Eton

Highgate is a football school. No rugby at all thank goodness

Runemum · 09/04/2024 22:24

Millfield in Somerset is well-known for sports. It is good for football and is quite academic.

I know that Brooke House in Market Harborough has a football academy but I'm not sure how academic it is.

DH was a football coach at a private school. Their big fixtures were Brentwood and Oundle. Pretty sure Lampard Jr and possibly also Jamie Redknapp went to Brentwood.

Alleyns in South London - no boarding house though.

okgoonthen · 10/04/2024 07:02

It's a grammar, not private, but Tiffin is investing in football as a performance sport and has also added sports aptitude places to its admissions policy for 2025.

Rozbos · 10/04/2024 07:18

Brentwood is very good for football, and all sports however only offers boarding for international students.

St John's Ridgeway (Potters Bar) is a football school. They have very tight links with Arsenal and most of their football boys are in the Arsenal or Watford academies. When my teen was there two years ago, they were the U14 National champions I believe.

HawaiiWake · 10/04/2024 09:26

Alleyn and Emanuel in London.

CaptainOhMyCaptain · 10/04/2024 10:55

Hampton

EasterMoM2024 · 10/04/2024 21:46

I suppose it depends where you live ? Unless your children board?

DustyD2 · 11/04/2024 12:58

If he's good enough for a premier league / championship club academy then the school will dovetail his studies around his frequent training away from school. I know of Radnor House and Hampton in west London/Richmond that do this.

caringcarer · 11/04/2024 23:23

I used to teach at St. George's in Birmingham. They had 2 players who played for Birmingham City in their academy. They allowed these boys to go to training sessions twice midweek. The condition was they did not fall behind with academic work. Teachers set work for when they were at football and they did it after school for homework.

Well the current Arsenal star Ethan Nwaneri was at St John's (Ridgeway) at the same time as my daughter. He was already famous when he was at school (I think he made the Premier League at 15) and as far as I'm aware St John's were very supportive of him. As mentioned up thread, they have links with Arsenal and many of their football boys are in the Arsenal academy.

Avoid Brooke House College if you mind about academics, they came almost last in the league tables for the county https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/real-life/leicestershire-schools-best-worst-level-9477403.amp

Comefromaway · 13/03/2025 10:05

You are comparing an inclusive school with a high number of students who don't have English as their first language with some very academic institutions.

Magdalena83 · 13/03/2025 13:25

The vast majority of the students are English first language, the minority are English second language. Also many schools on that list are regular state schools and not private. The focus there is purely football, academics come second
