Started a new thread as last one is full.

My year 11 dd is still learning new topics in some subjects - maths and science as they hadn't finished the syllabus. This seems utterly ludicrous to be doing this to me. Any teacher thoughts?

ihearttc · 14/04/2021 17:13

My DS is back at school now but he did about 2-3 hours a day over Easter most days, he’s doing an hour or so in the evenings when he gets home. Which I appreciate is probably not enough but he has lost all motivation for studying tbh.

HappySonHappyMum · 14/04/2021 19:21

I'm impressed with that tbh @ihearttc. My DD is all examed out. Two weeks of formal assessments (exams in all but name) before the Easter holidays. She now has six weeks of informal assessments starting next Monday - she's totally done. Keeping herself motivated for another six weeks is just too much for her so she's going to take it a week at a time and see how it goes. As far as I'm concerned I'm not going to put any more pressure than she's already put on herself. This whole process has been like Chinese water torture, drip, drip, dripping away.

ihearttc · 14/04/2021 19:38

Ours haven’t got any formal exams at all, they are just doing mini in class assessments.

Phineyj · 14/04/2021 19:58

tree we were advised to do that so they're not missing too much knowledge for A-level.

StayingVigilant · 14/04/2021 21:14

My Yr13 DD is trying to do 4/5 hours a day but not coping at all well. She’s in tears and too stressed/anxious/depressed to concentrate but impossible to convince her to put the revision away. Like most others she’s had 2 weeks of exams already and now another 3 weeks worth. We’re still awaiting camhs after her 3 overdoses in the last 6 months. It’s all too much. She’s not well & perhaps wouldn’t be even without all this but It may have been ok if the exams had been in June and slimmed down as originally suggested, The constant moving of the goalposts definitely isn’t helping. I’m fighting for help but it’s hard to watch!

gleegeek · 14/04/2021 23:42

My year 13 dd is doing an hour a day maxSad She is way too anxious and panicky to focus on school work, it's like a train crash in slow motion, we can see the disaster happening but can't do anything to stop it.

Blubell46 · 14/04/2021 23:56

My ds who is in Y11 has lost all motivation!

He was given his timetable just before Easter with a couple of exams starting after the Easter break but the main exams starting on the 10th- with pretty much 3-4 exams a day for 3 weeks!

He feels, what is the point...his drive is no longer there. His reports have always been amazing but now we have no clue what will happen.

springlike · 15/04/2021 09:05

@FreekStar probably about 2 hrs a day here. DS says he is working but I'm not so sure. He has definitely lost a lot of motivation, just hope that he has done enough with his work throughout. I'm definitely more worried than him! Hmm

NotDonna · 15/04/2021 10:11

Yr11 DD had timetabled herself 4/5 hours a day everyday over the Easter holidays but also has virtual work experience (20 hours), so struggling to fit it all in. I had said to forget about the work experience stuff (there’s a lot of homework) but she says it’s a good distraction. I think she’s maybe doing 2 hours of actual revision most days. She doesn’t seem too stressed unlike my yr13 DD who is finding it much more stressful. She’s also doing a few hours each day.

PettsWoodParadise · 15/04/2021 23:34

My Y11 DD was doing about four hours a day first week, the second week she had a three day drama workshop and came home too exhausted to do more than 45 mins which is what one topic of one subject seems to take her. Yesterday she crashed and did about two topics.

Tomorrow we hit Waterstones which I know will involve us singlehandedly bringing the economy back from the brink. Grin. No studying allowed. I have the day off work. Pizza in the freezing cold but it is a restaurant- yay!

pointythings · 18/04/2021 19:42

Well, my DD2 was planning to do a lot of revision over the Easter holidays, but her health went steadily downhill. She has fibromyalgia so it's tough anyway. She was keeping up with the work set but feeling worse and worse - and the day before school started up again I rushed her to hospital and within 24 hours she'd had her appendix out and was on antibiotics for a water infection. So now we are post surgery and still nowhere near 100%, with A level assessments imminent. It isn't great, though the school are being as flexible as possible with regards to when she sits her assessments. Sad

At least her health is slowly getting back to normal.

gleegeek · 18/04/2021 23:13

Oh gosh pointythings your poor dd! Hope she feels much much better and can enjoy a long summer holiday recovering when all this misery is over.
We're not doing as badly as you but dd is being investigated for an autoimmune disease called POTS at the moment. She is permanently exhausted and has subsequently done very little revision. She's also getting frequent panic attacks and now has awful health anxiety so I don't feel I can put any pressure on at all. I don't know how she'll cope with full time college for the next however many weeksSad College are being understanding so far but I suspect they're going to struggle to find evidence of her working at the level she needs for uni offers...

pointythings · 19/04/2021 07:30

Gleegeek one of DD2's best friends has POTS - has lived with it for a long time and is well at the moment, but it's been tough for her. Huge sympathy.

We're lucky enough that we DO have evidence DD2 is working at the level she needs for her uni grades, but she wanted to nail it down with some good assessments, especially in biology where she's come on miles in the last year.

bfmhgmum · 19/04/2021 14:15

Hi
I've read that assessment materials were due to be released today. Does anyone know where I can find them?

Orangesandlemons77 · 19/04/2021 16:05

I'm wondering this too
ihearttc · 19/04/2021 16:07

Me too!

scabby1 · 19/04/2021 16:13

Snap.
Also, does anyone know whether assessment materials are being released for IGCSE’s?

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 19/04/2021 16:37

AQA ones are on aqa.org.uk under each subject

Blubell46 · 19/04/2021 16:38

I heard they will be released this week!

nvcontrolfreak · 19/04/2021 16:47

OCR’s are on the website. Pretty easy to navigate.

scabby1 · 19/04/2021 17:05

I can’t find any assessment material on the Edexel website in respect of IGCSE’S.

Blubell46 · 19/04/2021 17:07

@nvcontrolfreak sorry for being dim- just checked OCR chemistry A and can't find it!

Jenthefredo · 19/04/2021 17:16

So sorry to hear so many dc are struggling:(
Ds1 (y13) has a week of formal assessments this week then a week of "tasks" (?) To get completed at home next week.
He had a migraine yesterday from staring at his laptop for so long :(
He is pretty stressed and is anxious he hasn't done enough...
I cannot wait for this to be over

Tonylepony · 19/04/2021 19:36

Are the exam boards producing answers for the assessments?
