Is there any DeI-free private girls school in Hertfordshire?

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew about schools in Hertfordshire where gender identity was not a thing.
Thanks!

everybody has gender identity, i think you’d be pretty hard pushed to find somewhere where it is not a thing. i imagine you don’t want any pronouns either?

NegativeCreeep · 26/09/2023 20:45

St Chris School in Letchworth is very liberal (no uniform, teachers called by their first names etc), but is co-ed…

I absolutely do not have a gender identity! It’s utter rubbish.
@WorkinMumsince4ever I am also a Hertfordshire mum and would love to know too! I did get a bit of intel on St Albans High, will dig it out later.

Here’s what I was told about STAHS.

LOL no thanks. I have a sex not a gender. 🤣

What age are the children OP? Westbrook Hay has allegedly not drank the kool aid but it's a prep. Might be worth seeing where their girls end up for 13+ though. Hertfordshire has a massive dearth of girls schools at every level IME. It's why we couldn't put DS in private - there was nowhere within a reasonable distance to put DD when the time came.

Don't be so ridiculous. It wasn't really a thing anywhere until quite recently. And no, not everybody has a gender identity. I have a sex. Gender is simply a bunch of stereotypes. Unfortunately, some people have decided that rather than continuing to dismantle and reject outdated sex-based stereotypes, it would be better if we categorised everyone according to them.

Here OP I just found this on RMS in Rickmansworth. If you read what they're saying rather than how they're saying it, their actual policies seem sensible and sound. I especially like:

"Should a pupil disclose that they are having gender identity thoughts, that they are identifying as trans, gender fluid, gender non-conforming, non- binary or gender questions, the school’s overall approach is not an affirming and encouraging one, it is a supportive and inclusive one." [followed by exactly what they mean by that].

I also liked: "We remain a girls school." Which is an excellent complete sentence. ;)

Basically it sounds like they will facilitate girls who need to explore their gender but that they also understand their duty is to act in the best interests of all pupils not just the few. And that they are not going to allow biological males to attend any time soon.

They have also specifically addressed toilets and changing rooms (all cubicles), boarding and school trips.

If we lived closer to Rickmansworth or if we move further in that direction in the future I would consider RMS actually, they sound very sensible and very aware of the fine balancing act they need to maintain.

Thank you @NegativeCreeep , wouldn’t mind if it wasn’t too far from us. 😬

You what now?!?

Of course they dont.

WorkinMumsince4ever · 26/09/2023 23:34

@BarqsHasBite thank you so much for sharing. It’s truly appreciated. My heart shrinks for STAHS. Why would anyone be ok by removing the word “girl” at all?! I was considering that school for my little one. No more. Why do they do that to the girls? Is there an end to the madness?

I don't, thank you very much.
I'm female/a woman. No idea what gender I am though.

This is my school. It's not as liberal as it was

WorkinMumsince4ever · 26/09/2023 23:42

@WomenShouldStillWinWomensSports this is extremely helpful! Thank you. I used to work in Ricky and know the school. Their approach sounds super reasonable! Thanks again! I wonder how can people believe in something that doesn’t make sense? I’ll try to move my DD in their prep school, the current one started this week talking about non-scientific stuff (gender identity). I am still livid.

@WorkinMumsince4ever
Could you do all women and girls everywhere a favour and when you don't choose stahs and your current - tell them why. We need to make sure everyone hears women saying no.

WorkinMumsince4ever · 27/09/2023 08:16

@arethereanyleftatall absolutely! Will do. In one of the worst open days I attended, I asked if and how the gender identity was given at school to the girl giving the tour. She changed her expression, reflected, lowered her voice and mentioned that only females were allowed to the school. Couldn’t get more from her. Too bad because the school looked fantastic.

Wow, poor thing sounds scared. It's a horrible situation our girls have been put in.

@arethereanyleftatall yes she looked hesitant to discuss.
Yes, it was very strange. Another girl mentioned she wanted to study medicine and enjoyed reading philosophy. She wanted to prepare, understand people before treating them, and mentioned she believed in science.

Thank you @CruCru . We used to live in Nottingham… should have stayed 😬, or maybe not… I didn’t know that person was their MP. how can someone dare to criticise the schools decision?

Just checked the trust website and they have a couple of them not too far from us. Thank you! It bring us hope! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

No gender identity here either. And pronouns are used as they always have been - referencing the sex of an individual when referring to them in the third person so my conversational partner knows who I am referring to.

WorkinMumsince4ever · 27/09/2023 21:54

@BarqsHasBite I was looking at the same schools as well. Attended an open day at Beko, asked about Del (should have been more direct) and got a politically correct answer.
You’re right, St Columbus may be an option, but can’t stand my daughter asking then to go to the church (she attended catholic school before). From one religion to another.

Need to consider that option, do not engage… however I hate to say it, but my daughter pays attention and (despite all my efforts), she wants to believe the teachers and institutions. Teaching the art of critical thinking feels like teaching rocket science at times.

Thank you all, 99% of you are stars!
