Sounds odd that you don't pay council tax? I don't understand how that is possible unless you are a student or something. Are you sure you have been given the correct information?

electricmoogaloo · 20/07/2019 15:02

Where are you registered on the electoral roll?

titchy · 20/07/2019 15:07

So you rent one place, and your kids stay at your dad's - is that it?

Leaving aside the issue about council tax - you need to pay it on where you rent, and the issue of why on Earth you rented somewhere not suitable for your kids, you need to write to the council asking if you should use your dad's address as this is where your dd lives. Get their response in writing. And transfer the CB to him if they're effectively living with him.

Nikkinkaci · 20/07/2019 15:07

Well thats what they said over the phone as im between 2 houses technically im not permanent anywhere 🤷🏻‍♀️ I made sure to ask as my dad gets a reduction for being on his own and i didnt want him in any trouble and as far as im aware iv never been on an electoral

I didnt rent anywhere unsuitable i rented my place 3 years ago with my now ex which is why my kids stay there in there own rooms, we didnt work out and i cant afford to run the house as we was both working and doesnt accept dss, so im going to find a property i can afford on my own

Just to clarify my kids dont live with my dad i stay there when tensions are too much... we are just trying to do the best for our kids under the curcumstances

Confused Your posts are really confusing. So your kids live in the place they've always lived in? Sometimes you go and stay with your dad? Does your ex still live in the place your kids live then?

TheBrockmans · 20/07/2019 15:18

So where do your dc sleep most nights and who is on the council tax at that address? Where do you think your dd will be sleeping most nights at the end of October? Who will be paying council tax at that address?

NerrSnerr · 20/07/2019 15:18

Where do you actually live (as in where you pay council tax, are on the electoral roll etc)

caughtinanet · 20/07/2019 15:20

I'm guessing you're in Scotland - is that right? In my area in England you don't need any proof of address or council tax to do an online school application.

Assuming your area is online application I'd start by setting up an account.

Nikkinkaci · 20/07/2019 15:21

Yes thats correct kids still live wit dad and i stay at dads most time due to arguments but am there every morning and take care if day to day needs

Do you mean your daughter has just left Year 6 and is due to start secondary in September, or that she'll be going into Year 6 in September?

Nearlyfriyay987654321 · 20/07/2019 15:30

Their secondary school will be based off
Dads address then? as they live there. Essentially it’s based off their permanent address so wherever child benefit is claimed for / benefits / doctors and dentist registration.
You paying council tax really doesn’t have anything to do with it?

AlunWynsKnee · 20/07/2019 15:30

Can't the dc's father apply if he's on the council tax bill?
If it is for this September and you're in England or Wales you might have a problem but I don't know about Scotland.

titchy · 20/07/2019 15:31

Then you use the address the kids live at - I.e. the place you and your ex live. You disappearing to your dad's when things get strained doesn't change anything.

Are you really saying neither you nor your ex pay council tax? Bloody pay it.

Not sure what the confusion is to be honest.

SavoyCabbage · 20/07/2019 15:32

I'm still lost.

Yes thats correct kids still live wit dad and i stay at dads most time due to arguments but am there every morning and take care if day to day needs.

So you mean the kids live in the home that you and your ex and the kids lived in, with their Dad and you sometimes live there but sometimes stay with your own Dad?

Or have I got completely the wrong end of the stick?

Nikkinkaci · 20/07/2019 15:33

He pays it actually! My name is not on it and i thought thats how they checked thats where the co fusion is...

OP posts:
NerrSnerr · 20/07/2019 15:34

Why isn't your name on it? Does that mean that he's getting the single person discount even though you live/ lived there? Are you on the electoral register?

titchy · 20/07/2019 15:35

Then he applies. Job done.

Nearlyfriyay987654321 · 20/07/2019 15:35

I read it as the kids live with their dad?

Nearlyfriyay987654321 · 20/07/2019 15:36

Who claims the CB and whose address are they registered at for docs and dentist OP?

Bringonspring · 20/07/2019 15:37

Their residency is their dads then as that is their permanent address

ChicCroissant · 20/07/2019 15:40

OP, do you mean that you need to apply in September/October for your DD to start secondary in September 2020?

It is usually done online via the Council and I didn't have to provide details of the Council Tax bill. If you live elsewhere maybe you do, but it's not a requirement I'm familiar with.

pikapikachu · 20/07/2019 16:45

Use the Dad's address as the kids live there on the majority of school nights. I assume that their current school, GP, dentist etc have that address.

pikapikachu · 20/07/2019 16:46

The application can be made by Dad (assuming that he has PR)
