Has anyone else heard how their school is doing GCSE results day?

Just wondered, as our school have been totally silent.

OP posts:

DDs' school is inviting them in for socially-distanced results collection. I guess they still want the 'jumping in the air with joy' photos from the high achievers.

ChicCroissant · 20/07/2020 17:45

DD's school is doing their normal results day, come in and pick them up for both GCSE and A levels this year. So far, anyway!

HPFA · 20/07/2020 19:33

DD's school is going to Email. Said the portal will be open between 8 and 10.30 am.

She has an unconditional offer for Sixth Form as the school has judged that there is a very low risk of her submitted grades being overturned by Ofqual.

lljkk · 20/07/2020 19:36

Kids at DC school finish GCSEs in yr9, yr10 & yr11.
Will collect in person.
The timing is scheduled for each group, one way system in place.
Doesn't seem that elaborate, tbh.

Rhubardandcustard · 20/07/2020 22:33

School have said email by 9.30am actual grades and by midday will also send what grades they submitted to the boards!

Email contact with head of year 11 and sixth form admin only that day.

Email on the Friday confirming place at sixth form if results are ok.

Bit disappointed they won’t get a chance to actually speak to someone in the day if they need to talk to someone about their results. And seeing as kids are being let back to school in September I don’t see why they are doing email only. Can only think it’s because they are expecting a lot of disappointed and angry kids/parents whose grades are nowhere near what they had hoped they would be.

ShaunaTheSheep · 20/07/2020 22:43

Timed entry for each class, one way system, staff available in gym hall with socially distanced waiting area. No loitering outside gates - so I guess they'll all head to the park to compare notes.

Interestingly, for entry to 6th form, school will take into account either the centre assessed grade or the official grade, whichever is the higher. Anyone else's school doing this?

GU24Mum · 22/07/2020 11:05

Ours are being e-mailed. No chance to go in and get them which is a pity seeing how much everything has opened up. They thought it would be unfair for some children to get them at 9.30, others at 10, 11 etc. Seeing how wierd a process it is, this year, I think mine would have liked to go in for some normality about things.

Lonecatwithkitten · 22/07/2020 20:51

Attend school between 8 am and 10am on the day, if wish someone else to collect or to have emailed needs to be organised and authenticated 7 days in advance with the exams officer. Attendance is subject to any change in local circumstances.

MrsSpenserGregson · 26/07/2020 18:55

Attend school on the day - specific time slots for each tutor group, and dire warnings about not hanging around together before/afterwards, or going at the wrong time. Staff will be on site, bless them, to discuss results with pupils.

Interestingly, it will be impossible to email the results (no explanation was given), so anyone not attending on the day will have their results posted to them via snail mail.

itsgettingweird · 26/07/2020 19:16

We have. There is 4 20 minute slots and students go to whichever one there surname falls in. Eh a-e etc.
Drive through one entrance and out the other. Drive by collection and can get hoodies as well.

Another local school said results would be sent via app. Parents are not happy and have complained. Especially because ds school is only a mile and a bit away and the discrepancy is huge.

itsgettingweird · 26/07/2020 19:25

I'm worried about all these issues people seem to think there will be with the results?

I'm not expecting higher than mocks even though that's usual way it goes but surely results won't be lower than where they actually can prove they were?

EasilyDelighted · 26/07/2020 20:20

As our mocks were in early December but I would hope they are better grades. I just feel there's no point worrying about it for now.

BertieBob · 26/07/2020 20:25

Ours are being emailed out to students

itsgettingweird · 26/07/2020 20:25

I wasn't worried until this thread!

But I really can't see how the government would think it'll go un noticed if 70/80/90% of students get lower than mocks across the board. Or that even this government would be stupid enough to try it?!

Maybe the odd anomaly due to the way it's done via listing students in order of predicted grade.

3teens2cats · 26/07/2020 20:30

Our school is making them available through the school portal, do pupils log in to see them.

PaddingtonPaddington · 26/07/2020 21:04

DDs school given the choice of going in or getting an email. DD chosen to go in. Letter from school to say social distancing, no parents allowed in the school, no subject teachers will be present and they must not contact teachers to discuss grades. If they want to discuss results they can make an appointment for the next day with a member of senior staff/head if year.

BlueMarigold · 27/07/2020 07:47

My daughter has to go in at 9. We were sent instructions and a map showing her where to go. We aren’t allowed in with her.

Inkythemouse · 27/07/2020 07:49

We will get a text in the morning to tell us what time to go and collect ds results

Coromandine · 27/07/2020 10:24

@ShaunaTheSheep That's interesting. Will they let you all know your centre assessed grade, or only let you know if your final grade wouldn't be high enough but your CAG would?

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 27/07/2020 12:03

Ours has told us a couple of weeks ago. first they want to know if it's the child's intention to actually want to come to school to collect them (results will be emailed out at 10am). If they do then they will be doing it in 3 slots 8-8.30, 8.30-9.00 and 9.00 to 9.30am, done alphabetically.

Coromandine · 27/07/2020 12:25

When I got my O /A level results, i never wanted to open them publicly so i waited for them to arrive by post the next day. Dd is supposed to enrol with sixth form the day they arrive though so needs to go and collect them. I said it's up to her whether she opens them at school or brings them home to open in private. They can enrol online. Her group of friends has differing abilities so tact is important
