Here we've had design and tech paper today, anyone else?

DS said it was quite hard

myrtleWilson · 24/05/2019 16:12

OCR classics myth and religion - not a happy bunny here - the worst I've seen her so far Sad

Fingers crossed all will be okay Molly - hope the weeks break does her good

myrtleWilson Sorry to hear that, and sad it comes just before the half term. OCR here too, but different subsections than your DD. DD2 second paper will be Roman City Life.

DD was generally happy, except she put Helen came from Troy instead of Sparta. She did say though that they had a question that no-one else could answer as it wasn't in their text book. She could answer it, but only because she had read Mary Beards SPQR - not great when the board puts something in a paper that isn't in the text book Hmm

myrtleWilson · 24/05/2019 17:05

I know - ended on a bit of a downer... RCL is her second paper too so hopefully she'll do marvellously well on that one... (crosses everything!)

Am glad Women in the Ancient World went well for your DD....

Have a great half term everyone! Thank you for the chat and the support as we finished the first half... Wine Cake Flowers Gin Brew all round

My daughter did OCR Latin Culture today and was hoping, based on previous papers, that it would be quite straightforward and the easiest of the three Latin papers. However, didn't go to plan - much more difficult than expected with a topic that they hadn't covered in school - a whole section on tricliniums (!) which she had to guess at.

She's convinced she's failed now as she found the Language paper difficult too, and she needs at least a 6 in Latin to stay and do IB at her school next year. This whole process is so stressful for them, wish there was still an element of coursework involved.

myrtleWilson · 24/05/2019 17:31

oh no user that sounds tough too...fingers crossed for your DD.

DD has fallen asleep on the sofa. Never in 16 years have I seen this happen!

Edexel business studies hete today.
Got a "good" which is positive .
Actually that could mean anything.
I think the last time he looked at those books was his last BS lesson !

This is his "default" choice...which he gave up on 3 weeks into year10 !

bizzey · 24/05/2019 17:36

Yep ..ds is asleep as well !

bizzey · 24/05/2019 17:39

Sorry ..meant to have asked any one else for Edexel Buisness ?

DeRigueurMortis · 24/05/2019 17:42

Myrtle DS has crashed out in his room so similar experience here. Sorry to hear the last exam before the break was tough.

I think they are just mentally exhausted (late night cramming after papergate last night didn't help though in this household).

Initially I was worried that the half term break would make it worse (dragging it out and loss of momentum) but tbh I think it's a godsend.

DS has said he's not doing anything even vaguely educational until Monday Grin

steppemum · 24/05/2019 17:44

ds did business and DT today,
I think it was AQA, but it might have been edexcel, I can't keep up which is which.

He came out very happy with both.
DT is now finished, and after the exam they were told what they got for their practical (50%) Ds spent most of the run up to exams desperately making his folder, as he discovered from a student in another class that they had LOADS of things that ds class hadn't got. He actually handed it on the morning of his first exam, so we were tearing our hair out that not much revision was happening for anything else.
He did really really well, over 90%. I don't think he can quite believe it.
So that was a positive note to head into half term with.

Flowers fro all those who have had a bad week, hope everyone has a good break over half term
x

D0ubleTheJoy · 24/05/2019 18:14

Edexcl DT today, DS came home and said "it was bad" then crashed out in his room. Oh dear. How do you console them, after all their hard work? Sad

pikapikachu · 24/05/2019 18:19

Anybody do OCR Psychology today? Dd was pretty happy with it.

SilentSister · 24/05/2019 18:22

Weekend off planned here as well. Drama tomorrow, then going up the M1 to see GP's. Got to organise prom dress alterations sometime next week too, otherwise we'll run out of time, and DD will be tripping over her dress, she is very short Grin.

Have a lovely break everyone.

readyforsunshine · 24/05/2019 18:52

OCR business here then AQA DT, which she said was very ‘businessy’!
Happy half term everyone Smile

Iambuffy · 24/05/2019 18:55

Dont think ds will be doing much this weekend

myrtleWilson · 24/05/2019 19:00

She's awake! Hurrah. Not much planned here this weekend.... She's asked for a cheeky Nando's for lunch tomorrow, I think I'll oblige....

AQA DT was not as expected but DS thinks it went fine. There was a question on designer collaboration which caused some discussion on the bus home he says. A lot of stuff he prepared for never came up either. Oh well half term came quickly Confused

Iambuffy · 24/05/2019 20:04

Ds is revising this weekend apparently!

Hes had 2 nights "off:

whojamaflip · 24/05/2019 20:34

Ds was pleasantly surprised by dt and thinks he's done ok.

Having the next 2 days off to help bring the silage in on the farm then planning to get back to the books for the rest of the week in between shearing and a day climbing with his mates in the Peak District.

KittyMcKitty · 24/05/2019 20:52

DS did AQA DT today - I guess as it was the first year of it in the reformed spec it was something of an unknown.

There school hasn’t really taught them theory (other then isometric drawings and such like) but told them what they should learn.

Anyway ds thought it went well so fingers crossed. He was far more pre occupied with trying to buy tickets to see Tyler, the Creator this morning- apparently it was mega stressful and they sold out in seconds- anyway he was lucky to get some!

Relieved it’s half term - still got 2x history, 2 x maths, 2 x Geography, 2 x Eng Lang and the 3 science paper 2’s - sigh - it’s a slog!

Hi everyone, pretty easy week for ds, maths and physics only and broke up for a week yesterday.
There were rumours of study leave for after half term ( especially considering the school bus has now stopped Angry ) but ds has confirmed that it isn't happening and he's happy with that.

He went out with his friends to the Astro pitch after school to play football and came home for pizza and Ben and Jerrys which I was happy to facilitate as he's been on a very strict diet for the last year on SW and lost 6st. He was very overweight to begin with and now looks bloody amazing and is so much fitter and happier. He has a treat night every week on a Thursday after being weighed but this week he had an extra one and I think he deserved it!

Sorry for going off on a tangent there, it's just been a hard slog and I'm glad he's seemingly relaxed and able to enjoy a few goodies, he's got amazing willpower unlike his mummy Grin

Love to all. Have a great weekend.

readyforsunshine · 25/05/2019 06:44

Well done him zoflora that’s really impressive! Can he give me any tips? Grin

Lelelel26 · 25/05/2019 07:32

Zoflora he’s done amazing there Smile
