Yes sorry Wednesday. We have Animal Farm and A Christmas Carol.

Lightsabre · 23/05/2022 18:40

Edexcel is Shakespeare Macbeth and An Inspector Calls for Ds on Weds. Its his weakest subject and he doesn't seem to have revised as much as he has for his other subjects. Luckily he has tomorrow off to cram!

Week after half term looks tough.

Naem · 23/05/2022 18:50

Stradbroke · 23/05/2022 17:45

AQA is not Macbeth (or whatever Shkaespeare they are doing) tomorrow is it?

Not for AQA. It is poetry on Wednesday for us as well as Inspector Calls, as our school chose to drop Jekyll & Mr Hyde rather than the poetry. DD was pleased about that, she likes the poetry much more than Jekyll & Hyde

pinkroseapp · 23/05/2022 19:26

My son’s igcse English has 4 exams (language and Literature), but no course work.

Naem · 23/05/2022 19:34

pinkroseapp · 23/05/2022 19:26

My son’s igcse English has 4 exams (language and Literature), but no course work.

That is true of all the regular GCSEs now, certainly since 2016 when the new GCSEs came in.

Rollergirl11 · 23/05/2022 19:43

DD’s English on Wednesday is the same as @Naem , she’s doing An Inspector Calls and Anthology Poetry. They dropped Frankenstein.

CornishGem1975 · 23/05/2022 20:31

Our school dropped the poetry anthology. DD could not have been happier!

MirandaWest · 23/05/2022 20:39

DD is doing Inspector Calls and a Christmas Carol - they dropped the Poetry Anthology.

NameInUseAlreadyAgain · 23/05/2022 21:26

We’ve go Jekkyl and Hyde and power and conflict poetry Wednesday. He knows little

food science was 50% coursework this year so he’s got a 7 for that part which takes pressure off

he revises for the exams as they come. We’ve parked food science until the end as it’s one of last exams and he has 5 days to revise for it

this week is tough but by Friday that’s 10 done and 12 to go

PugInTheHouse · 23/05/2022 21:51

DS is doing Edexcel I think on Weds, he is donig Inspector Calls, Christmas Carol and Macbeth, I am not sure how it works with the 2 papers though?

He did Cambridge English Language which is 50% coursework, the exam was early May so it's nice to get that out of the way. The school have never done that syllabus before, not sure why they change but it was a recent change.

StColumbofNavron · 23/05/2022 21:59

DS1 said that each English class voted on what to drop so his clash dropped poetry so he is doing An Inspector Calls and A Christmas Carol. We have Romeo & Juliet as Shakespeare which I find baffling as I did that is Y8 and Macbeth for GCSE, but his school do Macbeth in Y7.

My DS is doing a mix of GCSEs and iGCSEs but mostly iGCSEs. None of them have coursework however. Honestly didn't think that existed any more.
For his English lit, they did 1984 and poetry. It was the Shakespeare (Othello) they dropped, probably because that was what they studied back in year 10.

aramox1 · 24/05/2022 04:54

Day off here then inspector, Frankenstein tomorrow. And media. Which has had little revision so far... ds is cramming for each exam, and finding it's getting boring. He's doing both geog and history , both really content heavy- all the history is after half term. Running rapidly out of food.

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 24/05/2022 07:32

aramox1 - we're the same re food. How much can one teenager eat in a day ....

Bellini12 · 24/05/2022 09:52

DD is doing french listening/reading today then PE. Anyone else? Will be cramming for English lit later as has had more pressing exams to revise for first.

g1c2d3 · 24/05/2022 10:01

Same here - DS was more worried about the English Literature tomorrow than the French today because he hasn’t revised enough for it. Also he has an orthodontist appointment this afternoon so that reduces his available time. I hope the braces do not cause him too much discomfort in the next three days.

MrsPnut · 24/05/2022 10:12

DD’s English class has been taught along with another class since January by 1 teacher except they were doing different books and one group kept poetry and the other ditched it. The teacher is an absolute superstar and DD said she has learnt loads from her. She has Dr Jekyll and An Inspector Calls tomorrow as well as English revision this afternoon to go over quotes from the books.
French listening and reading this morning and RS Thursday with Chemistry on Friday and also the leavers assembly.

QueenMabby · 24/05/2022 11:31

It's so strange with all the different boards!
DS's coursework was An Inspector Calls and MacBeth. He's had a great teacher the last two years and he's come on really well.

Day "off" today but Eng lit practice papers and if I can persuade him some Spanish too.

Fizbosshoes · 24/05/2022 11:31

Just asked via WhatsApp how DD got on in French. Listening was "shit" and reading was "not that bad" Confused
And French is one of her preferred subjects

Fizbosshoes · 24/05/2022 11:33

We've got AQA English tomorrow
They've been studying macbeth, A Christmas Carol and Animal farm...but is it poerty tomorrow?

Dancingbea · 24/05/2022 11:53

It’s one paper on poetry and then one paper on whichever novel they have done. Back to back but not sure which is first? Macbeth is after half term with the unseen poetry in the same paper.

StColumbofNavron · 24/05/2022 11:57

@Fizbosshoes if it is any consolation listening is always the trickiest (double language GCSE then double A level). Once you have heard it the number of times allowed that is it. Whereas with reading, at least the text is there for the duration.

OP posts:
Fizbosshoes · 24/05/2022 12:05

She didn't find the listening too bad in mocks but I agree from my own gcses that I think listening was the hardest of all 4 elements. Her revision was watching a TV series in French with subtitles...

TattiePants · 24/05/2022 12:15

@Fizbosshoes if it's AQA then it will be ACC and Animal Farm tomorrow as your school will have dropped poetry anthology. It's then Macbeth and unseen poetry after half term.

Just reading that AQA English Lit will be sat as two separate papers tomorrow. DS is the only one (to my knowledge) sitting A Christmas Carol, the rest are studying anthology so I'll have to drum it into him tonight to make sure he's given the right paper.

Rollergirl11 · 24/05/2022 12:20

DD thinks it’s better that they are 2 separate papers as then it takes away the pressure of making sure you give yourself enough time for each section.
