Year 13/11 how do you feel about the 3 extra weeks...

...to "catch up"?
Seriously? After all that has happened and is still to come, does anybody seriously think that delaying exams by three whole weeks is actually going to make a blind bit of difference?

Our private school finishes on the 26 June. Interesting.

The pupils are not allowed to wear coats or scarves or anything to cover their school jumpers up as it will distract them from learning.

As if being freezing cold won't distract them from learning!

Sometimes I think the people coming up with these policies must really dislike children. Maximising learning doesn't appear to be the goal here.

That's stupid
All the schools near me have asked students to wear warm clothes.

Sweetchillijam
but that is just nuts isn't it?
Open windows may ne in the regualtions, but not wearing coats is up to the school.

Time for some parent power, complain, get other parents to compalin etc

Ours have recently done mock mocks, so I'm waiting to see the result of these.

Sweetchillijam · 14/10/2020 11:03

DD did mock mocks in English and maths after only being back at school for just two weeks!!! They did a 1 hr 45 min paper in just 1 hour (and DD has dyslexia should have received 25 % extra time. As expected all the results were dreadful and they received these on a mock certificate. So it is likely these will be used as CAG if exams don’t go ahead.

Here is confirmation of this mad rule re no coats from a school letter.

‘....It is cold during some lessons, can my child keep their coat on?
We ask students to remove coats inside the building as it helps us to quickly identify students by the flash on their jumpers. This is more important than ever when students have to stay apart from other bubbles. We feel that students learn best when not wearing outdoor clothes, just as you would not expect them to wear a coat at home whilst doing homework. If students are cold, then they should wear extra layers underneath, such as a plain white t-shirt under their shirt, or a light coloured sports ‘skin.’’

I would be going back to them and asking them if they are happy to fun the cost of

  1. 5 sets pf full thermals per child, as you can't afford it, and one ordinary T-shirt does not provide enough warmth
  2. new set of school shirts and trousers as the current ones do not allow space under for thermals
  3. If the teachers can teach as well wrapped in coats and gloves, why can't the kids learn as well, or maybe the teachers coudl be encouraged to wear thermals?

Perhaps a coloured lanyard would help with the identification issue , and perhaps wearing a coat would solve the cost of new clothes.

Sweetchillijam · 14/10/2020 11:45

To be fair I don’t mind paying for thermals or a fleece even if I had to stitch the school
logo and year flash to it to keep DD warm and in education but come December time or when the frost starts if the schools are still open a fleece and thermals won’t cut it in the north if England.

steppemum · 14/10/2020 11:54

can't imagine the teachers putting up with it in December either

Sweetchillijam · 14/10/2020 15:02

By the sounds of it the teachers sound like they are wrapped up for artic weather conditions and are moving around to keep warm within their taped lines. DD has gone with a flask of hot chocolate today to try and keep her hands warm.
