Our WL offer turned into an offer this morning, im so thrilled to say that DS is going to Dulwich College in September 🎉🎉🎉cannot wait to break the news to him !

Wonderful news! Have close family at Dulwich, a lovely school in so many respects.

@ncsurrey22 thank you !! We really loved KGS too and would have been an excellent choice if Dulwich would not have worked , will definitely be on our list of schools for our younger children in a few years !

Thanks again everyone hope those who are still waiting have good news as well to share.
we just declined KGS …

Flimpychunk · 04/03/2024 17:26

Help!! I abandoned the thread and have gone into ostrich mode as making the choice has felt overwhelming. I think it’s because we opted for KGS over RGS for DS1 and I now regret it so feeling paralysed with DS2.

We’re torn between Hampton and RGS. DC initially preferred RGS but has since been won over by Hampton. I don’t know what metrics to go on any more Confused

Both are excellent schools - we were advised to consider RGS for DS but two things ruled it out for us:

  1. journey - a lot longer than the journey to Hampton (and KGS etc); and
  2. my DS is football mad so the thought of no school football led to a flat out rejection from DS.

How do the journeys stack up and does your DS have sports preferences?

How did you find the feel of the schools - my and DS’s impression from our respective tours was that RGS seemed more formal (hard to explain why - might just be me and DS being weird!)

Flimpychunk · 04/03/2024 17:48

The journey is probably similar because he’d get a coach to Hampton and it would be around 45 minutes in traffic, and for RGS it would be the train and it would be roughly the same as we’re very close to Claygate station. It would be easier to get to Hampton not in peak hours though. DS is a cricket nut but they play that in both schools, but football is his second favourite sport so Hampton has the advantage.

We also had a more “stuffy” impression of RGS with DS1 which is why I think he chose KGS but that was in Covid times so we didn’t actually visit the school and we liked it much better in person, though I agree it seems more traditional.

I just don’t know any more!

Summerma · 04/03/2024 17:53

What would you do on days when trains are playing up? In the end as much as I loved Emanuel I didn’t push my preference on DS for that reason - the trains where we live are a bit of a nightmare. I know parents who have to drive their kids into school when there are strikes/engineering works and that’s not something we could do. Would that cause issues for you or is it not really a problem?

redrobin75 · 04/03/2024 17:55

@Flimpychunk , you can PM me if you want, I live near you and my ds has been at Hampton for many years. We didn't apply to RGS because there wasn't football on offer but they are both excellent schools and your dc will probably achieve the same academic results at both.

Flimpychunk · 04/03/2024 17:58

It would be annoying but lots of DS1’s friends are there and they said they lift share so I think we could possibly jump in on that.

I think in the end (ie in a couple of hours 😅) we’ll probably go with DS’s choice as he’s the one going to be going there. I did really like Hampton so hopefully we won’t regret it like we did for ds1.

I feel your pain @Flimpychunk ... It's so hard isn't it???

We finally just made our decision and went with Hampton. While we didn't apply to RGS (bcs of distance), we chose Hampton over KGS/others .... for us the biggest draw card was the sport (also football mad dc), and the amazing on site sports grounds. He loves the idea of having a kick-around with his friends at break times and I think that physical movement is so important for him - will help focus in class too. This just wasn't available at KGS. We also liked the bigger and more open spaces indoors - from the width of hallways to just moving space in classrooms... it felt open and "breathable" at Hampton, and while it's not sports/academic/extra-curricular related, that was also something that I thought would be beneficial psychologically/subconsciously especially as they grow. But above all else, my ds just liked "the energy" at Hampton. So fingers crossed! Good luck with your decision! Just think this time tomorrow, you will have it all sorted and can relax! :)

Does any one know about waiting list at Sevenoaks school? Has the waiting list shrunk?

Itsalmostoverpart2 · 05/03/2024 07:37

Does anyone know if G&L and LU waitlists have moved so far this year? Have the schools sent any updates to waitlist offer holders?

Popping back onto the thread to say a huge congratulations to @Wondermumof4 and DS! What fabulous news, you must be so chuffed.

Good luck to anyone still waiting for WL offers and hope that everyone who has made a decision is happy with it. What a flipping rollercoaster! Sending best wishes to all DC for their new adventures.

Lolakath19 · 05/03/2024 09:47

@Itsalmostoverpart2 also looking forward to hear on this as we have one friend on the G&L WL.

Wondermumof4 · 05/03/2024 10:05
