@AnneOfCleavage - that's wonderful news. 'Head Girl' always make me think of Darrell Rivers for some reason. Sensible and tall.

AnneOfCleavage · 24/05/2021 20:20

sandybay that is hilarious as that is exactly what I called her as she used to love those stories - had them on cd and listened to them loads. She is also both tall and sensible 😀

Well done on your DS's mock results Icanbe - a v impressive set of grades.

Thanks again for all your lovely wishes and messages. We are all very touched. Not quite sunk in as yet.

sandybayley · 24/05/2021 20:27

We are of certain age aren't we? DD was on the ballot paper for Head Girl. The results aren't in yet but I fear she is more a Felicity than Darrell.

crazycrofter · 24/05/2021 21:05

Ooh I used to love Malory Towers!

Dd is having a bad day, stayed at home because she felt anxious and now just seems to be in a foul mood... She’s so up and down! I hope it’s partly teenage hormones!

Oblomov21 · 24/05/2021 21:08

Well done Anne's dd!

Oblomov21 · 24/05/2021 21:09

Tee hee to the other ones.
ner ner na ner ner.
Sorry. But come on. They were nasty.....

Oh, great news on your dd @AnneOfCleavage: how absolutely lovely to see justice done: I do also think those sort of things are formative in your sense of whether life is fair/you can win out by being honest and above board :-)

EversoDelighted · 25/05/2021 06:31

Well done to your DD @AnneOfCleavage. I loved the MT books too, I read them to the DCs a few years ago.

Every now and then I get irritated with MN but then I think about all the support and friendships on the long running threads (there's one I've been on for 12 years now and a couple I've been on for probably 8 or so plus these ones) and it makes the irritation melt away.

KingscoteStaff · 25/05/2021 08:28

DD’s new Head Girl is also tall and sensible.

The deputies are quite tall and quite sensible.

DD is small and somewhat headstrong...

estherfrewen · 25/05/2021 08:40

@KingscoteStaff - is your DD more of a Tim Keith or a Nicola? I think my DS is a Peter Marlow...!

Alsoplayspiccolo · 25/05/2021 08:49

Brilliant news, AnnofCleavage - well done to your DD! 👏🏻🍾

Crazycrofter, DD came in from school perfectly happy yesterday, but was in tears by dinner time, supposedly over a drama assignment that she hadn’t actually started yet - it’s an emotional rollercoaster every day here Sad

AnneOfCleavage · 25/05/2021 09:12

Oh yes the hormones. We can have quite the swing from one extreme to the other. After having no period for 3 months DD and I have both come on at the same time - poor DH.

Re the head girl types. Our lower school when they had heads and deputies (they had them head of each house back then but now have scrapped that and have gone for one deputy in year 11 and one head from the 6th form only) seemed to have chosen pretty much tall-ish girls but lots were more the Alicia Johns type so popular and gobby.

sandybayley I think Felicity is much the nicer one as Darrell had her fearsome temper to contend with. Good luck to your DD 🤞🤞

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 25/05/2021 09:21

Fantastic results for your DS ican !

ChristopherTracy · 25/05/2021 10:23

Hi all, Very nervous about the exams in a couple of weeks here - we too have been told that we need to show big improvement or its resits or worse.

We are at least having appts with the mental health team though and the saturday job is going well.

What have you all done about theory tests in school time? Just been off sick? I know you have probably discussed it at length so apols for not rtwt.

estherfrewen · 25/05/2021 10:55

We had theory test Saturday am first time and at 8 am before school second time, but are allowed authorised absence for theory or driving test

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 25/05/2021 11:18

We're getting a bit nervous here too ChristopherTracy, it doesn't help that one of DS's subject teacher just gave him bad feedback on an essay but can't seem to find the time to talk through it this week and then it's half term. He needs to speak to him so he can understand what was wrong (it really isn't clear) prior to the exam!

Glad to here the MH appts are happening and that the job is good.

We have booked a Theory test for an evening slot so no missing school.

ChristopherTracy · 25/05/2021 11:26

Yes, I rather stupidly let DS rebook it himself - hence the school time theory test Hmm

crazycrofter · 25/05/2021 11:52

Dd's driving licence hasn't arrived yet and it's her birthday next week. We said we'd pay for driving lessons as a birthday present, but I'm thinking we'll need something to give her on the day!

Good luck with the exams for those who are a bit borderline. Dd's exams are towards the end of term and will largely dictate her UCAS grades. She's managed to get every grade in history so far this year except an A (but she got an A*) so who knows how that will go..

Oblomov21 · 25/05/2021 11:52

We got an email the week after ds had done his theory, about general Year 12 stuff and a little comment : please don't take time off for tests....

Well, as you all know our battle to even get a theory test.... that email was (forget it mate) to me.

Ds's actual test is in 8 weeks, middle of the day. Don't know if he's got any lessons. Don't care. That was the earliest date, and that was only with the app.

Sorry to hear of ds's being stressed. I don't know what other ds's are like but here we are rude, stroppy, moody, nasty to ds2.

I told him last night: I know you've got exams, but this is not ok, especially not the way you are behaving to DS2. I'll take away boxing, driving lessons, the lot.... it stops here and now.

Oblomov21 · 25/05/2021 12:01

Have you tried chasing them crazy.
Their website is awful as are their phone lines, and that's just normally. Even worse in covid.
But maybe worth a chase?
I have been dealing with the DVLA for my diabetes for 30 years and I find that every time I chase it prompts your case higher up the list and then within a ....week? action is taken.

KingscoteStaff · 25/05/2021 12:31

@estherfrewen DD is mostly Rowan with a few alarming flashes of Ginty.

DS was firmly brought up to be Patrick, but has rebelled and is now Giles.

ChristopherTracy · 25/05/2021 12:35

Yes they can be rude although DS is much better since he started his (customer facing) job - now he's having to deal with conflict at work with members of the public he is slightly more agreeable to us at home.

crazycrofter · 25/05/2021 12:44

That's interesting @christophertracy. I'd really like dd to get a job - not that she's particularly rude, just a bit stroppy, but I think I'd like her to experience the real world out there.

Thanks @oblomov21, perhaps I should chase. We applied 1st May so I thought maybe it was too soon?

Oblomov21 · 25/05/2021 13:23

Ahhh, recently. Then they might well still have a huge backlog. Still might be worth a chase though. You never know, it might prompt action, it's rarely detrimental.
