Anyone else doing Jane Eyre?

Should be finishing English soon. Wine

mcmen71 · 15/05/2019 15:05

My dd is y11 so only a few this year how many subjects have foundation
My dd told me yest it was only science and others are higher unless you doing technical course.

ILoveYou3000 · 15/05/2019 15:10

My daughter just rang, says it went well, best English Lit ones she's done. She feels really confident with the Macbeth question, a little less so with Sign of the Four but still feels she did well 🤞🏼

Chemistry tomorrow, and they were asked to stay behind 3-5, but my daughter says she finds it easier to revise at home without distractions. She asked her teacher if there were any materials she could take with her, the teacher basically said if she didn't stay after school she was on her own and not allowed any materials to help. I honestly can't wait until she's done with that school!

MaddieElla · 15/05/2019 15:16

Oh dear. Romeo and Juliet, good. Jane Eyre, very very bad. Confused

OhFFSMary · 15/05/2019 15:32

Anyone hear about Pride and Prejudice yet?

Iambuffy · 15/05/2019 15:45

Ds1 very meh about PE but eng lit went well he thinks.

Good questions on context on both texts.

Iambuffy · 15/05/2019 15:46

He's always found paper 1 of pe harder for some reason.

readyforsunshine · 15/05/2019 15:48

Hello👋 Latecomer although I was here 2 years ago with dad.
Very different experience in this house this time as dd actually revised😁
maddiella Jane Eyre & Much Ado here, still waiting to hear how it went

gleegeek · 15/05/2019 15:57

Dd and her friend are home. Pretty happy with the exam - both questions on main characters which is good. Although now I'm thinking the grade boundaries are going to be high so i guess our dc will probably find their natural position.
Glad to be getting through them. It's going to be a long slog!

myrtleWilson · 15/05/2019 15:59

Macbeth question was okay, Christmas Carol was dull - there's only so many times you can muster up enthusiasm to write about them ghosts! 😂

Lifeandbeans · 15/05/2019 16:04

myrtleWilson Thank you! Stupid things you end up worrying about Blush

Yes Greeborising basically my DD has Sen and is sitting foundation in all those exams where foundation is available.
It's an easier paper but they can only get as high as a 5 I believe where are they can get to a 9 on the 'normal' paper.

Zoflorabore · 15/05/2019 16:12

Life

Ds sat the foundation paper and the beta blockers question was on that.
Weird you mentioned your friend whose dc sat the exam at home, that's how I found out about there being problems with the paper. Do your friend and her dc have names that start with E by any small chance?!

What date do everyone's dc finish?

Ds's last exam is Psychics paper 2 on Friday June 14th. His best friend is the Monday after as he has German. They're both so stressed but will cry like babies walking out the gate for the last time Grin

MaddieElla · 15/05/2019 16:13

Readyforsunshine, glad there's another Jane Eyre in here, doesn't seem to be a common choice. DD just said the questions were vague.

Zoflorabore · 15/05/2019 16:14

Lol at Psychics Blush

Iambuffy · 15/05/2019 16:15

I think foundation is the default/normal paper iyswim?

At ds1s school the DC had to achieve a certain grade or they wouldn't be put forward for the higher tier.

Greeborising · 15/05/2019 16:20

I’d rather do a psychic paper meself 😁

readyforsunshine · 15/05/2019 16:24

Maddie Ella Dd hated Jane Eyre, maybe why it’s an uncommon choice! eng lit one of her least favourite subjects, hopefully it’s gone ok. Is your dd fairly relaxed?

Bimkom · 15/05/2019 16:32

DS felt that the AQA questions (Macbeth and Jekyll) were almost the easiest they could have chosen. Although he thinks that is because last year tjhe questions were too hard and obscure, and they couldn't distinguish amongst the weaker candidates with a hard question. With an easy question, the weaker candidates can write something, and the stronger candidates can write move and better. He says he couldn't have asked for better questions (and, glancing at the Romeo and Juliet question - as he has friends from primary school sitting that- it was very similar, a reasonably straightforward question on a main character). It probably does mean that grade boundaries will be high - but it means that even weaker candidates will have something to write, and show what they do know, so I think it is likely to be a win all round.

Bimkom · 15/05/2019 16:33

more - I now I typo all over the place, but mostly I figure they make sense anyway - but I do mean more rather than move.

KittyMcKitty · 15/05/2019 16:36

Ds has done AQA Eng Lit (Macbeth & J&H) - English is one of his best subjects (predicted a 9 but I think that’s a bit optimistic). He thought it was great and is v happy.

I’ve just invigilated Edexcel Eng Lit & PE so all go in our house!!

Iambuffy · 15/05/2019 16:38

They are the ones ds has done today kitty!

KittyMcKitty · 15/05/2019 16:40

Iambuffy how did he find them? Hope all went well.

Iambuffy · 15/05/2019 16:45

PE very meh.

Happier with eng lit. Context is his "thing"

myrtleWilson · 15/05/2019 16:46

DD was rather hoping for Macbeth question on morality and ACC on poverty. She's planning to do RS, Philosophy and Ethics, English Lit and Politics at A-level so subconsciously wishing for morality and poverty questions means the A level choices are a good fit I suppose Grin

MaddieElla · 15/05/2019 16:50

Sunshine, my DD didn't like Jane Eyre either. Which I was disappointed about as it's my favourite book.

She was expecting this to be her weakest exam so she's not downbeat, but I do think she thought she'd do better. I've told her to move on and concentrate on chemistry tomorrow which is her favourite/most important subject.
