And that, dear @FreshWinterMorning is why there is a recruitment crisis in UK schools, and one third of all ECTs quit within the first five years. I would be absolutely delighted to do eleven weeks straight of 9.00 to 3.30, taking no marking or preparation home, doing no parents' evenings or booster classes, writing no reports, yada, yada etc.
But, you, know, I wasn't even especially thinking of myself when I wrote that, because teachers actually care about their pupils. If you read upthread, you will see plenty of PP stating that their children were wiped out after an 8.5 week half term and desperately in need of the Christmas break.
Again, for those at the back. Pupils at state schools in the UK are taught for 190 days per year. The holiday pattern varies slightly year on year. Teachers do an extra 5 INSET days which were taken out of their holiday entitlement when the Thatcher government introduced them in the 1980s. Even if INSET days had never been invented, your children would not be at school on that day.
So, @FreshWinterMorning , when will you be signing up to become a qualified teacher? It being such a doddle, and all?
