French or Latin, second GCSE language

DD is planning to take German GCSE and has to choose between French or Latin. She really likes both and it's quite likely she'll do a language at A-level. Are there advantages to either subject? Obviously French is more useful in day to day life. The Latin class size will be smaller, which I think she would like. She also enioys Maths, English, Art. Not that interested in History so unlikely to use Latin there. Is there anything else to consider to help choose between the two?

Unless I've been travelling in France, I've found my Latin GCSE to be far more useful on a day to day basis than French. I'm not in science, but, as a writer and lover of the English language, it has helped me significantly.

French and Spanish are the two that schools really want - state schools anyway. I think that only offering one might be an issue. I would perhaps look into that before any final decison is made. I do believe one of DD's friends had to learn Spanish to teach. He had a degree in French and Italian. Fofr that reason, French is the better option. You may well find she can do French ab initio at university but some do not offer it. Ditto Spanish.

Soanish and French are proba bly the most competitive MFL degrees. DC are more likely to take them at A level. If she does not want to teach, do what she likes! I am not sure how many schools now offer Latin. More than there used to be, but it is still mostly academic schools perhaps?
