Are we all feeling ready for another week of exams? I feel tired of them already and there’s rather a lot left to go (including DSs A levels starting this week)

Nard75 · 22/05/2022 21:19

@MirandaWest DS1 also starts A levels on Wednesday plus another 5 exams for DS2 this week.

Rollergirl11 · 22/05/2022 21:45

DD has 5 this week again starting with Geography tomorrow.

Good luck for those with DC doing A levels this coming week. That’ll be me in 2 years time. Definitely not looking forward to that!

MirandaWest · 22/05/2022 22:06

Geography here tomorrow as well. Then English Literature, Spanish, RE and Chemistry to end the week.

I feel that having the double whammy of GCSEs and A Levels is a little unfair with not having had GCSEs two years ago - I am a first timer in some ways!

13lucky · 22/05/2022 22:36

Lots on Twitter about the supposed leak

Rollergirl11 · 22/05/2022 22:46

@MirandaWest DD has the exact same exams this week as your DD. At least they have a day without any on Tuesday.

Nard75 · 23/05/2022 05:53

Good luck to everyone for this week hope it all goes well 🤞🏽

LouisCatorze · 23/05/2022 07:02

Rollergirl11 @MirandaWest ditto for DD too.

Good luck to all DC with their exams this week. At least they have half-term ahead.

StColumbofNavron · 23/05/2022 07:32

Good luck everyone. We have Eng Lit, Spanish and Chemistry which I think is an ok week for DS1.

We also failed in our family planning and will have GCSEs, A Levels and Options all happening at the same time in 2 years.

There hasn’t been much revision this weekend, mostly football related. He now has exam leave so today and tomorrow to do some work. I suspect we’ll be back to the Spanish focus.

Good luck everyone! My ds is off to his geography exam now. He is doing IGCSEs and only has geography and Chemistry on Friday for this week. He has already finished all the English and history exams so far.

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 23/05/2022 07:48

We haven't even started history here yet. Those 3 exams are after half term and the amount of revision seems utterly disproportionate to the importance of the subject (for us - DC is never going to do it for A level). We've got 2 days 'off' now and start again with English Literature on Wednesday.

Silkierabbit · 23/05/2022 07:53

5 exams this week for DD but none today, 2 on Friday. Day playing with kitten today and I do my weekly chemo today, urgh. Then 15 more after half term.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 23/05/2022 08:22

DS has four exams this week, starting this morning with Geography. It really wasn't helpful when last night just before bed he told me "I don't think I've done enough Geography revision" - that will be because he got bored and moved on to Chemistry! Fingers crossed it will go ok, he doesn't want to continue with it so I guess it doesn't matter as much as Chemistry (which he does want to do for A level). Everything went "well" or at least "ok" last week so I hope if it is a bit of a disaster it doesn't throw him.

French tomorrow and English Lit on Wednesday which is a weakness. I hadn't realised until this week that they are doing Wednesday's lit paper as two separate papers (so 50 mins for each), they have a 15 min break in between (presumably to allow the people with extra time to finish). I think he's slightly stronger on Christmas Carol which is the second one so at least it will force him to do Lord of the Flies (which he really hates) first for the full amount of time.

All the best for your chemo @Silkierabbit and all the best for those with A levels and GCSEs going on at the same time - hope it's not too stressful!

pinkroseapp · 23/05/2022 09:05

I don’t know how much difference between IGCSEs and GCSEs. DS is doing IGCSEs, he has two exams for each of the subjects. His first exam started on the 5th of May (history). He has Chemistry on Friday and then follow with German writing, maths paper 2, Geography paper 2, physics, biology and chemistry paper 2 after the half term. Seems not too much left to do.

zighead · 23/05/2022 09:08

Good luck to all for this coming week! It must be very nerve wracking for the A-level students with no proper exam experience.

Nothing here until Thursday when he has his least favourite subject Spanish. Then Chemistry on Friday.

I would actually prefer that they didn't have a week off as it feels like it's dragging already.

Hope your chemo goes okay @Silkierabbit

Akite · 23/05/2022 09:16

Sigh, my dd has text me in a panic that she forgot her calculator for Geography- I don't know if they even need it for geography but I'm going to spend the next few hours worrying about that!
Same exams as a few others this week, day off tomorrow though. She is supposed to be having lessons all the times she's not in exams but that has fallen by the wayside already and she's just coming home after morning exams.

Rollergirl11 · 23/05/2022 09:23

@akite the invigilators usually have spares to give out so she should be fine!

CornishGem1975 · 23/05/2022 09:39

We've got lessons too @Akite but DD said lots were coming home last week. School sent out a very stern email mid week saying attendance at school was still compulsory!

StColumbofNavron · 23/05/2022 09:47

Only last week was compulsory for us. Teachers are available in their rooms at timetable times if students want to go in to revise or want teacher input, so self directed revision really. It might give DS1 some direction today but he seems to be staying home.

OP posts:
zighead · 23/05/2022 10:24

@Akite My DS did the same last week and forgot his calculator for biology. He sorted one in the end but I spent the whole day anxious about it. I'm sure DD will be given a spare as presumably it happens all the time.

QueenMabby · 23/05/2022 10:33

Geog also for ds today. Eng lit on Wednesday, Spanish Thursday and Chem on Friday.

Ds is doing a mix of GCSEs and iGcses. Chem is an iGCSE I think.

Like others not much revision happened over the weekend - he keeps saying he can do it on his day off on Tuesday. Looks like he's going to be VERY busy tomorrow!

Bellini12 · 23/05/2022 10:52

Does anyone else feel like the exam timetable hasn’t been very kind to their DC?

DD has 4 this week - Geog today, double french and PE on Tuesday (the tricky paper and she wants to take it A level so lots of pressure) then Eng Lit on Wed and a day off to study chemistry.

French she has barely looked at as no time.

She barely left the house this weekend. I am annoyed that she will literally be revising Eng lit the night before when everyone else has had days. The price she pays for not doing creative subjects I guess.

Then after half term she has 7 - ALL IN A ROW!

Here was me thinking these exams were meant to be spaced out?! Am just feeling so cross for her as she’s exhausted already.

CornishGem1975 · 23/05/2022 10:59

DD has just texted and said Geography was "....interesting," she said she also did use many case studies as she struggled to remember them (despite going over them all weekend!). She's only aiming for a 5 though so should all be good - she's happier with P2 and P3 so thinks she'll pick up marks then.

I guess it depends on the combo of subjects @Bellini12 DD has four this week. Nothing now until Wednesday but she has two to prepare for.

What are iGCSEs? I've never even heard of them! So I assume our school doesn't do them.

CornishGem1975 · 23/05/2022 11:00

*didn't use

Rollergirl11 · 23/05/2022 11:12

@Bellini12 as Cornish says I guess it’s just down to the timetabling of the different subjects. DD has 5 this week with her day off being tomorrow (although still in school and expected to go to normal lessons) and then everything crammed in to the last part of the week. So she’ll have less time ahead of her Chemistry exam. Can your DD do a bit of English lit revision each night rather than doing all the night before?
