SW London girls independent/grammars thread 2020

Last year, there were two amazing threads which were super helpful about exactly this, so I wanted to start a thread for girls due to start September 2020. If anyone from last year wants to contribute please do!

We have narrowed our choices down to 5, sadly not in the right postcode for Tiffin, and decided not to do the Sutton grammars.

So, she will be doing PHS, WHS, LEH, SHS and Woldingham. Also registered for Emanuel but we may pull that one.

Reading through all the messages today sounds excellent news for so many and really hopeful news for those with WL places .Congrats everyone! I’ve heard from so many people over the last few days that had WL places in previous years and did get offers in the end (they all say there is lots of movement with the girls schools), plus some that didn’t but whose children now doing so well and happy where they went.
We accepted our place at WHS on Friday and paid the deposit ...... (just incase they changed their minds !)
We had waiting list places today from both Putney and LEH. So we’re all completely done now.
Really good luck those waiting for tomorrow .... 6 letters in one day??? Very nerve racking !!!!

So pleased it's good news for so many on here, congrats to all your DDs! I hope with some of those here getting their first choice and releasing places that others on waiting lists will have good news soon.

DD also got an offer from LEH, which she is very happy about. Just waiting for KGS today...

Gulp - feeling a bit stunned. Offers from FHS, Ibstock and St James. Wait list for G&L and Emanuel.
A lot to take in . That's it, we're all done.
Wasn't expecting Ibstock until 21st!

Hi All, We recevied letters from G&L, LU, SHHS and FHRP, but didn't receive any letter from SPGS. Anyone received the results for SPGS?

Also on PHS waiting list. DD wants it so badly! Painful. This thread giving some hope. Thank you all.

Question: do the schools tend to offer on waitlist as soon as they receive declines, or do they wait for a bunch and release all on one day?

They call you as soon as the place becomes available and you have 24 hours to respond.

Last year WHS moved early and quite a way into the top third of the waiting list. PHS didn’t move until after the deadline and then only very very slightly.

Previous year PHS didn’t move at all. Don’t know about WHS. It’s unpredictable and all dependent on who has which places.

Thank you. I'm hoping since PHS did it a little differently this year, there's more hope for the WL.

@Sully113 It really depends on how many places a school has over-offered by. My understanding is that schools do not start contacting families on the wait list until they know how many people have accepted and how many have released offers. Once they know that, they will then go to the wait list and you will have 24 hours to respond.

Yes, we got SPGS mail about an hour earlier. Good news!

Oh my gosh, congratulations to all, some more excellent results! @ColaPip your DD has done amazingly well!

Those on WL especially for Putney, several people on this thread are declining in favour of LEH or WHS so don’t lose hope.

I have just checked our post and DD also has an Emanuel offer. Totally shocked as I didn’t think that would happen. We will be releasing it straight away though.

To those on the PHS WL, I do know if a girl who received 2 scholarships there last year, but decided to go elsewhere in late June. So don’t lose hope!

xplus11 - if you’re missing an envelope from SPGS, call them. Or ask your primary / prep and they’ll tell you if it’s a case of missing post.

Congratulations on all the offers and WL places. Great news for so many - that's wonderful. Good luck to anyone making tricky decisions.
As Springboard says above, really hoping for good news for those with WL places as people start releasing the offers they don't want. Heard today that we are on the WL for our first choice school ... We are releasing an offer received today that we don't want to give others a chance there. Hope others will do the same. Have a nice half term.

We have received results from G&L and SPGS. We are very grateful for the offer from G&L, but it’s a no from SPGS!
