campion reign supreme is correct.

cakeallday · 20/04/2019 07:18

Genuine question because I might be missing something.

Why hen doo? Not hen do? I keep seeing it written down with two 'o's on the end...

"Your 40th doo". "My wedding doo".

Goposie · 20/04/2019 07:25

I am excited for you - fine
I am excited for Christmas - no you are not

lotusbell · 20/04/2019 07:30

@SparklesandFlowers, yes! "Can I lend that book?"
"No, I will lend it, you can borrow it"

iklboo · 20/04/2019 07:36

'I won him at Monopoly'

That's nice, dear. Which shelf are you going to put him on?

lotusbell · 20/04/2019 07:38

"I seen this dress in a shop".

DeadWife · 20/04/2019 10:19

"You did amazing"

Someone save the adverb from this onslaught?

Possessive apostrophes. They're everywhere, are added for no apparent reason: the bishop's sat down. The bishop's what sat down, whaaaaaaaaaaat? Someone tell meeeeeeee.

thenightsky · 20/04/2019 11:50

TikkaMoSalah 'for free' winds me up no end too. I'm sure it used to be just 'free' or 'free of charge'.

Isthisafreename · 20/04/2019 20:44

Recommend me a book.

I've only ever come across it on mn though.

campion · 20/04/2019 23:01

MargotLovedTom1 Oops! Mea culpa. Guilty as charged, M'Lud.

Aimily · 20/04/2019 23:07

So glad I found this thread! A lot of my bugbears have been mentioned already.

Anyways, where did the s come from?

You make an enquiry into services and an inquiry into what happened.

OneMoreForExtra · 20/04/2019 23:18

Launching a new initiative.

Well now. If you're initiating it, it must be new, mustn't it...? So no need to say it every sodding time, BBC and all politicians.

OneMoreForExtra · 20/04/2019 23:18

Think I'll have an expresso

mushymush · 21/04/2019 00:08

Those trousers over their are not there's.
Your welcome.

Another one is mixing up UK and US spellings - totally get that they are confusing as we are used to seeing both all the time. BUT in UK English, you practise something but do a lot of practice, whereas in US English, you practice something and also do a lot of practice. Confoozing.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 21/04/2019 08:10

@OneMoreForExtra Yes!!!!! I feel the same about "forward planning" and the "exact same" (Hotel flipping Trivago advertisements).

cathay123 · 21/04/2019 08:23

'Off of' is wrong isn't it? Our local radio station is always talking about traffic coming off of the A33 and it drives me mad.

Also the addition of 'what'. As in 'Our spelling is better than what it used to be.'

Both these are so common where I live that I'm not sure what is right or wrong now!

But the latest thing round here is 'done' being used for everything. She done the drawing, he done the cooking, I done it last night...

StationView · 21/04/2019 08:50

Babies are grizzy, not grisly.

OneMoreForExtra I recently corrected a good friend who described something as a small microcosm Blush. Luckily, he took it well.

TwitterQueen1 · 21/04/2019 14:35

Station you missed out the 'l' - babies are grizzly as in grizzly bears....

StationView · 21/04/2019 17:38

Oh, the shame, the shame Blush! I could of sworn I'd checked it so carefully, two.

TwitterQueen1 · 21/04/2019 18:06

Life is just too full of would ofs, should ofs, could ofs.... Wink

Lobsterquadrille2 · 22/04/2019 03:54

My bad.

It makes me feel murderous.

claraschu · 22/04/2019 05:12

The nob (rich person) is behaving like a knob (dick).

You implied that I was a knob, so I inferred that you loathed me.

Dhalandchips · 22/04/2019 05:38

My daughter's school planner talks about 'discrete' hair adornments. I have made the head teacher aware Grin
