DS1 has Art, English language, English literature and comp sci completely out of the way, yay!

He’s having a total break today, on a day trip with his dad.

New thread! Thanks, @SheilaFentiman! DS also taking a break for a few days. He only has 8 papers left, so he's 2/3 of the way through.

mumonthehill · 27/05/2023 16:37

Ds sitting in the sun with a Pimms, he may have done a bit of work but not sure!!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 27/05/2023 16:37

Thanks for the new thread. Ds is off doing his silver DofE expedition this weekend!

Circleoffifths · 27/05/2023 16:41

Thanks for the new thread. DD has done music practice today after a long lie-in. And is now doing Spanish and some Science revision. She is still muttering darkly about her raw marks in Art. Sigh.

tourdefrance · 27/05/2023 16:57

Thanks for new Fred!

PennywisePoundFoolish · 27/05/2023 17:03

Thanks for the new thread.

DS2 was buzzing after his English tuition last night, felt he'd learnt loads and was so smiley. I cannot believe the change, he's loathed English since Yr3 and only started with the tutor after Easter. He's got a school session next week, only for English. He's got 10 exams to go I think

SheilaFentiman · 27/05/2023 17:05

Aw, yay for your DS2, @PennywisePoundFoolish

That's fab for you DS @PennywisePoundFoolish . I'll always remember a lovely lad I tutored about 25 years ago. He just struggled and struggled until one day the penny just completely dropped and he shouted, 'Oh so that's what you want me to do! Oh I can do that!'

mrsnjw · 27/05/2023 17:17

My son has found the hardest exam so far has been PE. Thankfully not an a level choice. Don't get much out of him apart from it went ok.

Circleoffifths · 27/05/2023 17:21

Still 12 exams to go here. Am hoping the weather doesn’t get any hotter.

PhotoDad · 27/05/2023 17:22

Great to hear that the tutoring was effective, @PennywisePoundFoolish.

DS' least favourite exam so far was Computing Paper 2 last Thursday (I don't know which board, though!) Also not an A-level choice.

mrsnjw · 27/05/2023 17:24

They thought the second computing paper was a level 😳

DownTheRabbitHoIe · 27/05/2023 17:25

Checking in. DS seems quite chilled about everything. Only English Lit finished so far - the two weeks after half term are pretty full on and he's got an exam in the third week too.

mrsnjw · 27/05/2023 17:26

Yes week three and four is full on. I think they are practical exams in week five and higher maths.

jamimmi · 27/05/2023 17:27

Dd currently doing science. 6 exams the 1st week back , five the week after and one the final week so 12 to go 10 done. She had last night off and we are planning a.day out next week

jamimmi · 27/05/2023 17:29

Ment to add final week seems to be further maths and a friend also has Russian , but as she's a native speaker she's not to worried

Glwysen · 27/05/2023 17:29

DS had a shocker with the ocr computer science paper 2 but otherwise ok going into half term.

Thanks for the new thread. DD has done music practice today after a long lie-in. And is now doing Spanish and some Science revision. She is still muttering darkly about her raw marks in Art. Sigh.

Ds is also disappointed with his raw art grades. Looks to be a 5. Interestingly he had already told me it’s impossible to get a good grade. I didn’t believe him…

filchards · 27/05/2023 17:30

Big arguments here about whether this week is a holiday or a gap between exams to do revision. Given that he's done the bare minimum all his life, I think the latter. I appreciate its tough, he has ADHD etc etc but he's also bloody lazy and I'm cross.

PhotoDad · 27/05/2023 17:32

It's reassuring that others seem to have found Computing 2 tough! Fingers crossed for low grade boundaries.

Art is a really odd one at both GCSE and A-level, it is almost entirely about box-ticking. 🙁

Clymene · 27/05/2023 17:32

Thank you for the thread!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 27/05/2023 17:32

10 down, 14 to go here. Tentatively feeling they are going well.

spiderlight · 27/05/2023 17:33

Thank you for the new thread. DS is flopping about the house exhausted after last week but has made a token effort at some English.
