Dd is snuggled up on her bed revising still wearing her mucky jods (just came in from her Saturday job), a hoodie, slippersocks, and she is surrounded by our two lurchers (one of which is a cracking book holder, the other provides moral support apparently!)

Powergower · 19/05/2019 01:43

Ds has been on a real go slow since Thursday. He's exhausted and I've been trying to get him motivated again! What a bloody rollercoaster.....

Danced til midnight....

Everything hurts and I'm dying....

Dd seems ok, energy wise. It helps that she has her dpony to look after so twice last week she has gone out for a gentle ride in the woods to clear her head and remind herself there is life outsite GCSEs.

Her school won't start study leave until after half term so she has had to go in this past week and will next week. Luckily most teachers are flexible and allowing them to revise for whichever exam they have next. Dd is enjoying these whole class revision sessions but can't wait to be able to revise to her own timetable, in her own room, at her own pace.

behindlocknumbernine · 19/05/2019 07:48

Nice one buffy!
I fell asleep in front of Eurovision.
Sadly I therefore missed The Netherlands winning, first win since 1975. (I am Dutch, hence my excitement)

Iambuffy · 19/05/2019 07:56

(Hobbles about...)

Openupyourmind · 19/05/2019 08:02

Dh is helping the kids with their physics - it's the one that they are most worried about - both of them really hate it, which seems weird as dh and I both did it to A level! I really hate that they can't choose a science they enjoy - no doubt they'll change the rules in a few years time - they usually do - these things go in fashions.

Ds has asked for help revising lit poems. Does anyone know any good online resources? He's doing the love poems and has done very little revision as he finds them really boring. I've had a look at them but we don't have much time and was wondering if anyone had any advice for quick revision tips?

chocolateworshipper · 19/05/2019 11:03

open it's bound to happen soon. You were allowed to choose when I did mine - I simply asked the science teacher which was the easiest and went with that!

DD is feeling pretty fed up but has done some RS revision with me. Her Maths tutor comes on Monday which is great timing with the first Maths exam being on Tuesday. Good luck to everyone for the coming week.

OddBoots · 19/05/2019 12:11

There was no choice back when I took my GCSEs, we didn't even get a choice of how many GCSEs worth, everyone did double combined. I'm not sure if there has been a point between the mid 90s and now when you could drop one or more sciences.

Openupyourmind · 19/05/2019 12:13

I think some kids do it by doing triple and not doing any work for the science they hate - I wasn't keen on this approach but I can see its merits now.

noidea02 · 19/05/2019 12:29

Yes I think that's my DCs tactic open. The problem is it will probably mean a failed GCSE as unlikely to even scrape a 4 with no revision. It would be way more sensible to be able to pick and chose how many you want to do

chocolateworshipper · 19/05/2019 12:32

odd I did O levels Blush

Openupyourmind · 19/05/2019 12:49

I did GCSEs and we pretty much got to choose whatever we wanted.

Openupyourmind · 19/05/2019 13:07

@noidea02 they only look at the top 8 GCSE results so it hopefully won't matter.

noidea02 · 19/05/2019 13:13

Open - only doing 9 so I hope the others are all passes then! Who is it that looks at the to 8? Universities?

pointythings · 19/05/2019 13:22

behindlocknumbernine I'm Dutch too! DDs and I watched the whole thing, it was awesome. I'd have been happy with Norway winning too, but the Dutch song was a belter.

DDs not doing much revision today. I'm going to leave them to it and not nag - they both have revision sessions at school and these tend to be really excellent.

Ds1 seems to turn into gremlin after midnight! 😳🙄😩

He's carving up atm and is then going to hit the books.

Last night he got chatting to my friend who is a senior English gcse examiner and she's told him to text/face time her with any eng lang questions!!!

Eng lang is harder for him, oddly, than lit.

myrtleWilson · 19/05/2019 13:47

Was your mom dancing as good as Michelle's iambuffy ? Grin

RS for us on Monday - Judaism. Its DD's best subject but it has been ages since she did revision/work on Judaism so am hoping there is a lot of muscle memory there...
