GCSE results day 2021 support thread

HappySonHappyMum · 02/08/2021 16:22

10 days to go until results day. Thought I'd start a new thread for parents who are getting the heebie jeebies and are probably more stressed than their DCs. I personally am trying not to mention it AT ALL, so it would be really good to have a thread where I can worry along with everyone else!

Waiting for my maths resit results Sad so nerve-wrecking but that’s life

DinkyDaisy · 12/08/2021 06:19

I am awake too early!
16 year old and rest of house asleep. He goes in for his results at 9.30am ish. They all have appointments. I think he will go in early but may not be allowed in...some of his friends have 8.30 appointments!
He worked hard and should be ok but who knows for sure until paper in his hand.
So many schools did things differently. He has friends at other schools who seemed to do hardly any assessments whereas his school did loads. We shall see!
It is going to be a long morning!

LynetteScavo · 12/08/2021 06:34

I'm also awake too early. I have no idea what today will bring.

I'm super proud of DD - she's severely dyslexic and started secondary school hardly able to read and write. Her targets are all ow, but she's actually a very bright cookie and I have everything crossed for some decent grades. She's particularly worried about English, but I'm sure she'll be fine. Blimey, this is nerve-racking! Grin

ihearttc · 12/08/2021 06:39

I’m awake too!
I was feeling surprisingly ok about everything until last night and then I started to worry. DS is working today and DS2 is on a football course 30 miles away so it’s going to be a mad scramble to find out before I we have to leave.

Toobuktim · 12/08/2021 06:51

That’s me awake too, the rest of the house is quiet. Email around 8.30am for DS, then he’s to confirm 6th Form place by 12.30pm…..can’t believe we’re here finally.

ineedaholidaynow · 12/08/2021 06:53

I’m awake too! DS fast asleep

loofah2 · 12/08/2021 06:54

Awake too. Woke up with a dream that we received somebody else's results and were trying to give them back without looking at them.

Houseparty · 12/08/2021 06:58

I've been awake since 4.30! Even the dog looks fed up.

Butternutsqoosh · 12/08/2021 07:01

I didn't sleep well at all! Hope my DTDs slept better, couldn't stop thinking/dreaming about this morning. Hoping they get in and grab their results quickly as I have to be at work shortly afterwards!

Themeparklover · 12/08/2021 07:03

Just been on facetime with my 16 year old sister who is awaiting her results today, unfortunately she has covid and another member of the family is collecting for her just hoping she has gotten good and fair grades I am across the country she is up north I'm down south

HappySonHappyMum · 12/08/2021 07:05

Wishing everyone of our DCs the best of luck today!

My son seems incredibly relaxed about it all. His last parents' evening was extremely positive but who knows what he'll get after all that online learning and masses of shorter tests.

SycamoreGap · 12/08/2021 07:20

Just found this thread. Getting more nervous by the minute. We think DS will do well, but maths teaching and feedback has been a bit weak and he’s worried that he could be a 6 - most university courses he wants to do require a minimum 7 plus A-level maths, so a complete re-think may be needed today.

Sweetpea84 · 12/08/2021 07:31

Just found you. DD collecting results at 9. Booked enrolment slot at Westminster College for Friday, hopefully all will be ok! After getting results she will have to decided if she’s staying at six form or which of the 3 colleges who have given her a place she will attend she really doesn’t know 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️ Not helped by the fact she hasn’t been able to look around.

aleC4 · 12/08/2021 07:33

I've been waking up on and off all night, not sure about ds.
His school said results from 8.30 so I'm unsure how long we'll have to wait.
He's been very cool about the whole thing until last night when he started to feel a bit nervous.

TheShriekingCrow · 12/08/2021 07:33

I’ve barely slept! Ds is up now, getting ready to go in for 8.30.

KateTheEighth · 12/08/2021 07:34

I've been awake for ages too

DS's results available online in 57 minutes....

He asked me to wake him at 8.25. Wish I was as laid back as him!

AChickenCalledDaal · 12/08/2021 07:47

drininmecrazy I'm with you on the sibling issue. DD1 got a full set of grade 9s three years ago. DD2 will have excelled herself if they are all grade 4s upwards. But I don't know if she will ever accept that I do understand that.

greenlynx · 12/08/2021 07:50

Just found this thread, wishing everyone best of luck!
DD has additional needs so it’s tricky time at school. We are just proud of her and any results will do but I’m still very nervous.
Can I ask what the etiquette is?
Does she open the results straight away or bring it home and open then? She’s really stressed about this sort of things. I came from different system so can’t advise her.

NotDonna · 12/08/2021 07:53

We’ve been that the results will not be given out until 10am due to Cambridge exam board delaying Biology result. Seems odd when they had no marking to do.

Unescorted · 12/08/2021 07:55

10 o'clock school pick up here. The school did a topic, revised a topic and tested / assessed a topic before moving to the next one. He has a really good short term memory so will have benefited from the TAGs. I am still chewing my nails to the quick.

Good luck everyone - it has been a really hard year and they deserve the grades, despite the crap being sprouted about grade inflation. None of them were given the option to coast and cram so you would expect better grades.

For all the teachers reading this - thank you so much for the work, the hand holding, guidance and general support you have put in. Without your commitment the kids coming through last year and this would have been a lost generation, thrown under a bus of political expediency. I am so grateful that I am here chewing my nails and knowing my DS will have something meaningful to show for the last 2 years.

NotDonna · 12/08/2021 07:56

@greenlynx are her school not emailing them out first? If not, it’s entirely up to her. Some kids like to open them with their friends others prefer privacy. Some want the school’s support if they’re not as expected (to help find alternative 6th form college etc). Are you going with her?

Hellohah · 12/08/2021 07:56

@Greenlynx she can do what she feels comfortable with. I'm taking DS and one of his friends, but will be meeting his other friends at school and they will probably open together.

Unescorted · 12/08/2021 08:01

@drivinmecrazy

Joining in anticipation of the results. My DD2 is still only 15 and two weeks away from her 16th birthday. She has an academically very able sister so we have to be very cautious about managing expectations and not comparing. We'll be overjoyed at a mixed bag of between 4's & 6's. Fingers crossed for all the kids, we're hoping for the best and planning for the worst and praying it'll be somewhere in between. I know these results are not hugely important in the scheme of things but to the kids they are. Just looking forward to tomorrow being over and planning for the next step, wherever that may take us. ThanksWine
Similar here - although DS will most likely get better grades DD got into Oxf because she is doing a BFA & only needed to be good at one subject. I bet that DS will be asked several times today if he is following his sister.... spoiler alert he will not get 9's across the board so won't be going to Oxf.

Perfectly put. Good luck everyone!

Typical DS humour, came down singing Pink Floyd "We don't need no education" Grin. Says he's feeling a bit nervous but OK.

Taking him for a breakfast baguette shortly to set him up for the morning before taking him in.
