As the Tiffin deadline looms, is there a girls SW London grammars / indies thread yet?

I just realised that I need to get the Tiffin Girls form in ASAP, and wondered if anyone else is in the same position? I could do with company in this process!

We’re not yet decided but probably applying to Tiffin, WHS, SPGS, Sutton High and maybe one of PHS / Emanuel / KGS.

Ah so yes WHS is earlier this year. Good suggestion re calling them!

Sweetnhappy1 · 05/02/2019 20:22

State school half term was definitely a week earlier last year.

FlumePlume · 05/02/2019 20:39

I didn’t see anything funny, 1ndig0, but the thing that sticks in my mind is that dd had a girl come in late and sobbing to one exam, only to leave 10 minutes later, still crying. Same exam, someone else threw up in one of the breaks. A reminder that some of the children are under huge pressure, and I’m looking for a school that will counteract rather than reinforce some of that.

And Bool, I’ve had very helpful and positive e-mails from the WHS admissions person, so if your post doesn’t arrive I’d be very tempted to get in contact by e-mail and see if she can send it as an attachment.

Oooo @FlumePlume thanks. I may well do that x

To answer kaliforniadreamz etc about whether state schools know where if the kids have an offer - I didn’t say they don’t know where their year sixes go (we were given a list of leaver destinations in yr 5 at the moving into secondary school evening thing) BUT I highly doubt the schools my daughters did exams for sent letters to my daughters school saying that they were making an offer - why on earth would they ? It’s a totally separate system. I never even thought that they’d know

littlemisslucky2 · 05/02/2019 21:22

I don’t know for definite if they contact state school heads by e-mail but I suspect they do otherwise would it not be discriminatory to let some schools know and not others? I doubt state schools would let on to parents that they know about offers though.

Sweetnhappy1 · 05/02/2019 21:36

Flume my daughter saw something similar, I think it was at one of the GS school stage 1 exams.

PatienceVirtue · 06/02/2019 12:34

I think kids in blazers and badges on a Saturday or an all-day interview/exam process is quite funny. Also the girl who got out a portfolio, unbidden, in a group interview. My dd was wide-eyed about that 'she had the poshest voice I've ever heard and the way she said pooorrrt-foe-lee-ooo'.

I'm pretty certain they do let schools both state and private know the day before we get to hear. But our head is far too upstanding to give me a wink. Unfortunately.

Kawasaki · 06/02/2019 13:02

At my DD's state school, all Y5 parents are given the leavers' destinations before the end of summer term. Early October, Head teacher asks Y6 parents to provide a summary of pupil's qualities for secondary school transfer. Base on that the reference letter will be drafted and sent to private school if required. There is no charge for private school the reference letter.
Head teacher is also included in the offer letter so I am sure that she/he will know about my child's private exam results.

OVienna · 06/02/2019 13:55

I would think if they're going to tell one school, they'll tell them all. I can't see them sorting through the varied list into private/non private categories. Who could be bothered to do that, with the number of applicants? I am sure they know some of the schools by name and whether they are state or private.

I don't see why you couldn't ask though.

OVienna · 06/02/2019 13:56

I mean - what they're policy is not the schools whether they 'already' know if you have an offer or not.

Sweetnhappy1 · 06/02/2019 14:11

The Wimbledon High letter arrived today (a day early) and it's an offer for DD.

littlemisslucky2 · 06/02/2019 14:27

Congrats Sweetnhappy!! Is that your first choice? We didn’t try for WHS but heard great things about it.

winterishereithink · 06/02/2019 14:28

Well done sweetnhappy! DD started there in September and is very happy!

winterishereithink · 06/02/2019 14:29

Well done your DD obviously!

littlemisslucky2 · 06/02/2019 14:34

I wonder why they sent them out a day early when it says on website they were posting today. I’m expecting two letters on Saturday but wondering if they will be earlier!?

hippospot · 06/02/2019 14:42

Is anyone in the same boat as us? Waiting for Tiffin Girls result with local state schools as 2nd, 3rd etc choice?

DD did the Tiffin test only (no other selective schools) and got through to the second round. We live on the doorstep and she would love to go. I'm tying myself in knots trying to anticipate if she got in or not. Only another 23 days to wait ...

I keep wondering if being in the inner area does actually help much or not. And it's completely out of my hands so I need to just wait and see :)

Bool · 06/02/2019 14:47

Wow @sweetandhappy that is amazing news!!!! Well done to your DD. Am sitting at work now wondering if I should go home. But you can rest assured my letter won’t have arrived yet hahaha

Jimjam68 · 06/02/2019 15:02

We have an offer too. There I was all relaxed not expecting any letters today!

Sweetnhappy1 · 06/02/2019 15:07

Congratulations to your DD Jimjam68!

Thanks Littlemiss and Winter! Yes it was our first choice, although we are waiting for the Tiffin result. Glad your DD is enjoying it Winter.

Bool hope the post comes for you soon, fingers crossed for you.

Kawasaki · 06/02/2019 15:09

Congratulations to those who have had the offers.
Littlemisslucky2:
They might come earlier as we received our letter last Friday even though it was confirmed being posted to arrive on Saturday.
Good luck.

Bool · 06/02/2019 15:11

Congrats JimJam68! Is WHS your first choice?

1ndig0 · 06/02/2019 15:15

Huge congrats to your girls JimJam and SweetAndHappy WineStar

Good luck everyone else!

Bool · 06/02/2019 15:15

Jimjam - wasn’t your post a day late for PHS like mine? Maybe they have their act together today! They should red mark our houses at the post office. All those waiting for 11+ letters - special priority!

littlemisslucky2 · 06/02/2019 15:49

Congrats to your dd Jimjam & good luck to others waiting.
Hippospot - there are quite a few of us waiting for Tiffin girls school. It’s been a very long wait! Good luck on March 1st. I’m sure being in the inner area is an advantage - we’re not so don’t think we’ve got much chance on offer day.
