School Fees during Corona

Guys quick one. I paid the school fees for this current term about 4 weeks ago - and we got 50% off per child because of Corona. They called it “holding their place” because let’s face it they won’t be going this term.

Anyway I was fairly happy with that - but had a zoom with a girlfriend today and she said her kids school had just asked for a nominal £200 payment this term.

What have the schools your kids go to been asking for? Am I being ripped off!

This has been discussed at length on this thread. I have a 30% discount on a boarding place, 15 on a day school and I think that's pretty standard for senior schools.

Year 13 child’s school got no discount - cheeky buggers. Year 7 child at different school got 30% off.

My 50% doesn’t sound so bad then.

Perhaps because I have 4? I Do get discounts on the 3 additional children.

None at the moment. School announcing discount after Boris announcement. All support staff on furlough.

How a school can afford only £200 per term is astonishing. They must have massive cash reserves to draw down on, or they have furloughed every member of staff and mothballed the premises. What happens if schools do go back in some form in June? Are they just remaining shut?

Your friend's story sounds extremely unlikely- they would not be able to cover their costs?

We have had about 10% discount, but we are having live timetable and classes and DS seems to be actually doing more than he was when he was actually at school. DS is a day pupil, so I assume boarders will be getting a bigger discount.

15% for us, I am not happy but have paid up. Most of the staff are furloughed and they have pretty big cash reserves but I do want the school to survive.

50% in incredible. 10% here for 3 children in the same school.

@emz771 how much schooling are your children getting at the moment?

No discount offered at ours. DS is in S2 (Scotland) and getting about 2 hours work a day.

About 3 hours per day.

I suppose that represents 50% of schooling then.

DS has compulsory registration at 8.30 and then his timetable is exactly the same as a normal school day, they even throw in assembly! His classes are all live and he gets homework, tests etc and his work is marked. So to be fair we can't really say he isn't get any education. They give ideas for extra curricular stuff as well and have weekly house competitions too.

No discount here, but just like @ineedaholidaynow's school, we have a full school timetable 8.45am to 4pm every day.

50% is very generous compared to all the schools I know of. Most are doing 20%.

20% off and a full day's normal timetable (albeit remotely)

No discount - I lie , 200 pounds off per term. I’m delighted !
