Not sure if this thread has been started but if not, I would like to share experiences, tips and generally talk about schools and their pros and cons and processes to ease the anxiety and pain for us parents :)

Hi all,

any tips about how to prepare KGS interview ? Ours is on the 5th of January.
What kind of questions do they ask ? Anyone has been through that before ? Its first time for us :) sorry if this has been asked already.

thank you !

Following on from this, does anyone have any insight in to what to expect from a Maths interview at KGS? How rigorous is the testing - is it a discussion or watching them work on some maths questions? Will there be some general chat too?

travelturtle · 04/12/2023 15:44

Similar question here about KGS interview but an English one. Anyone have children who have had one of those? Assume they maybe get a passage to read and talk about and then some general questions about hobbies and interests etc? Be great to know roughly what to expect.

May I ask, how did other DC find the Emanuel maths exam? DD finished Maths very early which is worrying me. I am wondering if she misunderstood some questions and leapt to a quick answer when she should’ve spent longer. Nothing I can do now of course though!

I wish I could answer but getting any level of detail out of DS about the exam has so far proved impossible. I know that he got a jam doughnut in one break.

ALongProcess · 04/12/2023 16:40

@minipie according to DS everyone finished early! I was having exactly the same worries, so your message is actually quite comforting...

ModeWeasel · 04/12/2023 16:54

Medium to easy

Summerma · 04/12/2023 17:12

@minipie DS finished early too. He said the paper was pretty true to the sample papers on the website (maybe one or two of the qs were more difficult).

minipie · 04/12/2023 17:15

Ok thank you that is reassuring.

Yes DD was quite pleased by the snacks!!

Wondermumof4 · 04/12/2023 17:19

Hi ! My son said there was nothing tricky and that he thinks he did well , Finger crossed …🤞🏻

farfallarocks · 04/12/2023 17:28

dd finished early and she finds maths challenging. I too wasn't sure if this was a good or bad sign!

A few of her friends found verbal hard.

Have emanuel had their reserve date yet?

minipie · 04/12/2023 18:04

I know of some who were ill on Fri taking Emanuel this Thursday, but also know of a couple of kids taking it in January (longer term medical reasons)

travelturtle · 04/12/2023 19:05

League table of 11+ exam snacks needed I think. DS reports doughnut at Emanuel was great. Didn’t appreciate the penguin bar at Hampton though … they need to up their game 😂

minipie · 04/12/2023 19:10

Chocolate chip cookies seem to be a common theme at the girls’ schools.

SCHS had memorable brownies and mini sausages but that was at the open day (I may have tried a few…)

Summerma · 04/12/2023 19:40

@travelturtle Haha - agreed. DS is being provided lunch during one of his upcoming exams, he is quite excited as the tempura prawns at the open day were quite something (we may have had one or twenty…)

swlondon24 · 04/12/2023 20:36

box of jellybeans at LEH plus kitkat took 1st place for DD. KGS with kitkat + yoyo close second.

@SkaterGrrrrl yes we did. There’s another KGS session tomorrow so won’t say much, but yes it seemed to go OK. First one done at least 👏🏻

Does anyone know how many they approx interview at KGS?

Hahaha. The way DD has gorged on cookies / croissants / pain au chocolate etc at open days, the schools must think I never feed her... 😂

LOL. My dd was totally like this during the exams, interviews etc. She loved all the treats that were given and acted like we do not feed her at home. But I guess it is because we usually do not have those things at home (we buy them as treats, but don't have them stored at home).

SkaterGrrrrl · 05/12/2023 15:36

Has anyone had an email from Radnor House today?

Keep hitting refresh on my email like a lab rat hoping for a pellet.

Vetiver444 · 05/12/2023 18:07

@SkaterGrrrrl I think you’re a month early - pretty sure they said they’d email 5th January 🙂

travelturtle · 05/12/2023 18:40

Yes it’s 5 Jan I’m afraid for Radnor

Iffiyas · 05/12/2023 19:28

@SkaterGrrrrl its 5th January! Great simile though 🤣

SkaterGrrrrl · 05/12/2023 19:43

Oh no! 😳
