Not sure if this thread has been started but if not, I would like to share experiences, tips and generally talk about schools and their pros and cons and processes to ease the anxiety and pain for us parents :)

Don’t want to feed into all this but I think @PreplexJ was just trying to answer your question about league tables. Some parents like me went through the process in previous years and like to come back to these forums to try to pass on experience and advices we receive. I personally found it was very helpful to have views from parents that went through it in the past. It can also be the case that those parents have some younger siblings and keen to see if there are any new things they should be aware of. My dd is in one of this competitive schools and I am happy to answer any question if people have some about the process or schools. It is always a very stressful time especially for parents.

Westlondonmum2024 · 15/11/2023 21:59

@Lolakath19 I understand that. However as they mentioned he or she has not gone through the experience with her kids nor is she applying and it seems if she/he doesn’t agree with something then they are wrong and the back and forth doesn’t stop. Clearly she doesn’t have the stress of applying:). There is no point to respond anymore as we have more important things to worry about. We should all support rather than judge here.

Lolakath19 · 15/11/2023 22:01

Agreed! Has your DC done some exams already? How much are you sitting and do you have any preferred one so far?

Westlondonmum2024 · 15/11/2023 22:04

@Lolakath19 We have applied to 5 so we will see what happens. where is your dc?

PreplexJ · 15/11/2023 22:20

@Lolakath19 long time, hope your DC settle well in the high school.

Yes I have time this year, happy to support with parents doing 11+ now with useful information and probably with juedgement on some opinions too.

Toolongawait24 · 16/11/2023 00:04

Last years thread was incredibly useful and helpful during the stressful exam season - sometimes the arguments were helpful as well during the wait period. A lot of parents who had been through the process helped allay fears and provide valuable input. Happy to return this favour to help current year parents. Happy to answer questions pertaining to girls schools in central london and NW London.

Lolakath19 · 16/11/2023 06:56

Our DD is at G&L. @Westlondonmum2024 5 is a nice number. Have you visited them all? We had not visited any at this stage (following our school advice) and waited to have actual offers to do so. I probably would not do that again. I would not bring my daughter but would have a look at least at too feel less stressed and pressured to take our decision.

SamPoodle123 · 16/11/2023 06:59

I have to say I felt last year's thread was a bit livelier, but maybe now this thread will pick up some more action :) It was great to have the thread to connect with people going through the same. Last year I did not know many doing the 11+ and the ones I knew I could not really discuss it with (barely knew them). I am not doing it this year, but like pp mentioned I want to stay in the loop and pick up tips. DS is year 5, so we are prepping now.

As for sixth form movement, of course everyone will have different reasons for it. Before my dd even started her school, she mentioned perhaps she would apply to X school for sixth form if she wanted coed (a school we are looking at for her brother). I have a friend who had the same reasons and another who wanted to stay single sex, but a more competitive school.

@PreplexJ not sure how you know that it does not matter. She might have change email address or she just wants to reinvent herself or start fresh The good thing on here is that you can be yourself without fearing being judge or unable to ask question. Unfortunately it is a small world and some people are trying to recognise other people lol.

I have DCs at 2 different London selective independents - happy to give advice. One at LU, one at all girls.
(I also change user names a lot as I don't want to be identified in real life!)

Westlondonmum2024 · 16/11/2023 08:26

@PreplexJ i am not sure who the other west London mother is but I am sure by the looks of it you went crazy with her too. Bless you that so much time on your hand. Everyone is just telling me to ignore you which I will.

Where is everyone applying, I am looking at my diary from last year and looks like exam had started on the 17 nov for us last year with Wimbledon high and then city on 18. Spgs on 21 and Putney on 25. We also had Henrietta Barnett round 2 beg of October. Can’t believe it’s been a year already

@Lolakath19 We have WHS today and then PHS next. Can your DD remember how the PHS exam was like? Was it like atom?

Lolakath19 · 16/11/2023 09:03

whs was on paper verbal and non verbal
phs was on atom maths and english

PreplexJ · 16/11/2023 09:04

@ThePlacesYouGo "might I respectfully ask that you absent yourself from this forum so that parents wanting collaborative help and support feel that this is a non-judgemental space where they can share their experiences and anxieties."

Respectfully I would NOT absent myself to provide arguments alongside support information to this forum. I respect having varied opinions that can represent the entire range rather than some who only advocate a particular theme or agenda. Genuine support should be based on sound reasoning and sincerity rather than mere conformity.

Lolakath19 · 16/11/2023 09:04

@Iffiyas crossing fingers for your DD! I think we received WHS results quite quickly beginning of December so not too long of a wait!

ThePlacesYouGo · 16/11/2023 09:07

@PreplexJ It's not about conformity or about a range of opinions. I fully respect those. It's about tone. And yours is aggressive and judgemental.

Anyway, no worries. The general consensus on here is that everyone is going to ignore your posts from hereon in so go ahead and a bluster on into the void. You'll get no more takers for your bait.

ThePlacesYouGo · 16/11/2023 09:08

@Iffiyas The feedback from those sitting WHS yesterday was that it was very well organised and girls came out happy. Good luck to your DD today!

“The general consensus on here is that everyone is going to ignore your posts from hereon in so go ahead and a bluster on into the void.“

It seems that you are trying to be the general consensus for many threads. Unfortunately it does not work like that.

Lolakath19 · 16/11/2023 09:27

@Iffiyas @ThePlacesYouGo i remember my daughter having a lovely time at whs and phs assessment. For whs 50min vr and 30min NVR is what I had noted last year.i think NVR was splitted in time subsections 3*10 min for NVR
