How did your DD find the exam? DD found it very hard for both papers. Is it true that they only invite about 200 ppl back for the interview round?

It's myth. They do not interview parents (unless it's a new thing this year). Whilst DD was having her interview, parents were invited in groups of 6-8 to have a meeting with a member of SLT to ask questions. We were not asked any questions.

I checked the email again, it explicitly invite me and my DD to the interview I think this is a real thing.

I can only confirm what happened during my DD's interview.

tamu1234 · 16/01/2023 21:35

Yes I think they mentioned it during the open day as well, so perhaps it is a new thing started now.

PreplexJ · 16/01/2023 22:24

@Braveheart35 thank you

We had the parents “ interview” (or meeting/conversation) with the deputy head as well as the group audience with the head in 2020 and 2021. It’s not a myth (and kind of rude to imply that it is given the experience of others). It’s exactly as @PPLs described.

Thanks everyone

Heard from existing parent yesterday there are total 250 girls invited to 2nd round NLCS interview.

250, wow

do you know how many applied this year?

SJT98 · 18/01/2023 16:38

450-500

SJT98 · 18/01/2023 16:39

450-500

PPLs · 18/01/2023 18:47

Hello. Existing parents aren’t told of the numbers applying or coming in for interview. To be fair, if I emailed in and asked either question, I doubt very much we would be told. 450 - 500 would be quiet a low number too.

Herewegoagain78 · 18/01/2023 18:56

That’s the number I was given last year, I suspect it is a typical number rather than exact.

Herewegoagain78 · 18/01/2023 18:58

In case this is useful, the current year 8 has 6 forms as a result of over-offering, whereas the current year 7 has gone back to the traditional 5 forms year group. I suspect being the Covid year played a part in not quite getting the numbers right.

I heard habs do interview parents, would like to hear some past experience thank you.

We had one of those. Honestly it was all a bit awkward.

They took my child off for a separate interview and we sat in someone's office (deputy head?) making random conversation without working out the point of it.

That’s exactly it. Honestly, I think the whole purpose of it is to work out whether you will accept the offer, should they make you one. I was glad to have prepared an answer (given we already had a child at NLCS).

The parent I knew was told this information from adminssion office directly on Monday - 250 ppl invited to interview and 60-70 places available.

Herewegoagain78 · 18/01/2023 19:26

There is no reason to believe that wouldn’t be true. They are also very typical numbers which would make sense as they wouldn’t change hugely from year to year. We were given numbers publicly at one of the open days, though at the time I assumed they were typical rather than exact as it was too early to know (before the registration period ended).

PPLs · 18/01/2023 20:32

Okay. I understand. I seemed to think the figures were all a lot higher when my daughter sat at various schools. Given the high numbers being called back, sounds like they will dismiss about 150 children. My daughter is helping with the parents coming in and later tours, she might be told the numbers.

PreplexJ · 18/01/2023 20:35

@PPLs I think NLCS will give more than 100 offers + waiting list. Given the same pool of students will apply for SPGS Habs CLSG or SHHS

OP posts:
PPLs · 18/01/2023 20:42

Yes. They will over offer, most NLCS children I know received multiple offers, as do other students at other school. I seem to think 600 sat when my daughter did. 190 asked back.
if this year parents have been told 250 for interview plus 100 offers, it’s less than half.

PreplexJ · 18/01/2023 21:07

Perhaps they will even offer more based on previous situations that is why more interviews

How did DCs find the NLCS interviews this year? We thought it focussed a lot on personal, an effort to know the DC, which was refreshing ... not so much time on puzzle and no pic - is that good or bad?

Toolongawait23 · 30/01/2023 14:25

Any feedback on the NLCS interviews? My DD found it tricky and needed some support to complete the puzzles... does that reflect badly? It was pleasant interview but the she found the puzzles tough!

NWelevenplusmon · 30/01/2023 14:31

I have to say the Habs process was very refreshing - it is like they wanted to know about the child and the family. Is there a lot of parent participation they welcome? It seemed like they get very involved in the students development at an individual level

School23 · 30/01/2023 16:06

@Toolongawait23 For NLCS - IT was only academic for my daughter, they hardly asked any other questions. But my daughter loved that interview.

@NWelevenplusmon for habs, I found questions tricky (parents interview)... I am not sure if they offer based on parents interview + kids interview.
