Private school fees north of England

I know these are likely to vary from
School to school but I am trying to put a plan in place and budget to try and send ds to a private secondary. The secondary schools here are awful, we have a few years to squirrel some money away and I could also go full time when he is in secondary to help pay for schooling. Could anyone give me a ball park termly fee? Thanks

Put town name + private school in Google and you'll get loads of information that's more relevant to you.

Circa 5k a term, plus extras. Does vary a bit from school to school.

So get him to learn the viola, then he'll likely attract a music scholarship.

Thanks, I have been looking on the websites and not finding much information. It’s the North West but I just meant not London or south east really as I know the cost will be higher there.

It's running at £12k a year here currently but more for the fanciest schools, a little less for others with less facilities.

When I was looking, admittedly a good few years ago now, it was between £3k and £5k p/term plus all the extras. That was north-ish Midlands area.

Leeds Grammar worth a look. Have friends whose children go and it's well loved. Not sure of fees but they are on website.

Lancaster Royal Grammar, no fee for day boys, need to pass 11plus or your son can board, flexible boarding is £50.00 a night. Consistently in Top school ranking.

I was just going to say the same - that all the fees are published on websites.
Also, just because you pay fees doesn't mean the school is great so you need to choose carefully. Some parents also choose to move into the catchment of a good state school so at least you're paying the mortgage and not school fees.

Which part of the north is that, my DBro sends 2 DC to private sschool, if he's paying £30k out of post tax earnings he must earn a lot more than I thought?

Very varied but 4-5K per term here as a day pupil.

In Sheffield we paid around £13500 a year at secondary.
At a different primary it was a little less a year, but that included meals.

Also - that's senior fees. Juniors are cheaper. And if your DNs have any sporting/musical/academic gifts, they could be getting a decent discount.

West Yorkshire ( not Leeds) about £12k per year

Year 7, North West, slightly under £6000 per term.

Bury Grammar £3600 per term in senior school. Less in junior's and kindergarten.

Kirkham Grammar School is £1200ish a year and AKS in Lytham a little bit more. The exact fees are on their websites though.

If the op was in the catchment for LRGS and her DS was likely of sufficient ability, that would be a no brainer - pretty much no one whose kid can get into LRGS or LGGS would choose private instead.

Bolton is reckoned to be a good school, 4K per term according to website www.boltonschool.org/how-to-join-us/fees/fees/

I'm shocked that parents have to pay for grammar school. I'm in Kent, and I don't think they do here.
