We just want our kids in school. Please. If at all possible.

And driving lessons. And good Mental Health. And happiness.

In-and-amongst all this Covid nightmare and lockdown debacle.

Just a thought @crazycrofter...if they don't have cameras turned on could she record or take screenshots with her mobile?

crazycrofter · 19/01/2021 14:56

Thanks @FoolsAssassin and @orangecinnamon, that’s helpful. I don’t think there’s much point in challenging their decision to complete 2/3 of the course in year 12, but having access to the slides would help her.

orangecinnamon · 19/01/2021 14:56

Me tonight too @teta, not sure if Dd supposed to attend or not but she'll be around.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/01/2021 15:49

@Wheresthebeach that's the thing, one or two word comments don't really help in their understanding. It's so much harder for them to approach a teacher in online teaching so the feedback needs to be full.

@estherfrewen yes, conflicting feedback here too. I'm 'glad' it's not just us, it was making me think that maybe it's just not for him which would be really sad.

@FoolsAssassin no, he's not doing maths at all. Its Eng Lit, Biology, Economics and History plus EPQ.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/01/2021 15:50

@crazycrofter that's madness, they should be focussing on the teaching in the lesson (with slides) and then provide the slides after. They can always ask the students to expand their notes more than what's on the slides.

Good idea, I've encouraged that with DS2 (mainly because he's very slow at getting work complete) so if they remove the work he's not lost.
Monkey2001 · 19/01/2021 15:53

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn that is a crazy workload with no overlap. I would definitely encourage him to drop one unless he is a workaholic. 3 great grades are better for getting into good universities than 4 weaker grades. Economics and History go well together, the least linked one there is Biology.

Monkey2001 · 19/01/2021 15:56

Microsoft Teams allows you to record the meeting - I don't think you have to be the organiser - teams.handsontek.net/2020/03/20/record-meeting-microsoft-teams/

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/01/2021 15:59

He wants to @Monkey2001 but school are now saying no go unless teacher tells you to go. He is certainly not a workaholic! Grin .
He likes Biology though, he was hoping to drop economics as he has literally zero interest, only thing is he does quite well at it and if those grades are higher than his Lit they will make him drop the Lit.

Wheresthebeach · 19/01/2021 16:02

I hope they are back to school soon.

DD's teachers are already warning them that their A levels next year might be altered. God knows...but if they are off til Easter then they will have to do something. Can't stand this.

crazycrofter · 19/01/2021 16:29

Wow @JustHereWithMyPopcorn that is a big workload. Dd has been finding just 3 subjects (no EPQ) pretty heavy going. Hope he’s able to drop one soon.

I warned Dd yesterday that they could be at home until Easter and she was gutted. I noticed on the BBC just, they were saying they may gradually open schools in lower infection areas first, after half term. We’re West Mids where rates are around 700ish per 100k so doubt we’ll be first!

FoolsAssassin · 19/01/2021 16:47

That is a horrendous workload JustHerWithmyPopcorn, have they explained their rationale behind it ?

DS’s college have been making preparations for return after Easter. I think if they do lower areas first he may be back before then.

icanbewhatiwant · 19/01/2021 16:51

Yes they were saying on tv this morning possibly no return until after Easter. But just now on the bbc news channel they've said schools might open different times in different regions.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/01/2021 16:56

I think their rationale is that having potentially missed a lot of school, now is not the time to narrow options unless they are really struggling. BUT they will only let you drop the subject with your worst grades which may not be the subject yo actually want to take.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/01/2021 16:56

drop not take.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/01/2021 16:58

Did anyone think they would go back after half term? I assumed the worst and that Easter would be the earliest. I think they may let Yr11 and 13 go back after half term - if anyone.

orangecinnamon · 19/01/2021 17:31

Oh God...DH is grumpy because he got the time wrong for parents eve and wont have time to drop shopping to his Mum (who lives 5mins away) he can't just drop and go apparently. Dd is nervous for some reason and annoyed at the whole concept of parent evening when she is practically an adult. Both could not be bothered where I set the computer up etc met with blank stares. I despair !

EwwSprouts · 19/01/2021 17:40

Large glass of wine OrangeC. That is how we're supposed to do Zoom parents' evening isn't it?

Zandathepanda · 19/01/2021 17:53

I am hoping (probably foolishly) that Dd will have her jab before she has to go back to school. She’s group 6 so if they go back after Easter there may be a slim chance?? It would make her a lot less anxious.

Zandathepanda · 19/01/2021 17:57

I realise I am probably the only mum who wants her Dc to go back after Easter!

Piggywaspushed · 19/01/2021 18:07

I am ambivalent zanda because obviously the safety of my job and DH's (allegedly group 5) are tied up in all this too. DS works well from home. DS1 is very miserable about the whole thing but does tend to be a misery anyway.

ChristopherTracy · 19/01/2021 18:15

Easter? Sad

Zandathepanda · 19/01/2021 18:30

Yes our Dcs are the same years aren’t they?! 2nd Year Uni Dd is very fed up too!

EssentiallyDelighted · 19/01/2021 18:38

Word at DS's school is that Easter looks likely too. DS says that's what they're all assuming and a friend who works there didn't contradict me when I saw her recently and mentioned it.

I found a dribble of mulled wine...also apparently, there is a football match that may have contributed to grumpiness!
