Private school fees north of England

I know these are likely to vary from
School to school but I am trying to put a plan in place and budget to try and send ds to a private secondary. The secondary schools here are awful, we have a few years to squirrel some money away and I could also go full time when he is in secondary to help pay for schooling. Could anyone give me a ball park termly fee? Thanks

Depends on age and stage of school. One local private high school was 16000PA, a decade ago.

I'm shocked that parents have to pay for grammar school. I'm in Kent, and I don't think they do here.

They don't. But there are very few state grammar schools left in the North West. Lancashire has just the boys and girls in Lancaster, Clitheroe and Bacup&Rawtenstall.

The boys grammar in Lancaster is unusual in that it has boarding, there are fees for that but much lower than private school boarding schools.

There are some private schools which are called eg Kirkham Grammar but they're not state Grammar Schools. (And there's a state school Hutton Grammar which is a Cof E comp.... I suppose it used to be a GS back in the day)

Kent is unusual in that its grammar schools stayed grammar schools, come to think. I expect most counties which are largely comprehensive have quite a lot of ex grammars which retained their historic name

My DD’s Private school has Grammar in its name but it’s fee paying and non selective, think it’s just historical

Gosh that's really unfair for Grammar Schools not in the SE.

If you are planning on moving away do you even need to pay for private education if you are in a catchment area of some really good state comprehensive schools? Or even state grammar schools?
