Hi all, I have recently been withdrawn from my private school and I am currently looking for a school or any solution to be able to finish my GSCE's in the summer of 2023. I really don’t know what to do as schools have been saying no due to different exam boards. I mostly do AQA for all my subjects except maths being edexcel. Is there anything I can do as I would like to go to a school in January 2023.
If exam boards are needed I will reply back with that information
Kind Regards all

Absolutely not - just got officially excluded on Wednesday however it is not on my record
I have contacted my local borough , filling out forms for schools but no luck
I have been making efforts just my options are not as vast as before
Trust me I have been listening to everyones advice

So your parents withdrew you but you were officially excluded on Wednesday Confused

Get a tutor and find somewhere to sit exams as a private candidate. Or go to a school that sit with different exam boards and learn the differences. The LEA have to organise some form of education for you so get on at them about it

Depends what subjects you are taking, you may be allowed to drop to 5 or 6 GCSEs to give you time to learn the differences.

Its possible, but extremely unlikely, that there will be a school offering the options that you want on the same exam boards, with a space in each class

Bunnyannesummers · 16/12/2022 18:59

You’ll need to do maths, English lit and lang and science. For science you’ll probably have to swap to iGCSE.
your best option is self study and sit them as an external candidate at a local state school.
what other subjects were you doing?

lbnblbnb · 16/12/2022 19:17

Um, saying you have to learn everything by June - do I take it you have done little work, on top of the poor behaviour? Pretty much every year 11 student will have finished the content, or very nearly, and will now be revising, practice papers etc until the exams.

Probably, you need to:

  1. Accept you are going to have to work extremely hard to sort this out.
  2. Give up on the idea of finding a school that will match your subjects, exam board etc.
  3. Find somewhere that will accept you to sit your exams as an external candidate. Start with your previous school. Then ring round other schools, find out who you need to email. You will need a list of your subjects and the exam board for each subject. It may not be as simple as you think, for example, for English Language there is a Speaking and Listening assessment - have you done it? Are your previous school willing to provide the mark etc? It isn't straightforward if you are now going to be entered as a private candidate.
  4. Get yourself a decent list of what you need to revise for each subject. There is a website called Parents Guide to GCSEs that provides decent revision lists. It costs. Then go through the list with red, amber green highlighters - red for not a clue, amber for getting there and green for confident. Take each topic and try to turn it green. There are teacher YouTube channels for everything now. Crete revision cards, mind maps, whatever works for you.
  5. Past papers are available on the exam board websites.
  6. Use Tutorful or another website to find yourself a tutor for the subjects you feel less confident about. Obviously it will cost.

You need to take action instead of posting on here repeatedly. I don't come on Mumsnet that often, but I am pretty certain this is the third thread I have seen from you.

Your exclusion must have come after lots of warnings etc. it really is down to you now.
Hope this helps.

I am sorry your parents are leaving you to deal with this alone. You should contact your local County Council's school admissions department. Ask them to tell you which schools may have spaces in Year 11. Explain that some schools are rejecting you due to having studied different exam boards but that you need to be given a chance to take these exams, whether the exam board is different or not. You deserve a chance at finishing this stage of your education and your local Council has responsibility for providing a place for you to do that.

Keep ringing them, every day if you have to. Schools may be closed now but the council admissions team will still be working.

Go to 'appeal' for places at any school that you can get to comfortably.

Not all exam entries have been made yet, so don't worry about that.

Good luck. You're already showing initiative by posting here and deserve some good advice and help.

schoolissues22 · 17/12/2022 12:00

I unfortunately just have bad behaviour
Academically, my grades are 7s over above
So I revise quite a bit

I really do care about my education as I do study har but bad influences around me gets me into trouble ( nothing too bad but persistent bad behaviour leaving the school to ask me to leave formally )

I revise a lot as previously mentioned and I do quite well academically
I am just quite ignorant when making mistakes and it has costed me a ticket out of private school
However, I have been revising hard over the last couple months
Thanks a lot for your comment as I have been looking at ways to improve my situation, such as looking at schools ( online aswell ), or just looking how to sit my exams in June
I have done my English Speaking Assessment and have had that mark back, however, I have done 40% of my drama GSCE ( exam board being Eduquas ), and the remaining part is group work, do I have to drop the subject now?

OP posts:

“I have done 40%of my drama …. The remaining part is group work”

Do try to keep your stories straight, it makes your posts more believable, when I asked you about practical subjects yesterday you said all your outstanding exams were written papers!

And also learn to accept responsibility for your behaviour, “bad influences around me get me into trouble” that only happens if that is what you choose to happen.

lbnblbnb · 17/12/2022 12:17

@schoolissues22 I imagine you will have to drop Drama - I can't see how that can be sorted. There are four possible exam boards for every subject (more if you count CIE), and within each subject there are options (so for Drama, choice of text/topic). So finding a school that matches your previous exam boards etc is going to be impossible, the group work issue is in addition to that.

Someone upthread said the admissions for your local council have to arrange a school place - true, but they can't magic up a school that exactly matches what you have been doing.

I don’t mind dropping Drama at this point
I contacted the council for my borough asking for a school - but I think I have to study myself or do online schooling

I thought you were meaning mocks in which all exams were written

Agree that you will have to study yourself - have you got your stuff organised? A pile for each subject, get every text, revision guide, exercise book and organise it. Get your revision lists for each subject sorted. Rate each unit for every GCSE by how confident you are, and start chipping away at it.
Glad to hear you have contacted the council - maybe they can help sort you taking the exams as an external candidate.
You can try calling the council on Monday, but lots of people work term time even in the education department. So don't be surprised if you can't get answers straight away.
I do wish you luck but you have to take responsibility now and get going.

I have plenty or notes and materials to revise off - that should not be an issue
However, I done have to learn quite a bit myself
I am fine with being an external candidate but I think home schooling might be a better option as I am close to arranging myself to complete my GSCES with an online school, learning the rest of my course

I have a space at a school for sixth form
A conditional offer in which I need 6 6's and 7's in the subjects I want to do at A-Levels
This should not be an issue
