Ds1 and i tried to play it "cool" when hf came home .
Real quotes .
Ds1 "how did it go bro"
Ds2 " cool ..it was easy ...but i missed out the 2 "5"markers in the middle because i needed time to think what i need to write ..
was going to go back at the end . But did not have time .
Oh and did not finish my 2 "15" markers either "
I bit my tongue before i wanted to say
" no wonder it was easy ...you only did 1/2 a flippin exam !! "🤣

marmiteloversunite · 13/05/2019 20:01

Anyone else's D.C. finding Jekyll and Hyde quotes horrible to learn? There just seem to be so many themes and the quotes are long and wordy! Not sure how DD is going to retain them.

Iambuffy · 13/05/2019 20:08

Yes.
J&H is the one ds1 has problems with

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 13/05/2019 20:12

Yes, ds loathes them marmite. He hates the book full stop, really (not sure I blame him). Unfortunately he's recently taken the view that he did okay in his mocks 'without using a single quote' - aaargh!

I've given up, really - I've been suggesting for months that he writes out the quotes on flashcards - he's done a few but I don't think he's looked at them since he wrote them... and is now moaning that he can't remember them

Ah well, Eng Lit is the important one and that should be a shoo-in tbh famous last words

God, is it over yet??

chocolateworshipper · 13/05/2019 20:13

DD is not aiming to get English Lit - there is no way on this planet she is capable of remember quotes from 3 books/play and a heap of poems. We are playing a very tactical game - we reserved her capacity for remembering stuff for RS.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 13/05/2019 20:13

Oh bizzey sorry but that did make me laugh Grin

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 13/05/2019 20:14

Sorry I meant Eng Lang is the important one!

Oh bizzey! 🙄

Afraid pe and eng lit have not been concentrated on here...

Trying to play the long game here too...

doublechocadooberry · 13/05/2019 20:27

bizzey that made me laugh too. Lets hope what he did get down was spot on.

marmiteloversunite · 13/05/2019 20:36

English lit just seems like a bloody memory test rather than concentrating on the actual book. It's meant to inspire students to read instead of putting them off with a hundred quotes to learn!

Moan over!!

Iambuffy · 13/05/2019 20:50

I agree marmite
I don't think ds1 will ever voluntarily read poetry again :(

raspberryrippleicecream · 13/05/2019 21:00

We are over the starting line here too, with RE this afternoon. DS2 reasonably happy. After a very dramatic DD I'm feeling a bit non-plussed.

Good luck to everyone.

chocolateworshipper · 13/05/2019 21:08

I hear you marmite - totally agree

Bimkom · 13/05/2019 21:32

Yes, DS loathes the language analysis and the quote learning for English Lit, and can't wait until he never has to do it again. He does say that he thinks it has given him an appreciation of good literature, but he hates doing the essays, and the memorisation (and dislikes Dr Jeckyll most). We are getting them finished in reverse order of liking - first the French, which he is dreading (well the writing on Friday in particular), then the English Lit (finished by end of next week), then the English language, and then we get the stuff he likes (altthough te sciences are not in the order of appearance, he prefers biology and chemistry to physics, even though he loves maths), and he dislikes the memorisation for the geography case studies as well.

gleegeek · 14/05/2019 00:02

I havent found anyone whose dcs like Jekyll... they couldn't have chosen a worse text to inspire them! I don't think dd has learned any quotes for Jekyll at all, she has concentrated on her Macbeth ones... poetry will be crammed over the w/e I fear. We're playing the long game too - ignoring short course RE and eng lit! Aaaagh!

marmiteloversunite · 14/05/2019 06:18

Thanks everyone re Jekyll and Hyde. DD has decided to try and learn ten quotes that can be used with different themes. Then look at some character quotes. Hoping the Romeo and Juliet quotes will pull her through.

Biology today.

Luciaia · 14/05/2019 06:28

Dd has learnt 0 English lit quotes. She’s revised since the Easter holidays but not English which she feels can be done the night before. Now, she is also only revising for the exam that is the next day which I’m not sure is the best strategy.

Iambuffy · 14/05/2019 06:42

Ds1 is pretty good on animal farm and Macbeth so hoping they are enough.

1sr exam for him this afternoon...biology.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 14/05/2019 07:06

Morning all - good luck to everyone for biology!

grauduroi · 14/05/2019 07:10

DS is off to French and Biology today to kick off his exams ! He wants to take both of these for A level so I'm hoping they won't be too stressful...however Eng lit tomorrow could be a different matter Shock

Iambuffy · 14/05/2019 07:27

Ds1 wants to do a level biology too...so today's a big day 🤞

ILoveYou3000 · 14/05/2019 07:28

Looks my DD the only one here that's looking forward to English Lit, tomorrow it's Macbeth and Sign of the Four, she's been working on quotes, themes and character profiles all weekend.

French and Biology today, we've pretty much written off French, but feeling confident about Biology.

I'm shocked at how calm she is. She suffers with anxiety (to the point, there are measures in place at school) and I've been dreading this month, but she came home yesterday afternoon full of chat, laughing and having had a great day at school. This morning she seems just as upbeat, so I'm following her lead. Fingers crossed this is how it stays for the next month.

Good luck to all doing their French and Biology today.

Iambuffy · 14/05/2019 07:40

Ds has just staggered downstairs and I've put his breakfast in front of him so he's happy for now :)

Dh back tomorrow night thank God

pointythings · 14/05/2019 08:33

DD kicks off with Biology today, which is a big one because she wants to do it at A level. French listening and reading in the morning, but that's less of a toughie. And I brought her back some Chocomel from Holland, so she's happy.

She actually likes Jekyll and Hyde and enjoys English Lit - outside of school work she had been reading Pride and Prejudice for fun. She is an odd child.
