I wonder why RS was so hard? DD doesn’t take that but have a year 9 who has picked it as one of her options.

DD had a day off today to revise chemistry but she has 7 exams after half term so not sure how she’s going to fit all that in. I’m worried apathy will set in.

She was really disappointed with Eng Lit. Was banking on a couple of good characters of AIC to come up which she knew she could ‘ace’ but a really weak character came up. She was also miffed that this character was in the 2019 paper which was the last proper gcse so she can’t believe they recycled that again!

@Rollergirl11 Hope your daughter is feeling ok. Us girls do have it tough!

I'm not sure how the AQA AIC character was 'weak' in terms of exam answers! Eric was in named in the 2019 paper, but the wording of this year's question was geared towards a clear thesis and structure, with lots to talk about!

Chakraleaf · 26/05/2022 21:34

My DD is also having a horrid heavy cycle and said she was so uncomfortable and the RS paper was horrid so she is not in a good mood.

I have a son doing Alevels this week and a daughter doing gcses. Also 2 younger kids. It's crap at home right now.

NameInUseAlreadyAgain · 26/05/2022 22:11

We are éduquas RS and it was impossible I’m told by DS.

he revised but said questions obscure

NameInUseAlreadyAgain · 26/05/2022 22:13

DS had chemistry and final computing papers tomorrow

he’s done no chemistry revision at all. Says can’t do it so what’s the point. I think I did the same with physics …!

Bellini12 · 26/05/2022 22:50

@Indiplay oh just going on what DD said. I think she was just disappointed that the characters which she confidently knew she could write loads about didn’t come up. Also miffed that their English teacher hasn’t really supported them (but that’s another story).

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 27/05/2022 06:59

Good luck everyone for today. Our hardest so far. DC currently hiding in bed pretending it's not happening.

Rollergirl11 · 27/05/2022 07:19

Good luck everyone for Chemistry. DD going in for 7.30. All done by 11.00.

MyOtherProfile · 27/05/2022 07:42

So far so good but today is the first dreaded subject. Here's hoping for a smooth morning.

MrsScrubbingbrush · 27/05/2022 07:44

Good luck to everyone sitting the Chemistry paper today. Let's hope they've been kind.

MyOtherProfile · 27/05/2022 07:48

DS just asked if we can watch Macbeth together over half term. I've seen it at the theatre a couple of times but no film versions. Can anyone recommend a version to watch?

Akite · 27/05/2022 07:53

Dd has had a few last minute chemistry tutor sessions which have massively boosted her confidence and filled in gaps so fingers crossed it's a good paper today. She doesn't need it but is doing biology a level so a good grounding in chemistry is helpful.
School got in touch yesterday about the fact she's not attending the revision lessons but I think we will continue as we are, hardly anyone is staying in.

Silkierabbit · 27/05/2022 08:09

DD just left and had a migraine last night but took meds and meh today but manageable so gone in for chemistry and computing. Will be glad to get to half term.

LouisCatorze · 27/05/2022 08:28

@Silkierabbit how is your chemo going? Hope you're managing to get a lot of rest? Sorry to hear that your DD had a migraine. Hope she's okay today.

DD went to bed at 9pm last night and up at 6am (unheard of, even with needing to leave by 7.15am) to do some last minute revision. She went through a couple of the experiments. Told her to do a bit of Bitesize on the bus. Even if she only picks up a few additional facts, it could earn her a couple of extra points in the exam. Every point counts for those who aren't naturally inclined towards the sciences!

Good luck to all DC sitting exams today. Have to say that chemistry and computer science combo sounds an absolute killer. Just as well half-term marks a pause in the exam cycle.

zighead · 27/05/2022 08:54

My DS was obviously worried for chemistry today that he was actually reading his revision guide on the way to school. This is unheard of for him. He did spend nearly 3 hours gaming last night thoughConfused
Hope all the DS and DD do well today.

Chakraleaf · 27/05/2022 08:57

Ouch chemistry and computing!

LouisCatorze · 27/05/2022 09:07

@zighead I love teen priorities. DD got home and started watching one of the Star Wars films Hmm

I am beginning to feel like a total killjoy revision Dementor. I've advised her to take a couple of days off revising during half-term, in the hope that the break will refresh her and give her renewed focus. Just hope it doesn't backfire.

MirandaWest · 27/05/2022 09:12

DD just has Chemistry today and they are then "allowed" study leave. She's going into town with some friends :)

DS has his first A Level today. I am more nervous for him than DD right now!

legosnowqueen · 27/05/2022 09:24

@MirandaWest I can only imagine the stress levels of those with GCSE & A levels going on.

DS seems reasonably confident about Chemistry. He has had some science tuition as although he is doing the 3 separate sciences, he finds them hard. She has acted as a sounding board for him to ask for support on topics that he's not quite got in class especially having missed 6 weeks in the autumn term due to covid so hope this has paid off...

PugInTheHouse · 27/05/2022 09:41

DS had band rehearsal and cricket training last night, I told him it would be good to get put, he said he revised afterwards showing that he actually did. It is their last proper day at school today, DS only told me yesterday, i thought they were in till weds after half term. They are all going out tonight so I've told him to take it easy as there is plenty of time to celebrate once the exams are actually over.

The Michael Fassbender/Marion Cottilard is good, it isn't absolutely true to the text and there are some interesting ideas taken way further than implied by the text (e.g. loss of a child) but as a film it is a good watch. I also like the BBC adaptations they did years ago where they are modern settings but keep the language - James McAvoy was in Macbeth (I think they were called Shakespeare Retold if you can find them).

ZandathePanda · 27/05/2022 10:09

The one that sticks most true to the play is a really old black and white one broadcast on tv with Judi Dench and Ian McKellen. We watched it in 20 min chunks with the text book and notes and my Dd would explain what’s going on to me!

legosnowqueen · 27/05/2022 10:41

Aah DS is back early again, from Chemistry...he assured me he turned the paper over (ref previous update on Business exam when he missed a question on the back) & read through end to end 5 times, making corrections/additions up to the 4th read through...he then had 15 minutes to spare...

Hope everyone has a balanced half term 😀

CornishGem1975 · 27/05/2022 10:41

DD said chemistry was awful and the worst exam she's done, she thinks she's done really badly.

zighead · 27/05/2022 11:18

How is DS home so early @legosnowqueen ? Was it not a two hour exam?
My DS has just text to say chemistry was really good. Sorry to hear that your DD found her paper awful @CornishGem1975
And yes @LouisCatorze what is going through their brains when they actively choose to not revise!?
