Exams cancelled 2
nvcontrolfreak · 19/04/2021 20:20

@Tonylepony

Are the exam boards producing answers for the assessments?
Only for schools (locked portal, similar to access to most recent past papers)
Tonylepony · 19/04/2021 20:31

@nvcontrolfreak thanks

Orangesandlemons77 · 19/04/2021 21:16

It says on AQA site

See materials listed below or log in for secured materials
Teachers can find publicly available materials below, and log in to Centre Services (or Secure Key Materials in e-AQA) for secured materials.

Does this mean they use the publicly available stuff or not?

Blubell46 · 19/04/2021 21:22

@nvcontrolfreak

Thank you.

bfmhgmum · 20/04/2021 15:32

has anyone found the igcse assessment materials yet?

scabby1 · 20/04/2021 15:50

Re IGCSE’s, I’ve been searching to no avail.

I think maybe they are not being released?

bfmhgmum · 20/04/2021 16:35

but if Edexcel are releasing gcse material shouldn't they release igcse as well for level playing fields?

MarshaBradyo · 20/04/2021 16:39

Just dipping back in haven’t rtt

I still wonder about whether cancelling exams was the right way to go yr11

Nothing I can do about it of course

Ds seems fine but I feel a bit out of the loop as he doesn’t do the revision hours mentioned here, hopefully he will be ok. He seems confident but I was a big studier when young so feels different

Blubell46 · 20/04/2021 17:01

@MarshaBradyo not sure if the exams are cancelled in our household!

Exams in hall, candidate numbers given and exam table known by all with all the rules!

DC saying they had a paper from here today at school

Actually I just asked and it’s quite similar here.

Not full on exam level, more like mocks apparently

NotDonna · 20/04/2021 23:25

I’ve not even tried to find materials as who knows what schools will actually use. They’re all doing different things. I’d rather mine stick to studying and revising best they can.
Yes both my Yr13 & Yr11 have said they’re like mocks in the hall with candidate numbers etc. But they are doing a lot more of them! They’ve just added a 6th week of tests before half term. I think that now means Gcse will have 5 hours worth of testing per subject since March and A levels around 7 hours per subject. That’s definitely more that the normal exam series even including mocks (they had no mocks).

NotDonna · 20/04/2021 23:29

Crikey, I’ve just realised how much blinking marking that’ll mean. That’s an incredible amount of evidence.

Lockdown2021 · 21/04/2021 09:16

Is my understanding correct that schools now have to select the same pieces of evidence across a cohort? So initially DD was told, for instance, that they would pick the best 3 pieces of work for each person, but my understanding is now they cannot do that. So if you had cocked up on a piece of work that is selected for evidence across the cohort there is nothing anyone can do about that and if not reflective of your actual ability that would be a shame. DD potentially has this scenario in one subject where she bombed a recent test and the teacher “advised” her she really needs to pull her marks up in the forthcoming exam (sorry not an exam it’s an “assessment” Hmm)

Phineyj · 21/04/2021 10:53

Yes, that is correct, Lockdown, unless there are significant e.g. medical circumstances. The rules are slightly different for the Cambridge board, but that doesn't affect most people.

Phineyj · 21/04/2021 10:55

I know, the marking! I said when the consultation came out, bye bye summer half term.

treeeeemendous · 21/04/2021 11:21

I'm trying to find the info online to print off for dd but we don't know if the school are using these however I'm guessing it's better to have revised that stuff in case. I just cannot wait for this to be over for them.

saucermilk · 21/04/2021 15:26

@Lockdown2021 yes I agree the schools have to use the same evidence it seems.
This is why I can't understand how some schools have told students they can bank the grades they are happy with and concentrate on other subjects that they want to improve on.
I'm very jealous on behalf of my child of those schools and I feel in a year where our kids have had the worse education since the 1940s potentially they should all be given that option.

My DD had been told they are selecting their best 4 in college assessment 'grades' from Year 12-13 - in A level biology. I don't have a lot of faith in the department for other reasons, so now I'm concerned they are going to submit evidence that can't be accepted Confused
FreekStar · 21/04/2021 20:57

Yes, schools have to submit the same pieces of evidence for each child. But DD's school have stressed that their final grade won't be an average of their marks, the evidence will show a profile of their progress and what grade they were working at by the end of the assessment process. So fingers crossed they'll bear in mind that the mocks they sat in November were a long time ago ...

FreekStar · 21/04/2021 20:58

My dd has 10 'assessments' each week until May half termShock

Blubell46 · 21/04/2021 21:19

@FreekStar gosh that is awful! Sometimes I feel our kids are going through an endurance test!

saucermilk · 21/04/2021 22:23

Yep massive endurance test here too.
Also worried about them using the mock results from the only ever mocks they have taken in November. Each department is weighting the mocks differently so it doesn't even make sense that way!

fortyfifty · 22/04/2021 09:05

Do you know where I can find that in writing? I'm going to go back and read the information that the college sent out about using historic evidence and see if I read it correctly, that they are using different pieces of evidence for each student.
