Welcome all - just went to post on thread 2 and saw it was at 999 so quickly did this

OP posts:

Why is that, as a mother, when one hears "maths was fine - I had time to do it twice", rather being pleased, one immediately starts wondering if the child missed some pages out....

(Not showing off - maths is his strongest - his commentary on french listening and all the english was x rated)

LostSoul69 · 21/05/2019 17:46

Just spoken to DS and he said Geography was good and that Maths (iGCSE) wasn't nearly as bad as he thought it was going to be, he said some of the practise papers were harder so fingers x he did OK. Maths is def his weakest subject so praying for a 6.

Iambuffy · 21/05/2019 18:02

Ds days aqa maths (higher) was ok. He said the first 20 questions were ok. Last 8 were "a bitch" (his words!)

Geography was also "ok". He was glad I went over volcano types last night.

Hard to get much more out of him.

DeRigueurMortis · 21/05/2019 18:05

Michael DS said pretty much the same. When he said he had time to go back to the "tricky" question he had 45 mins left.

He's also clarified "tricky" - apparently he thought of 2 ways to answer it and was pondering if they were looking for one way over another.

So if it's one of his strongest subjects (as it is for my DS) I think you're safe that he hasn't skipped any pages 😂 though you're reaction totally resonated with me!!!

Well ds came in and just crashed out on his bed,so i just left him !

He came down later and made himself a cup of tea ...with 3 large sugars !!
But i dont think now is the right time to do the chat on healthy sugar intake 🤣🤣

Told his brother that it was fine but the last 5 were hard.
I am presuming the last 5 questions were to "cut the wheat from the sharft" and were for the 7s/8s/9s .?

Would like a 6 but right now a 5 would be a bloody miracle!.

bizzey · 21/05/2019 18:28

He is doing physics , ds1 has 1st A level tomorrow ans ds3 is cooking dinner.

So i am letting them all get on with it without me!

bizzey · 21/05/2019 18:33

Should say ds2 isn't actually talking to me right now .
We had words last night (and maybe a few other nights !!)
I think my help/concern/support has come across as naggy and not believing in him Sad

Greeborising · 21/05/2019 18:41

bizzey I have been taught to keep my neb out!
It’s so hard not to get involved but I’ve found with dd it’s best to let her get on with it.
The one thing I’ve been really strict about is bedtime, I’ve seriously got up her nose since the exams started but I don’t care!
She seems to be doing ok, but, of course who can say until the results ?
Good luck!

Powergower · 21/05/2019 18:46

Ds said aqa maths higher was hard but he thinks he did ok. He said he did one really hard question 3 times but couldn't get the right answer. He's revising physics now. Well I say revising.... He's say on his bed checking his phone.

pikapikachu · 21/05/2019 18:46

Dd said that Edexcel Maths was pretty straightforward. It's one of her strongest subjects so this is good.

She wasn't so confident about Geography though as she feels like she didn't use enough technical terms in her answers.

DeRigueurMortis · 21/05/2019 18:58

Oh Bizzey it's tough :-(

DS is on a high tonight after maths, but after English Lit last week there was nothing I could say to him that he decided to turn into a negative.

In the end I just let him have some space until he "angsted" (yes I know it's not a word but it's how best to describe it) himself out of it.

Crikeyblimey · 21/05/2019 19:23

Ds said maths was good but it is one of his stingray subjects.

Geography was ‘ok’ which for him means good (not a strong subject). He got a date of a volcano wrong but was otherwise happy with his answer.

He also forgot the correct term for ‘bin juice’ apparently but thankfully didn’t call it bin juice!!

Hey ho - every day is closer to the end.

steppemum · 21/05/2019 19:31

ds was pleased with his maths, (Edexcel) but it is his strongest subject.
I asked him about the hard question at the end someone had mentioned, he couldn't get an answer but thought he had done enough working to get a good % of marks.

He also had geog, and was pretty pleased with it.

I am very relieved, we have had a difficult weekend, and wasn't sure how he was doing.

Thanks everyone for all the comments, as I don't get anything out of ds, but when I say - I heard there was a hard question at the end??? Then suddenly he starts talking.

Greeborising · 21/05/2019 19:38

I’m watching MN every day and passing on tips and comments to dd.
She loves it!
It also makes me feel ‘I am not alone’!

cptartapp · 21/05/2019 19:55

Edexcel Maths higher paper was ok here, although he's doubtful he got many marks from a few at the end but had a bit of a go. Non-calc is his weakest Maths and hoping for at least a 7 to go on to do A level.
Geog was great though.
He's just dropped his phone in the bath now so all revision has come to a halt whilst he panics about sorting that out now. I despair!

Crikeyblimey · 21/05/2019 20:10

I’ve just spotted my typo! Maths is not a stingray subject although that could be fun.
Strongest was the word I intended! 🤣

Greeborising · 21/05/2019 20:10

Pop the phone into a bowl of dried rice 😉

Greeborising · 21/05/2019 20:11

Stingray worked for me!😂

triggers34 · 21/05/2019 20:14

I've been lurking and wondered if I could join. Dad did edexel maths today - she thought it went well however has heard it was leaked on twitter prior to the exam and is worried she may have to resit. Has anyone else heard this? Geography was awful she didn't have enough time and missed loads of questions.

triggers34 · 21/05/2019 20:14

Dd oops

Greeborising · 21/05/2019 20:21

Hi triggers
I’ve heard the ‘leak’ is a hoax
It was old papers

onaroll · 21/05/2019 20:24

Been a quiet lurker on this thread but I'd like to join in please.
My Dd sat her edexcel (H) maths today - she wrote me out the 2nd from last question- photo attached ( excuse writing).
I'm glad it was her not me that sat it - maths is not my strong point.
Physics tomorrow .
So far she has been calm and feels okay about the exams - which has more than surprised us, stress & being overly self critical have been a theme since the start of Yr 10. School have set her high predictions and shes determined not to 'fail'.

👋 onaroll!

Rugbylife · 21/05/2019 20:28

Ds a bit snappy tonight, said maths went ok and he’s got physics tomorrow which is his worst science so he’s dropped to foundation paper, he’s confident of getting C ( still letters here). He’s flagging tonight and tired, only 4 more to go after half term.
