So we're not really getting anyway this end.

Nobody is getting back to DD or me. Are any teachers/school staff replying? How are we supposed to get anything secured without any communication?

UPDATE-Sorry, I have just received an email from the school saying that the scripts will take a while due to the volume being requested.

Neversaygoodbye · 29/08/2023 18:40

@MrsBeetlejuice I contacted our school exams office by email (thats what they asked you to do) on Friday regarding scripts but haven't heard anything back either. I'm not sure why they ask you to email them if there's nobody there, it would be nice to at least get an acknowledgment of receipt of email.
We're also still waiting to see if son's enrolment to college has been successful as he's just missed the "ideally have" grade for one subject. Keeping my fingers crossed we hear soon.

MrsBeetlejuice · 29/08/2023 18:46

@Sadtimes1 ah, well I guess that makes sense. My DD actually just got a response from the exam department saying she needs to go through the teachers first (?) That can't be right. They didn't mark the exams.

@Neversaygoodbye fingers crossed for your ds 🤞

Teachers are on holiday. Have you tried the exams officer?

Argh... I now see you have! As a teacher I would want to see the script to see if it's worth reviewing. Is that maybe what they mean?

vickibee · 29/08/2023 19:58

@Sadtimes1
Yes a L2 Esports course. He us a committed gamer.
He passed eng lang because it was abt bullet trains and he knows a lot olf random shit. If he'd had to write an imaginary story he would have flunked it x

MargaretThursday · 29/08/2023 20:08

Those who have requested scripts: Ds applied on Thursday evening, and has just received his through-and the school is normally fairly quick off the mark on such things.
He didn't hear anything between submitting the request and receiving them.
He's currently reckoning one he thinks he may be able to see the marks he needs (but he may be optimistic, so I'm going to get his dsis to look too) and the other he reckons is right.

Oh that’s great, my son is exactly the same with the gaming! Unfortunately no level 2 esports here only level 3. My son is having to do a level 2 IT course (as he has already done media) alongside English. I hope that your son is successful and loves his course!

Neversaygoodbye · 29/08/2023 20:44

Thanks @MargaretThursday good to know. Hopefully we'll hear soon.

vickibee · 29/08/2023 21:16

@Sadtimes1
thank you, he is disappointed he’s not on L3, he has to retake maths in November.
Could your son look at alternative colleges that offer L2?
considering everything he has been through he has done well, he lost his dad suddenly in 2021 just after covid so it ps been really tough.

I am so sorry to hear that, he has done unbelievably well under the circumstances. My DS also lost his dad but when he was much younger. I wish you both all the best, I know how tough it can be.
Unfortunately, we only have one college locally that does esports and only at level 3.

OvaHere · 30/08/2023 08:47

DS has headed off to enrol this morning so we'll find out if they'll still let him do Biology (5 marks off one grade needed).

Gawd his organisation leaves a lot to be desired though. He's lost his results slip. Luckily he has already uploaded it onto the college system and has a photo. He also announced a few minutes before the bus was due he thinks he should have signed up to something to pay an enrolment fee before he goes but doesn't know how or whether it's something I should have done.

Emails from this college don't get duplicated to me unlike every other college I've experienced and I'm assuming that's because they are expected to be independent thinkers and sort their own shizzle out! I'm trying to encourage that in him but dear lord give me patience. 😂

mumonthehill · 30/08/2023 13:03

Well one blazer bought and school tie. New school have a real tie and not a clip on so ds learning how to tie it! He has never had a blazer before and he looked very smart, we got it from our local old fashioned gentlemans outfitters and they kept calling ds sir!

Neversaygoodbye · 30/08/2023 14:09

We've received scripts for 3 subjects requested. Exams officer said she'd asked teachers to review them too - obviously realise they're still on holidays so understand this might not be a quick process.

I had a very quick look at DS first biology paper & honestly I could kick him up the bum for silly errors! This could just be a very painful process for all involved, lol.

I'm completely accepting that this might go no further but you never know.

Piony · 30/08/2023 14:26

Those who have got scripts back, do you also get a marking scheme with them? Or literally just the paper they wrote? I am wondering how able we would be to assess the marks without a mark scheme to spell it out. DC's school is giving a blanket "no" to any teachers reviewing their scripts so we are on our own.

I am in 2 minds about reviewing anyway. Maybe it's just kinder to celebrate the mark she got - someone has to be one mark off the next grade up.

Circleoffifths · 30/08/2023 14:42

We had DD’s raw mark back for English language today. Closer to the higher grade boundary than the lower one but not close enough to request a review I think so we are going to leave that now. Putting the GCSEs to bed now - she has prep work to do still for 6th form next week.

Frenchyq25 · 30/08/2023 14:46

School finally got back to us with DS marks, he was really close to higher boundaries for 3 subjects , so going to request the papers for these.

megletthesecond · 30/08/2023 15:55

DS enrolled in his back up college today. He's managed a decent trio of A-levels there.

Tomorrow he's enrolling at the college he wants, on the doorstep. I just hope he can get the same a-levels. He wants to change from his original choices and they might not have any wriggle room.

SummerChilling · 30/08/2023 16:45

@Piony we spent 2hrs going through biology and physics papers you can see what they got marked and out of what total. We highlighted a few questions my child thought they’d done better on and then cross checked with the AQA revision guide book. I’d say 80% we then could see where they’d gone wrong but there are still a couple I’d like a teachers input on. We’ve only looking for one point off the grade boundary. On the back of this it’s been interesting to see whole sections they got zero on and they reflect the syllabus not being completed at their school. They have got a place at college confirmed to do A levels but I think may need help to make up that lost learning as grounding for the Alevel course . So without a ‘marking scheme’ or being a teacher I could help work out quite a bit of intel from the raw papers. So it was worth doing. We are going to appeal just one of the four papers to see if the grade goes up mainly to help Uni applications.

ah, so it's not just my DC then Smile. Last night at 11pm I had to nag her to complete the travel pass form I'd given her days ago so college could stamp it at enrolment today. She hadn't checked her emails so found out 30mins before she left the house that she had an audition to do for A level music - luckily she has been preparing for an audition on Saturday so was able to pre-cycle that piece, but nearly headed out without her instrument.

She met the A-level requirements, but had a long and nervous delay at enrolment as she had a timetable clash. She's doing an unusual combination and it got to the point where they were asking her which one she might swap, which bearing in mind she had three college offers and asked all three if that combination would be ok before releasing two felt a bit rubbish. Luckily all sorted in the end, but with the stress she didn't notice until she was on the bus home that they'd spelled her name wrong on her ID badge Grin.

Dancerr · 30/08/2023 17:04

A disorganised DS here too!!
I've has to give him a talking to and said he has to take responsibility now he's at college. I did far too much for him at school!

Piony · 30/08/2023 17:05

@SummerChilling thank you, that is very useful to know.

Yes but not until after all results enquiries are complete. It'll be December time.

I actually discovered today that I should have been getting emails this whole time except DS put his Dad down as main parent. 🙄So not so 'D' H who is even less organised than his son has been getting all these emails and somehow failed to notice or tell me.

After a number of emails, phone calls and password resets I now have control over parental stuff.

He also didn't get to do Biology in the end but he's happy with his 2nd choice so all's well that ends well. We've withdrawn from the other place he was holding. Bring on next week, this has felt like a long summer!
