I watched with interest the information and support on this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/4177427-PART-3-SW-London-Girls-Indies-11-Results-Decisions-Panic-Over and wanted to start the same thread for South West London parents with daughters who will be applying for secondaries (independents and grammar) for places in year 7 in Sept 2022.

Where are you applying, how are the virtual open days going..... and to tutor or not to tutor?

Good luck to all the MN DDs sitting LEH tomorrow!

Well my DD was clearly mystified by the problem solving at LEH today! NVR and VR OK though.

R272727 · 05/12/2021 20:40

How did you dd find the test today? I can’t get much out of mine.

HighRopes · 06/12/2021 12:39

Anyone else get the SPGS email? I was surprised, I thought it was tomorrow, but it came through this morning. Dd got through, luckily.

Highland79 · 06/12/2021 18:06

Hello all, does anyone know when PHS and Alleyn’s notify re. the next stage?

HighRopes · 06/12/2021 19:28

PHS said early January, so presumably a week or two before their 19 Jan exam day.

SW17cleocat · 06/12/2021 21:01

We got a yes email from Alleyns at 8pm tonight. They had initially said they would notify on 10 Dec (not sure whether they said ‘on’ or ‘by’). Does anyone know how many they put through at this stage? I think this is a new process for them as they didn’t use the ISEB before covid.

HighRopes · 07/12/2021 07:13

Congratulations, SW17! I don’t know the Alleyns process, is that for a stage 2 exam or just an interview?

SW17cleocat · 07/12/2021 07:50

Thanks HR - stage 2 (jan) is for the full exam - maths and English. Then interviews for those who get through that. I was not sure about applying to Alleyns but I’m glad I did now because at least I know her ISEB was decent enough - she did the ISEB at Alleyns as she’s in a state school and it was one of the earlier ones to host it.
I’d be happy to get her into Streatham and Clapham - that was her favourite! Have tried Jags as well and that is just ISEB and assessment morning, which is all done already.

It’s all too much this!

swgeek · 07/12/2021 08:18

@SW17cleocat that sounds like a very thorough process at Alleyn's, well done for making it to the next step. Indeed ISEB must have gone alright, hopefully that bodes well for the rest.

We won't really hear anything until early Jan (G&L) I think...

HighRopes · 07/12/2021 10:21

Dd hasn’t done ISEB, so we’re waiting for Surbiton and Putney to see if she’s got through to the next stage. I’m quietly hopeful as she got through to second stage Tiffin, SPGS and WHS. Dd pushed to do more schools than I wanted, and it turns out it was because she thought she wouldn’t get through to stage 2 in many of them - she’s a bit surprised and I think slightly regretting pushing to do so many, so I’m wondering whether to pull her out of some, and if so which.

Optimistic2022 · 07/12/2021 11:00

Hi all - first timer here. Got a DD at a state primary and she sat the ISEB for G&L and NHEH. She also sat the WHS, PHS and LEH tests. Got through WHS second stage - pleasantly surprised as she didn’t finish either sections. LEH problem solving was rather interesting as she described “felt like a test from Satan himself”.

My DD is stronger in English/VR so I don’t know how this will pan out…I’ve been prepping her at home with Atom and other resources that I purchased off from Amazon since February and not sure if I did right thing not getting her a tutor. Anyway, just thought I drop in and say ‘hi’ as I’ve enjoyed reading this thread and previous ones for 11+.

sugar001 · 07/12/2021 11:30

Dear all! First time comment her and secretly enjoying reading these thread. My DD did
Emmanuel and KGS 10+. Turn down Emmanuel offer with academic scholarship. Reserved the place at KGS and academic scholarship exam in Jan. she isn’t very keen to go to kgs and it is our back up school. She is at girls only prep school now.
She went through to tiffin second stage and very unlikely to go. DD wants to try 11+ at SPGS, G& L and WHS. She went through to second stage of WHS and SPGS, awaiting result for G&L in January. We aim for spgs and she is very keen to go there.

HighRopes · 07/12/2021 12:00

Hi Optimistic, loving the name! My dd is also at a state primary, no tutor but we’re using workbooks and Atom.

And hi sugar, too! Nice to have a KGS offer in the bag already! My older dd is at SPGS, it’s a fantastic school for the right girl, so fingers crossed for your dd.

Optimistic2022 · 07/12/2021 13:24

Thank you @HighRopes! Your method must definitely have worked as your DD is doing well in her tests 😊…. I also see we’re both waiting for PHS - I know they said early January but I’m hoping to hear something before the holiday break.

Benny12 · 07/12/2021 15:06

Hi been lurking on here a while and decided to post ! ... my DD sat LEH and all I got out of her is 'yeah I it went well ' she missed 3 questions on NRV ,finished the VR and the problem solving (which she said was easy ) but I am really unsure how to decipher that if I'm honest .. I am assuming that as she missed the 3 NVR questions she is out of it somewhat but have no idea ... anyone's experiences of the LEH process or indeed sundays exam much appreciated !

Optimistic2022 · 07/12/2021 15:36

Hi @Benny12, my dd found the VR and NVR fine but unfortunately didn’t finish either. She said the problem solving paper was extremely challenging and didn’t finish the last question. I’m now worried she won’t make it through the next step…

Benny12 · 07/12/2021 15:54

Hi Optimistic2022 .. thanks for the feedback and sorry for making you more anxious about the whole process !!! I guess Im just trying too see if what she said correlated to what others were saying (unlike her brother who when he says a test went well usually means he has failed it !)

chocolatedrops2 · 07/12/2021 22:18

My DD sat LEH a few years ago and was offered a place. I seem to remember that she didn’t finish all the verbal/non verbal reasoning in the exam so don’t be too concerned. Good luck! It’s a stressful time for parents but it will work out in the end.

Optimistic2022 · 08/12/2021 08:07

@Benny12 you’re welcome - I’m naturally of an over thinker so no fault of yours.

@chocolatedrops2 thank you for your feedback, very reassuring.

Highland79 · 08/12/2021 12:49

We also received an invitation to the next round from Alleyn’s. It seems most children in my DD’s year did too so no idea re. numbers!

Benny12 · 08/12/2021 14:41

thanks @chocolatedrops2

Flossietea · 08/12/2021 15:25

Hi @Benny12 take heart! My DD sat LEH last year, didn’t finish the NVR paper (she had three questions left when time ran out) but got offered a place with academic scholarship. So not finishing is definitely not a disaster.

Benny12 · 08/12/2021 15:33

wow @Flossietea well done your DD ..!! yes think i just to calm down a bit ...all this waiting around plays havoc with your brain Smile ... incidentally did your DD take up the place ? and is she enjoying it ?

Flossietea · 08/12/2021 16:03

@Benny12 she did take the place and she’s absolutely loving it! Really recommend the school it’s fantastic. So many opportunities to try new things and they’re encouraged to try anything and everything. The teachers are all excellent, the facilities are second to none, and the ethos of the school is very positive and encouraging. Their attitude to everything seems to be - have a go you might like it. Happy to answer any questions drop me a PM if you want to know something specific. Good luck to your DD!
