If so I’m in.

DS (my pfb) will be going into year 11. Mocks after half term. Crossing my fingers for him - needs average point score of 6.5 (across all 10 subjects) to stay for 6th Form.

Anyone else?

Myrtle - I feel the same way about a-levels and ds. He will be in a much better place when he is able to focus on subjects that he genuinely wants to do, rather those he is made to do. Fingers crossed, anyway!

I'm really pleased to say that after a good English (in both Lit and Lang) result, he is now seriously considering it for A-level. He had previously dismissed it in favour of Media Studies, but I think he is starting to realise that a) he's really pretty good at it and b) it's a much better option than MS.

Nice new name destiel! Wink

Destiel · 24/01/2019 17:26

Thank you!

Ds1 is the same - he'll be much happier when he can concentrate on his own choices.

Anyone else's dcs really really tired!?

I thought this with it being bsvk to normal ds1 would feel better but the poor kid looks dreadful...he hugged me yesterday afternoon and I asked him if was ok and he just said "I'm really tired" :(

He's on a multi vit for teens - rats well, no junk really. Drinks water. Exercises regularly.
Anything else he can do to boost his energy levels?

Hope everyone is ok, mocks results on weds (gnashes teeth)

gleegeek · 27/01/2019 19:25

Yes dd is exhausted! So much pressure from school, huge amounts of homework and expectation to be revising on top of it. We're doing the multivits, healthy diet and exercise thing too and trying to fit in watching some comedy tv as well. No other ideas really, just trying to pace her.

Stelllastar · 27/01/2019 19:29

Dd has decided to start ‘proper revision’ tomorrow so I expect exhaustion similar to during and after the mocks before Christmas. And there’s no reasoning with her in terms of pacing herself or exercising. God help them (and us) all!!

Destiel · 27/01/2019 19:30

Sorry to hear that glee

I came down one evening at 10.50pm to find ds slumped over the laptop! :(

I guess at least the real things are over 20 days, not 9!!

(Clutches at straws...)

myrtleWilson · 27/01/2019 19:46

Oh sorry to hear of super tired offspring... Mine is too (although a late night last night due to a party probably didn't help!)

Only one result left to go here - two on Friday - English - good but she was disappointed but knows where she went wrong (essentially so hyped up she wrote and wrote and lost focus in her writing - so she's going to do some mini exercises about spending two minutes reading the question and adding prompt words next to it - like "audience" "evidence" etc.

I've tried to explain that spending those two minutes when you turn over the paper, breathe deeply, read the question, read it again, highlight words, write prompts and then read it again - won't lose her marks but could in fact gain her marks. I think she gets it.

However, RS was an excellent result so she was very happy with that.

Good luck for Weds destiel

Thank you!

Hi all new to this page - looking for good revision materials for English Maths and Science. I was sent this link today and wondered if it was worth trying it out www.tes.com/teaching-resource/macbeth-knowledge-organiser-12056552

Ds1s teachers recommends thug notes for English

6th form interview tonight at our local 6th form which is part of DD2's school. She needs two sciences to do her chosen degree, but physics and chemistry aren't options for her and school doesn't offer geography. The unis she is looking at accept psychology as long as she has two facilitating subjects (she will have) so she's decided through gritted teeth to do that. To be fair, looking at the spec it looks pretty interesting and my experience working in mental health should come in handy for supporting her.

AtiaoftheJulii · 28/01/2019 20:25

Has she applied anywhere else?

My dd has decided she probably wants to stay at her school, but they don't do the Philosophy/RS board that the local colleges do, and she prefers the other one! She's looking at the overall picture and will put up with the non ideal course I think.

Just realised we're getting close to the end of this thread! I'll make a new one ...

pointythings · 28/01/2019 20:58

Atia no, the deadline is well past... We just thought that geography was such a normal thing that it would be offered at A-level. Nope.

Too late to change 6th forms now, plus the logistics would be horrible - the nearest good ones other than our local ones would involve a long commute and having to wear uniform which is actually quite a big deal for our family of uniform haters. DD2 has been itching to get out of uniform so the commute/uniform combo would put us off completely.

AtiaoftheJulii · 28/01/2019 22:09

Is it that not many wanted it, or they've just cut it for some other reason? You're completely right though, you wouldn't expect Geography not to happen! What a bloody pain.

pointythings · 29/01/2019 07:55

It seems to be that they can't keep good Geography teachers. They do MFL and the current French group has 1 student so defo not numbers.

srilankadreaming · 29/01/2019 20:30

glee- we have a very tired DD here too. January is so bleak. She was doing as much revision as possible before Xmas for her mocks given her mental health difficulties and did reasonably ok on her mocks. Very relieved but it seems to have come at a cost. She just cant get motivated and revision has come to an abrupt stop. She is doing sooo much Art though. Bloody Art! I wish she'd not taken it tbh. It seems to take a disproportionate amount of time.
We did try Thug Notes tonight - hilarious, even if not v in depth revision. But a great way to liven up English Lit. Me and DH enjoyed it anyway!
