Appealing a conviction - surely it should be appealing against - or is it just MYSELF that thinks that?

A question mark unnecessarily at the end of a sentence. Just because a sentence contains a query word it does not mean that it is a question.

DeadWife · 19/04/2019 06:50

Lots of womAn feel this way, just ask MySELF.

DeadWife · 19/04/2019 06:52

Just BEEN honest.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 19/04/2019 07:33

How are you?
I'm good.

Good at what?!

jeanne16 · 19/04/2019 07:33

Saying a large AMOUNT of people when it should be a large NUMBER of people.

Hollowvictory · 19/04/2019 08:22

Casting nasturtiums popped up last week

Absolutepowercorrupts · 19/04/2019 08:29

Going against the grain.

LuckyMarmiteLover · 19/04/2019 08:31

He text me last week TEXTED
She gifted me GAVE

Stiffasaboard · 19/04/2019 08:31

This thread is making me anxious.

And no doubt that is written wrongly.

I have a medical degree but still find some of this grammer difficult to get right.

What is incorrect about en route? I used that last week on a medical forum and now think everyone would have been laughing at me.

Me, I, myself still troubles me.

I desperately want to get all this correct especially when writing to patients or other professionals but I know I must make some terrible grammatical faux pas. Blush

EdWinchester · 19/04/2019 08:31

casting nasturtiums?

😮

EdWinchester · 19/04/2019 08:34

There is nothing wrong with ‘en route’.

It’s grammAr btw. Wink

SparklesandFlowers · 19/04/2019 08:35

I asked for a lend of something from my friend.

Argh!

Singlenotsingle · 19/04/2019 08:38

"It belongs to you and I". (Cliff singing on the radio)
It doesn't! It belongs to you and me!

Hollowvictory · 19/04/2019 08:38

When I offer a colleague a cup of tea she says 'I'm good thanks'🙄

Medicaltextbook · 19/04/2019 08:38

Stiffasaboard
I agree, stay away from pedants corner. My spelling and grammar did not get corrected in middle school when we started using a lot of the words and grammar that seems to annoy other MNetters.

S

Medicaltextbook · 19/04/2019 08:39

Stray S there because I’m on my phone.

daisypond · 19/04/2019 08:44

En mass.

missmouse101 · 19/04/2019 08:48

OP, your right. It really annoy's me to.

Mamaof2cuties · 19/04/2019 08:48

Stiffasaboard not sure what to say but the thread is tongue in cheek. Apologies for making you feel anxious. I'd think we all make mistakes, grammatical/spelling/other sometimes.

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/04/2019 08:52

Get off of the train

missmouse101 · 19/04/2019 08:58

@Stiffasaboard, en route is correct. People sometimes write on route which is infuriating. With me/I, for example, 'Jackie and I are going out' is correct. (Check it by asking yourself would I say I am going out, or me is going out?)

Another example, 'The raffle prize was for me and my sister. (Again, check by thinking would I say the prize was for me or the prize was for I?)

TheFrendo · 19/04/2019 10:04

Can I get a ...

No. No.

May I have a...

iklboo · 19/04/2019 10:15

I'm not sure why exactly but Sir Alan's 'most amount of money' really grates with me. Shouldn't it just be 'the team who makes the most money?'

daisypond · 19/04/2019 10:18

“Didn’t used to” is correct, though it can be “didn’t use to”. It’s not a normal past tense verb and doesn’t behave like one.
“ The most common negative form of used to is didn't used to (or didn't use to)” - Collins English Dictionary

Lobsterquadrille2 · 19/04/2019 10:18

I dislike "more superior to ....". Surely superior is already a comparative?
