Lateral flow tests are your kids doing them regularly?

My Secondary children are testing irregularly. One of them tested last Sunday, I think the other last tested last Wednesday.
I remind them on testing days and will help/supervise, but they no longer want to do them. Are your children still testing twice a week?

No, there shouldn’t be pressure. But my kid’s are willing to do them, they just don’t think to pick them up. If the school text me on pick up day, I’d tell my kids to pick them up and they might remember.

KaleSlayer · 07/05/2021 19:22

They text me about less important things after all. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anonmousse · 07/05/2021 19:26

Yes we all do them twice a week. DC usually remember and mention it at dinner time. I do DS (11) for him and DD does her own. They've got used to it.
DH makes an enormous fuss every time!😂
I do feel bad about the plastic waste though.

NothingIsWrong · 07/05/2021 19:28

My eldest does them when she remembers. School aren't sending them home any more though, so I would have to go collect from the site if she needed more and it's a 20 mile round trip during hours when I'm at work so it doesn't happen very often.

Callingallbutterflies · 07/05/2021 19:28

Yes. Every Wednesday and Sunday. I am a responsible parent.

KaleSlayer · 07/05/2021 19:30

🤣

FFS it is pathetic to say the school don't remind me so I don't bother. Don't people want the schools to stay open ? Do you want to go back into lockdown. SEN fair enough, but NT teens can easily test twice weekly. Do you not bother reminding them to shower or do their homework either ?

Gizlotsmum · 07/05/2021 20:57

Yes every Wednesday and Sunday, logged in the schools team site as well

Gizlotsmum · 07/05/2021 20:58

You can get tests mailed out, normally arrive within 2 days

PretzelParadox · 07/05/2021 21:02

I am a responsible parent. But also understand the science/maths behind testing for non symptomatic covid when cases are so low.

In my city of half a million people, there was 34 positive PCR tests in the last week. here's why testing non symptomatic people when cases are very low is not very reliable

KaleSlayer · 07/05/2021 21:11

Your secondary kids need reminding to shower? 😬 My kids have been showering and doing homework for years so it’s quite natural to them.

Picking up covid tests, that’s a bit more alien to them. It would be useful if the school could mention it during form period. I’m not going to drive them back to school/college to pick them up.

SaltyAF · 07/05/2021 21:17

For those with a laissez-faire attitude, are you as casual about the necessity of school staff testing? I absolutely loathe doing it but can't find an alternative job, so am plodding on.

Honestly, yes. The tests are shit. And the kids are mixing anyway so it seems a bit pointless to be honest. 🤷🏻‍♀️ My kids school/college seem very relaxed about everything, kids without masks etc so I’m not going to make my kids panic about being tested.

Occasionally yes I need to remind them. Doing Covid tests is becoming much less alien as they have done 2 a week for the last 9 weeks so 18 each. It's becoming a routine bit like showering or homework really.

traumatisednoodle · 07/05/2021 21:32

The tests are not perfect. Of course the more they do the more practised they become.....

tigger1001 · 07/05/2021 21:42

Yes eldest tests twice a week (youngest at primary). He wants to do his part but I have doubts over the accuracy of them and how well he swabs.

We record the results on nhs website, thankfully our school don't ask for the results there too. I wouldn't be happy giving the results to the school without knowing why they needed that info and what happens to it. The school don't routinely get told of any other medical test he gets, so why would this one be different?

WhoWants2Know · 07/05/2021 22:14

My oldest is happy enough to do the tests, but sometimes she forgets and does it a day later. I often forget to upload the results, though.

FeelinHappy · 08/05/2021 00:07

Yes, they've only missed the occasional one.

I was sceptical about risk of false positives now that cases are low, but then there was a case picked up by LFT in DD's bubble. Close associates isolated, rest of the bubble stayed in school, no one else got ill. Without the LFT there could easily have been a second case and all 300 of them sent home. It would feel a bit dickish to stop doing them after that.

Dobbyisahouseelf · 08/05/2021 01:38

My teenager is still testing twice a week. Although not in the morning as we have to be up and out early for school and work so wait until the evening.

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 08/05/2021 03:25

No parent ever should be forcing their children to do anything against their consent!!

NiceGerbil · 08/05/2021 03:36

Mine are.
They remind me ..!
