started to read the English set texts which is some kind of miracle!!

Pharos · 15/07/2024 14:03

Looking ahead to results day, how does your dc’s school do it?

We had the details for ds last week - results on their school account from 8am. He’s ok about that as it gives him time to digest them before seeing his mates.

Does anywhere still do collection in person?

Tiredalwaystired · 15/07/2024 14:04

Yes our school still does in person. They are expected to come in and collect as those that are registering for a levels do it on the day.

tizalinatuna · 15/07/2024 14:11

My DDs is in person. They want to snap them up for sixth form right away!
