Lateral flow tests are your kids doing them regularly?

My Secondary children are testing irregularly. One of them tested last Sunday, I think the other last tested last Wednesday.
I remind them on testing days and will help/supervise, but they no longer want to do them. Are your children still testing twice a week?

Yes, twice a week. I'm quite impressed that I don't even need to remind him.

Bibbetybobbity · 05/05/2021 13:49

No, for the reasons given by @Schoolbypass

NotSure94 · 05/05/2021 13:54

We've missed a few and I agree that I'm not convinced as to efficacy especially when DS does it himself, there's no way he's rubbing his throat or nose for the count of ten. He's autistic also like a previous poster and if he starts getting distressed at having to do it that'll be the last time it happens so I'm reminding him but not pushing it tbh. I can't wrestle a 6 foot teen to the ground to do it.

You get the feeling that the government must have an enormous hangar full of these things to get through, (even though they're not terribly accurate) the way they're dishing them out like sweeties.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 05/05/2021 13:58

No. Mine said no to them. We've not done a single test.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 05/05/2021 13:59

Yes. I am unconvinced of the point of them, but school has asked, and son doesn't want to get in trouble for not doing them.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 05/05/2021 14:04

@Hotcuppatea

No. Its an awful waste of plastic.
Yeah, funny how all the bruhaha about that went out the window with Covid.
Takingabreakagain · 05/05/2021 14:08

No tests being done by my secondary school children. I didn't consent to the initial testing when they returned to school. I think it should only be done if anyone had symptoms.
The number of 'cases' being found is very low and I can't justify putting my children through the constant testing on that basis. The associated but little talked about effects of this are going to be very long lasting - children (and adults actually) are being treated as if they are contaminated by the plague and being kept in fear by the constant measures and restrictions.
The testing is all voluntary anyway so everyone can say no or just not do it.

Very true - apparently climate change and harm to the planet don't count when it comes to focus. All the disposable stuff they need to use in places like hairdressers too and masks etc. I don't understand why washing the gowns and towels they've always used isn't good enough.
Goodtohear · 05/05/2021 14:23

Yes twice a week they all have reminders set on their phones. They also do ons study so today will do two tests - not had one complaint.

DonGray · 05/05/2021 17:02

No we haven't done any LF tests

actiongirl1978 · 05/05/2021 17:08

I do mine working in a school, DD forgets most of the time. DS in Yr6 and wont even comtemplate the idea

PerhapsCarriageGreen · 05/05/2021 17:15

Yes. Her school insists and my school turned up 6 asymptomatic teachers with them so we do see some value. I'm also doing it twice weekly for school. Both schools send reminders on the day which helps.

Redcrayons · 05/05/2021 17:19

It’s slipped a bit here, tbh.

We’ll all do them tonight

0ntheg0again · 06/05/2021 09:23

My youngest 12 does them himself without me even asking but my older 14 doesn't. I am not enforcing but will ask him now and again

MargaretThursday · 06/05/2021 09:33

Generally. They've each missed one I think. I'm not that good at registering with the school though.

School one is odd though, they only want the form filling out if it's negative. you're meant to phone if it's positive, or redo if invalid.

00100001 · 06/05/2021 09:38

DS17. No. waste of time.

hedgehogger1 · 06/05/2021 09:38

A kid had my school tested positive with no symptoms confirmed by PCR. 4 of her friends also then tested positive while in their isolation period. Worth doing. Just wish there was less plastic!

why would he get in trouble for not doing a voluntary pointless test?

But how do the school KNOW you've taken the test?
Lougle · 06/05/2021 09:47

DD2, DD3, DH and I test on Sundays and Wednesdays. I have to report the DDs' results to school on a Google form as well as on the gov.uk site. DH reports his on his school portal as well as gov.uk.

DD1's school hasn't done LFTs. It's a special school and they decided it would be too stressful for some students.

KaleSlayer · 06/05/2021 09:51

My kids are meant to be bringing them home to do but aren’t. The school haven’t mentioned them and I’m not going to chase it up.

RHOShitVille · 06/05/2021 09:55

We don't really bother. DD has ASD and anxiety and barely holding it together as it is.

Vallmo47 · 06/05/2021 09:59

Yes my son is doing them. I don’t really ‘believe’ in the science behind them though after receptionist at school told me they’re not very accurate anyway (if symptoms). With comments like that and zero reminders from school I don’t think many are doing it to be honest. I have to search through loads of emails to even find the one I’m after. I mean....

megletthesecond · 06/05/2021 09:59

Yea. Twice a week. Sunday and Thursday. I do mine on a Tues and Friday.

I set it up for them and they only have to do their swab. I check and report the results.

pointythings · 06/05/2021 10:27

DD2 has been irregular with them but has also been irregular with going to school due to a dose of appendicitis requiring surgery followed last week by a major UTI. Not a lot of point in testing if you aren't going to school (or anywhere but bed).

We're back to regular testing now that she's well again. Just Yr 13 assessments to survive now.
