What phone plans are your DC on?

DD is starting secondary school this year. She has a phone and I topped it up with £10. Can I ask what phone plans are your secondary school DC on please? Is a PAYG sim ok for now? She WhatsApp’s primary school friends using WiFi at home. As of now, the phone is mainly for contact when I drop her off at activities.

We are on contract sim only...some very cheap deals out there with unlimited texts and phone calls and a good amount of data.

Giffgaff payg , £10 for unlimited calls/texts and 4gb data (I think). It seems to suit my daughter.

We bought her a Samsung a5 on music magpie.

Giffgaff £10 goody bag has gone up to 6GB this month btw. A year 7 won't need that much though.

Three are offering 8Gb for £9. Just google best sim only deals.

3 PAYG (3p per minute call, 2p per text, 1p per MB). They mostly use Wifi so very seldom spend more than £5 a month.

The Gigfgaff £12 one is now 10GB+1, they all increased a couple of weeks ago, but giffgaff don't seem to have told anyone!

Giffgaff for mine too, one has the £10 and one has the £8 as she doesn't use hers much.

They emailed me about the changes to data allowances a month or so ago.

Giffgaff until recently £7.50 went up to £8, now moved to the £10 as so much data comes with it. It's PAYG but you can set it to renew automatically so it is like a contract.

Try ID Mobile from car phone warehouse. I pay £5.00 a month for 2gb, 500 minutes and unlimited texts. Unused data rolls over each month and can put a cap of £5 on data if DS goes over his limit - which he doesn't but at least I know it will never be more than £10. Its an old plan but they do loads of other cheap ones from £3 specially for children.

I pay £58 a month for my phone plus 2 X DCs. £38 of that is my contract flashy pixel with unlimited calls and texts and 15gb data, their cheapy phones are an additional £10 each to share my data and get unlimited texts and calls. This is via EE. I have been wondering if Giffgaff would be cheaper and mean more data all round, but I rely on the contract deals to get new decent phones with the cost spread. Watching with interest.

We're all on VOXI SIM only deals- £10 per month for 6gb plus unlimited calls and data. However, they have a thing where using social media (which includes Watsapp) does not reduce your data at all.

13 year old ds1 is on payg. He's still using the £10 credit we bought him when we bought the phone 2 years ago.

Sky £6 per month. Think it’s 1 or 2GB of data so not much but it does roll over if she doesn’t use it. Unlimited calls and texts I think.
Got a cap on so she can’t go over the data allowance.
So far it’s been fine but obviously that might change at secondary. Still, I’m anticipating she’ll mainly use WiFi at home for internet access.
I do WhatsApp her but I guess if she has run out of data we can do old fashioned text messages instead.

We have a sim only deal and bought him a refurbished iPhone. The sim deal is £15 a month with 24GB and free calls etc. My DD has a sim deal at £11 a month for 22GB

We own handsets and have BT family SIMs which work out at about £10 for unlimited calls, texts and 10GB data per SIM.

I have limits on the DCs phone so they can't exceed the allowances, one always runs out of data the other never does.

Definitely look at Voki - it's for young people and from vodaphone. You can change the plan each month and really good value

We've given our boys a sim only deal with voxi. £10 a month for 6gb and unlimited calls and texts - and unlimited social media.

They basically use their phones for games when at home and for emergencies getting to and from school.

Our daughter starts secondary next week. We brought a sim only phone for her birthday and she is on a £10 a month plan with voxi. For this she is getting 8gb of data plus unlimited calls and texts. Recommend voxi.

Ours are on the Sky £6 sim only deal too. No need to pay any more than that for extra data imho.

Ds started secondary with a 2nd hand phone on PAYG (Tesco). It made him very good at making sure he was on (free) wifi - a good ongoing habit

He got topped up by me when he ran out - initially only £10 every couple of months or so.

He then went on to a £7.50/month contract - and then 2 years ago a contract with a phone (gets paid off next month ). As I'm the contract holder, I can see that he uses a fraction of his texts and minutes/month and only once in 2 years went over his (low) data allowance.

My Y7 DS is on the £6.50 giffgaff package. We bought the phone outright. Only just started secondary this week, so we'll see how it goes. Before that, he's only once run out of data and that was when we were on holiday and he didn't really understand about data vs WiFi.

DD on £6pm giffgaff - plenty enough as she uses the WiFi rather then mobile data.
