SW London girls independent/grammars thread 2020

Last year, there were two amazing threads which were super helpful about exactly this, so I wanted to start a thread for girls due to start September 2020. If anyone from last year wants to contribute please do!

We have narrowed our choices down to 5, sadly not in the right postcode for Tiffin, and decided not to do the Sutton grammars.

So, she will be doing PHS, WHS, LEH, SHS and Woldingham. Also registered for Emanuel but we may pull that one.

Not really on topic, but DS (doing the 9+) has got a firm offer from a prep school in our area! I’m so relieved as he hasn’t been heavily tutored like some other boys, and we don’t have the option of a state school as we’re moving back to SW London in the summer and all our local schools are full.

We’re flying home tomorrow, having done a combined 12 assessment days between DS and DD over the last 2 weeks. What a marathon. I’m very proud of them, they managed to stay mostly chilled throughout!

Well done to all those getting interviews at FHSS, KGS, SPGS and LEH. DD loved her interview at LEH last week, they did a great job of selling her the school (regardless of whether she gets an offer!).

Lurking for a bit here, deliberately kept myself offsite in the run up - but now all exams are done need something to keep me going through this godawful waiting. Dry January is not helping!

DD only did LEH, WHS and Surbiton, now wondering if should have done more but didn’t want to overload her.

Hey @chevronrosie and @autumnnightsaredrawingin my post used to arrive really early but it’s now not til mid morning cross fingers for all. DD really really loves LEH ....

Do LEH send out actual offer letters for today? That’s almost a month before other schools - how do they do it?

Unfortunately not! Just whether it’s an outright no or invited to interview .... hence the anxiety as really don’t want an outright no!!!

@Revolution, well done to your ds for his 9+ place! What an exhausting few weeks you must have had. Good luck to your dd, hope that she gets some good offers. At least it's all over for you now!

Yes exactly, just for interview, so ever more waiting even if positive news.

DS got in at 10+ to Hampton so this is first time going through the process properly. Dry January may reach an early conclusion.

Working today so my mum is going round at 1 to check post. Time is going so slowly!

@chevronrosie There seem to be quite a few Hampton siblings sitting at LEH this year .... wishfully hoping having a hampton sibling might hold some sway!

@Contessa28 do you have DS at Hampton too? Would be nice if they took that into account but suspect it makes bugger all difference!

Yes I do! Hence DD being so determined to go to LEH but the sheer numbers make it a lottery! Ditto re work ;)

Post arrived! Dd got an interview and a music audition at LEH. Phew!!!! She'll be so delighted. Good luck to all you others waiting.

Anyone know what an LEH interview is like? The letter says the interview will be of a general nature. Is she likely to have a maths problem to solve?

@chevronrosie and @Contessa28 I also have a son at Hampton. I recognised quite a few parents at the exam day. I put it on the form in the hope that it might make some difference... Hope you get good news in the post today 🤞🤞🤞

Well done @givemesomewineplease, fantastic news! Music audition too, she must be very talented.

LEH is first choice for DD and us but trying to manage expectations. I think she has a false sense of security as DS’s process was so straightforward and we kept things very low key in the run up to her exams. She has come out happy from all the assessments so far though not sure how much to read from that.

Have given up pretending to work and tidying my drawers instead!

We have received a no from LEH. I’m gutted for DD as I know she would have thrived at LEH like DS at Hampton but I’m aware of the sheer numbers applying. Clearly not right school for her in the end if they can’t see DD for who she is Good luck all

Oh no @Contessa28, I'm so dreadfully sorry to hear that. I'm sure your dd is equal to all those who got interviews, it's just one exam on one morning, which can't begin to measure a child's abilities, so much of it is luck and timing. I really hope she takes it ok. What other schools is she applying to?

The postman just came and dd has an interview at LEH. I am hugely relieved, but sad for those who didn't get through. This is such a harsh process for children.
