How did your DD find the exam? DD found it very hard for both papers. Is it true that they only invite about 200 ppl back for the interview round?

Thanks School23 - great your DD had a good interview; my DD was caught out by having to do puzzles on the spot... maybe this is how they differentiate the types of girls who thrive at NLCS

School23 · 30/01/2023 16:24

@Toolongawait23 my daughter said she did puzzles with teacher. I think she did most of puzzle 1 properly and second puzzle did wrong but then teacher helped her. But she said interview was fun and she liked it.

Hermoine2 · 06/02/2023 15:45

Anyone else finding this wait unnerving?

Toolongawait23 · 06/02/2023 19:11

Really unnerving - really overthinking things whereas there is no point to it! We are anticipating all results on the 10th, so there are no early school results to give me any confidence either

PPLs · 06/02/2023 21:30

Hang on in there. I remember it as such a stressful time. Wishing you all the very best.

Herewegoagain78 · 06/02/2023 23:11

How many schools did you guys apply for? I totally sympathise with the wait being excruciating but that Friday was a really exciting day. I remember the emails all arriving within 20 minutes of each other, I didn’t know what to do with myself!
Habs arrived at 9.40 and NLCS at 9.46!

Toolongawait23 · 07/02/2023 08:26

We applied to 5 and all are expected on the same day! Its great that they all come in the morning... Is there a lot of overlap in offers between Habs and NLCS? And does the NLCS waitlist move?

Herewegoagain78 · 07/02/2023 09:20

I can only speak from anecdotal experience, but yes to both. Someone got an offer from NLCS one week before school started (probably not what you want to hear and very rare presumably)!
Hang in there, just a couple of more days.
which other schools did you try?

Herewegoagain78 · 09/02/2023 20:19

I just wanted to say good luck tomorrow, I hope you all get good news.

stormydaisy · 10/02/2023 10:26

Hi everyone, we did not get an offer from NLCS and I wonder if we can register on a waiting list. I know some schools are having three kind of letters: offer/waiting list/rejection. Does anyone if this is the case for NLCS as well? Thank you for any reply on this matter.

adhw · 10/02/2023 10:30

hiya hope good news for everyone.. @PreplexJ - what is your first choice

PreplexJ · 10/02/2023 10:47

@adhw not sure yet I will consult my DD during half term.
Congrats to your DD too.

@PreplexJ Did you get an offer from CLSG if you had applied and is it first come first serve? I am yet to read all the documents that has come through..

PPLs · 10/02/2023 11:45

Hello. NLCS will have sent an offer and a waitlist email and an outcome letter. I hope you all receive some good news today, it’s very stressful

Hermoine2 · 10/02/2023 12:19

Congratulations to everyone who received good news today. Unfortunately, we didnt get an offer. Does anyone know the numbers of over offers schools make? I presume the waiting list moves only after the over offers have been exhausted and there are still places available. My DD is on the waitlist and i am trying to manage my own expectations on her chances.

fourplus · 08/05/2023 23:16

Hi folks, can you please suggest which places are good to prepare for NLCS 11+ exams? Many thanks in advance.

Toolongawait24 · 10/05/2023 09:53

Our prep school prepared well for this exam. Going through past papers is good as their format doesn’t change much.

Saskia11 · 13/10/2023 09:28

Hi, what type of puzzles were they please? Thanks any tips for exam too- what were the English questions? Thanks

Hi, what type of puzzles were they please? Thanks any tips for exam too- what were the English questions? Thanks

First round is English and Maths, standard private school open paper. English is comprehension and CW. Maths is a bit time pressure and last 1-2 questions some section is a bit hard, but can be done, write down some steps could be useful. Practice with past paper of the school or other similar private school will help.

Interview has a few maths puzzle questions similar to the first round maths but you need to explain in front of the teacher, DD found it not as hard as paper. The interviewer will give you hints if you are stuck.

Good luck.

Last year DD found the English paper easy - the previous NLCS paper examples were sufficient practice, The Maths paper was tougher than expected, but still managable. Again past papers are very helpful - they are representative. Both CLSG and NLCS maths papers were similar level and practicing the past papers is very helpful - you can go back to the old consortium papers to practice as well.
DD had maths puzzles which she got stuck on but the interviewer helped. DD got the offer but we went to a different school in the end.

Atlantic123 · 13/10/2023 14:12

Hi focus on maths and English papers for now in particular the harder school exam papers. Habs boys, city of London , Dulwich college. With maths show all working. With the English try to keep to time but if you can’t finish it’s ok. My daughter didn’t finish the English paper but got a straight offer. Interview is maths problems and a text to read aloud and answer questions on
