Hi all, I have recently been withdrawn from my private school and I am currently looking for a school or any solution to be able to finish my GSCE's in the summer of 2023. I really don’t know what to do as schools have been saying no due to different exam boards. I mostly do AQA for all my subjects except maths being edexcel. Is there anything I can do as I would like to go to a school in January 2023.
If exam boards are needed I will reply back with that information
Kind Regards all

You'll need to post on the secondary education board - this is for university academics. But why are your parents not sorting this out? There's clearly a back story here.

Why are you being withdrawn? No-one here is going to be able to find you a school - you haven't said where in the country you are - seems very odd to have parents interested enough to pay for private school yet as disinterested as you say they are....

I live in London apologies
I was close to expulsion and my parents thought it was best to leave before getting permanently expelled

Oh please, not every parent who sends their children to private school is some form of super parent. Mine couldn’t have been less interested in me if they tried. The longer hours, multiple extra curricular activities all meant less time with me around.

So on the off chance that this is genuine. Another private school is unlikely to want you if your behaviour is so bad that you've been expelled. So it's a case of looking at what the secondary state schools are near you, which have places (the LEA can help you) then enquiring about exam boards etc. But TBH you'd be better making a grovelling apology to your school and not getting expelled, it's a really rubbish time to move.

I have officially been withdrawn from the school by my parents
I am more than happy to going state school
This is absolutely genuine - I am in a very state at the moment
I just want to finish my GSCE's in the summer of 2023

Again on the off chance this is genuine either get a tutor, and see if your old school will agree to let you sit as an external candidate, or try a crammer or online school.

this is 100% genuine - if it was not I would ask for help
What else could I do?

What did you do to get so close to expulsion and piss off your parents so much?

viques · 16/12/2022 17:41

You might be better trying to find a tutorial college rather than a school. You are unlikely to find a local school ,or even a non local school, who are a) offering the subjects you need, and who b) would be willing or able to admit you for what is essentially one term.

LIZS · 16/12/2022 17:42

Agree with "crammars" and think i suggested it on a previous thread. Try googling for those offering one year gcse courses like www.davidgamecollege.com/193/gcse-courses-in-london . They more often are for pupils doing resits but might at least provide revision and an exam centre. Presumably your ex school will not to allow you back to sit the exams there? Otherwise online school or using tutors for the remainder of curriculum might be an option. Your parents need to have pretty deep pockets though.

viques · 16/12/2022 17:44

Another issue is that you will need to find an examination centre willing to register you as a late candidate and offer you facilities to sit your exams. Are any of your subjects practical, or requiring any course work to be assessed?

ExpulsoCorona · 16/12/2022 17:48

Which part of London?

isittheholidaysyet · 16/12/2022 18:01

You could sit exams as a home educated child would, as a 'private candidate'.

You study however you can, self study from books, online courses, or a tutor etc. Then just pay a School or exam centre to sit the exam.

You cannot (easily) do anything with course work. Many private candidates take International GCSEs (IGCSE) for this reason. Sciences and English language for instance, will probably have to be IGCSE. So you will have to change syllabus.

Art PE Music will be impossible at this point.

Your parents will need to find somewhere that will accept you as a private candidate. You could try "tutors and exams" or local private schools. It is getting very late to register now, you will have to be on it straightaway.
Exams will cost about £150 to £250. More for subjects like foreign languages that have speaking and listening tests.

Remember, you only need 5/6 GCSEs for college and university.

Also, all is not lost. You can take things more slowly and get qualifications at a college next year instead.
