Dts has been into school for Spanish and History revision. Great that the teachers have given up some of their Saturday for this! Dtd stayed in bed 😬

We have spent the day doing chemistry but she is so tired I don't know how much is being taken in. I've told her to relax for a few hours then we will do a quick overview of I media. Tomorrow will be a quick overview of weinmar Germany and then maths. The maths is making me nervous. She has struggled with maths, and we did ask if she could sit the foundation paper. The school were reluctant so she is still in higher and was getting 5s in the mocks before GCSEs but it feels like a very narrow margin. Four exams in two days is so heavy but at least weds the majority is over and she just has physics. Cannot wait for this week to end

bingobluey78 · 08/06/2024 19:49

Had a fall out with DD when it got to 3pm and she still hadn't done anything and told me she was off out for a bit with friends. I know she's out of steam. She said she just doesn't really care anymore and that she thought she'd care but doesn't 😬
Anyway, she went out but returned two hours later and has been working since (I think). She has a lot to do for maths, history and chemistry- all of which she had wanted to do well in. If she can just somehow make herself revise a bit for this last week otherwise I know she'll be so cross with herself.

Feeling just the same with maths 😵‍💫

TrixieFatell · 08/06/2024 20:22

Imedia is OCR apparently. She chose it as it was a coursework based option, but then at Christmas she was told there would be an exam counting for 40% of the mark. She went from a distinction to a pass as a result of her mocks so hoping she can pull it together. She wishes she hadn't chosen it now there's an exam.

Ahh ok. Was the coursework done in year 11? We are contemplating this for my youngest but don’t know much about the course yet. 40% isn’t too bad I guess. How is it graded? Level 1 pass, merit , distinction and level 2 the same?

Countrylife2002 · 08/06/2024 20:37

DD has seen her maths tutor, spent most of the day doing chemistry flash cards , and now just finished her history flashcards. I don’t understand her process but she seems happy with it !

Yes it's been mainly coursework for the two years, the last part is the exam. It's graded as you have said. My daughter wouldn't have taken it if she had known what it was really like, she's found it ok but a bit boring

Ah thanks. Do you know what grade is equal to a gcse grade 4? I will let mine know that she found it boring. She’s not 100% on it but showing an interest.

I think it's a P2

Lots of revision this weekend.
This morning was maths then chemistry then a bit of history this evening.
But ds managed to watch a film today as well.
Tomorrow will be much of the same.

WarningOfGails · 09/06/2024 07:50

DD hasn’t done any revision so far this weekend, and she’s got Chemistry, History and Further Maths on Tuesday. Chem is one of her weaker subjects. Hoping she’s productive today - leaving her behind while we head to the beach…

BestsellingWine · 09/06/2024 10:43

My mind is now going to results! Just haven’t a clue how ds has done. He is confident about a few but then says something like everyone on tiktok says the answer was x, I know they are all wrong and the answer was y!

I just couldn’t imagine him doing worse than his mocks but now I’m wondering if he might have done - because there is just so much content to revise at once. Would be interesting to hear from Anyone who has been through this before, were the final results much different to mocks results?

LighthouseCat · 09/06/2024 10:49

@BestsellingWine went through it last year. All but one result was same or better than mocks. She had felt all the exams had gone pretty well and she's a good judge usually of how she's done. She was still very nervous on results day (as was I!).
This year, I just have no idea how it's all gone.

BestsellingWine · 09/06/2024 11:22

Thanks Lighthouse - I guess I’ve just got to put it out of my mind for the next few months

ComingInByAnsible · 09/06/2024 11:53

No revision here yesterday. We had a day out as we all needed a break, and some oxygen, and not to stare at screens or paper. This morning DS is still asleep - will wake him up at noon as agreed so he can make a start on chemistry. He is finding it very hard to keep going, he just wants it all to be over.

ComingInByAnsible · 09/06/2024 11:57

We have a crazy stressful summer with building work starting in a couple of weeks, and packing up the house, and moving in with PILs, plus madness at work. The next few months will be horrible but at least we'll be distracted from thinking about and waiting for the GCSE results! Silver lining and all that...

Tiredalwaystired · 09/06/2024 12:07

Anyone doing some thing nice with their teen the day they finish exams or close to it to celebrate? I know someone said they were taking their kid abroad but that’s not possible as we still have one in school. Any other nice ideas to mark it?

gingercat02 · 09/06/2024 12:18

DS has just done a maths past paper and admitted that in his head, yesterday, he was done. He knows he needs to knuckle down to Maths, Spanish, and a bit of chemistry for the rest of the day.

Philandbill · 09/06/2024 12:36

@Tiredalwaystired we are having a takeaway of her choice. Very, very rarely have them so she's very pleased. 😀At the moment it looks like a Thai meal but that may change...

I've bought mine a giant Lego set so he can come away from screens for a while every day...! Not sure how many his age still want to build Lego though. We will also have a takeaway or meal out of his choice 🙂
I feel rotten today, absolutely done with it all but still plastering on the positivity and helping with chemistry revision later ..

I'd love a giant Lego set!!!

TeenDivided · 09/06/2024 12:54

My DD (not doing GCSEs) has just bought herself quite a large paint by numbers which she is finding relaxing so far.
