Welcome all - just went to post on thread 2 and saw it was at 999 so quickly did this

Molly - your poor dd. Hope she doesn't have exams today and can have a break, and that you get some clarification about how it will be dealt with.

readyforsunshine · 24/05/2019 08:08

Business & DT today then we are halfway through. Nothing planned for half term but inspired by pointy to make a day trip to the seaside, haven’t been for so long!

myrtleWilson · 24/05/2019 08:15

Classics (myth and religion) this afternoon. Weirdly DD is good at the analysis type questions but cannot retain key facts - Hercules is a nightmare and I think she'll be cramming temples right up until the last minute Smile

Well ds breaks up today thank goodness.

Good luck to all doing exams today and thinking of your dd molly

Oh that's ridiculous. Of course one of the kids could have put their hand up and pointed, and I'd hope any of my children would do that.

My son was nowhere near her, he only found out after the exam.

But the invigilator definitely should have noticed - if I were her parent I'd be furious and complaining to school that the invigilator clearly wasn't doing their job properly.

Seriously ? - don't you think that it's the kids responsibility to stay awake. Unless she had some kind of health issues, which she doesn't.

SilentSister · 24/05/2019 09:46

myrtleWilson - Yay, someone else who is doing Classics. DD has Women in the Ancient World this pm. Quiet anxious about this one, as it is one of her chosen ALevels too. Good luck to all.

myrtleWilson · 24/05/2019 10:32

DD considered A level classics but the curriculum wasn't the most interesting so isn't pursuing... I was a tad gutted as I did Latin and Ancient History as part of my A levels but even I was meh about the curriculum they're doing here.

Business went well, straightforward questions but pushed for time.
Only 1 more to go woo hoo!!

Iambuffy · 24/05/2019 11:14

Oh, I'd have LOVED to have done classics!

SunshineInMySprocket · 24/05/2019 11:19

So pleased that DS has a break for the next 11 days. He has been out to play basketball and is now staring at the ceiling in his room. He even casually mentioned that he would like to get back into reading this summer, which is fab.

Hope everyone’s children enjoy the break! I’m particularly happy not to have to do any carpooling logistics for a few days.

Luciaia · 24/05/2019 11:24

Dd currently panic revising as has changed her mind on previous decision to ignore economics as ‘most of it is logic and it’s too boring’, currently pacing around the house saying lots of words that remind me too much of bills

Luciaia · 24/05/2019 11:27

Poor girl who fell asleep :( Must have been so disappointed and shock when waking up but agree that blame cannot really be placed on invigilator, it’s just one of those things

Luciaia · 24/05/2019 11:28

*shocked

KittyMcKitty · 24/05/2019 11:52

That’s not the invigilators job. They could tell her to sit up but really anything more is giving instruction to the candidate.

It is the candidates responsibility- many students choose to sleep in exams - many choose not to write anything or write very little. Ultimately it is their choice.

Maybe it is a parents responsibility to ensure their children get adequate sleep before sitting public exams?

KittyMcKitty · 24/05/2019 11:56

Oh that's ridiculous. Of course one of the kids could have put their hand up and pointed, and I'd hope any of my children would do that

I would hope all students are focusing on their own papers and not looking around (against the rules) at what others are doing. Another student is not their business or their responsibility.

Invigilators are not allowed to give any advice or guidance- verbal or non verbal. To fall asleep I’m assuming she put her head down on the table- it is really sad but assuming no health issue that was her choice.

TeenTimesTwo · 24/05/2019 12:13

How would an invigilator know who was asleep v someone who had collapsed? I would have assumed it would be part of the invigilator's responsibilities to check that, and to check the pupil would have to be woken.

Hope all your DCs get some rest and also do some revision over half term. You're half way through now anyway. (No GCSEs at mine this year).

HardAsSnails · 24/05/2019 12:26

As Teen says, what if the child had collapsed, was in severe pain, dead FFS? Surely an invigilator would check on an inert child?

KittyMcKitty · 24/05/2019 12:34

I’ve had students faint, vomit and all sorts in exams (and yes of course an invigilator would check on them and remove them from hall etc as appropriate). This is all rather catasrophising as we’ve now got to dead children Confused. I’ve seen many children sleep in exams sometimes for 30 seconds sometimes for longer and they look very different from an unwell child and are certainly not inert!! None us us were in the exam and none of us know what happened-,not even the posters son who was in the same exam but didn’t see the girl. The girl was obviously well enough to take the exam and chose to go to sleep beyond that no one can comment.

MollyButton · 24/05/2019 13:04

Thanks for all your thoughts. It was Eng Lit so she should get a grade just based on the first paper.
She was thrown when she accidentally went to the "wrong" exam venue.
It does help that the GP has a history of her anxiety, so there are records to call on.
Today's went okay (And was "easy").

But she was exhausted yesterday and is still wobbly. Hopefully a weeks break (just revision) should give her time to recover.

Iambuffy · 24/05/2019 13:11

That's an encouraging update molly

DeRigueurMortis · 24/05/2019 13:31

molly fingers crossed for you Thanks

Michaelahpurple · 24/05/2019 15:55

Did anyone's DC take Educas religion and do the Islam paper. I gather that at DC'a school there was some perturbation about the paper referring to Ibrahim instead of Abraham which apparently they had never come across before. (Also the angel Mikael

Curious if others doing it were expecting that.

DeRigueurMortis · 24/05/2019 16:04

Economics AQA went well today.

DS was very happy with the big 15 mark question. Said there was lots to write about.

Happy half term break everyone!

TeenTimesTwo · 24/05/2019 16:07

Oh that's interesting Michael.
I have just this week done some revision cards for DD2 y9, based on the revision guide, and asked her whether she needed the Arabic names for things. She said no, but I think I'd better keep them in in that case!
