AQA grade boundaries

DollyPlastic · 16/08/2018 11:44

Can anyone help please? DD didn't do great in her A level Psychology and it says she's got 150 marks which is an E.

I can't find any grade boundaries for this exam so no idea if she's close to the boundaries or not. I'm not necessarily after a remark (don't think they exist anymore) but she's wanting to know how close she was.

Pretty sure she didn't get 150 marks. 150 out of the possible 288 marks on the new reformed a level was a solid c grade, according to aqa's grade boundaries spreadsheet for psychology...

xyzandabc · 16/08/2018 11:57

I agree with physics. If it's the 7182 specification, a C is 132 and a B is 161.

An E would be 104 or less

DollyPlastic · 16/08/2018 13:05

Thank you, I've spoken to the school. She got 103 raw marks.

So close!

@DollyPlastic as far as I Know you can still get a remark with AQA. Both Ds and Dd have had a grade move up with remarks.

I think it's definitely worth it if one grade would make a difference. Your Ds seems very close to a D

BlessYourCottonSocks · 16/08/2018 18:31

You can still get a re-mark in AQA History, certainly. (Teacher here). I would recommend going for it if she is that close.

DollyPlastic · 17/08/2018 08:35

I've looked at the forms and it says they don't do a remark, just check that the marker applied the mark scheme correctly.

Is it worth getting that done do you think? It's £45 per paper and there's three papers.

I’d go for the remark; I’m an examiner and also look at appeals (for another subject) and frankly the quality of marking is patchy at best between examiners. I moved one candidate from a D to an A last year. Clearly that’s very extreme but one mark off a D I don’t think you’ve got anything to lose by getting it rechecked.

TheFallenMadonna · 17/08/2018 09:01

I marked it and it's definitely worth a shot I think. What is the paper breakdown?

DollyPlastic · 17/08/2018 12:09

Pretty shocking breakdown.

Paper 1 35
Paper 2 26
Paper 3 42

Apart from one 16 marker she messed up she actually thought they had gone ok Confused

OP posts:
DollyPlastic · 17/08/2018 12:11

The 16 marker she wrote about obedience rather than conformity apparently.

OP posts:
TheFallenMadonna · 17/08/2018 16:29

She wasn't alone in doing that...
I think a marking check might well be worth it. What do the school say?

DollyPlastic · 17/08/2018 16:56

The school have said to go for it but that we need to decide which paper.

She came home from the first exam saying it had gone well then she went quiet and said "It was Ashe! I've messed it up" bless her. She said it wouldn't be possible to get any of the 16 marks on that one.

Do you do the remarking too Fallen? Do you see the marks already awarded or not?

We are going to go for it, she said try paper 2... does that sound ok?

Sorry for all the questions Blush

OP posts:
TheFallenMadonna · 17/08/2018 18:15

No, not involved in re - marks. Paper 2 does seem the obvious one.

DollyPlastic · 19/08/2018 12:59

I've requested it. Thank you for the advice. I'll let you know what happens.

OP posts:
bionicnemonic · 19/08/2018 13:06

If she doesn’t get her extra marks from that paper will you still have time to have another paper remarked as well? Just wondering if it would be wise to do more than one?

BoneyBackJefferson · 19/08/2018 13:12

The AQA raw to ums converter is

here

TheFallenMadonna · 19/08/2018 13:21

Fingers crossed for your DD OP.

This is a linear course so no UMS.

DollyPlastic · 19/08/2018 13:39

The school advised to do one at a time in case she gains a mark and then drops one in another paper if more than one at a time is done. That happened to them before apparently. I don't know if there will be time if it takes ages.

I hope so.

OP posts:
DollyPlastic · 19/08/2018 13:40

Should I send the others off too do you think?

OP posts:
YourDaughter · 19/08/2018 14:06

I’d ask the school for a script recall (should be £12 per paper?) and ask her teachers to review the marking. If they think it’s unfair then ask for a review of marking. I examine for AQA Psychology and work in a sixth form. They have really tightened up on their internal marking processes and are highly unlikely to remark a paper unless they find a problem with an examiners marking. Sorry Sad

DollyPlastic · 19/08/2018 14:36

We've requested the remark now.

I did think it would be unlikely to change but she's worked so hard and was so disappointed with the E.

OP posts:
DollyPlastic · 21/08/2018 21:11

We asked for a non priority remark so we didn't clog up the system for those needing a quick answer so think it'll be a couple of weeks until we hear but I will update.

OP posts:
thegreylady · 22/08/2018 15:33

I was involved in GCSE remarks for many years. We saw the original markers marked script and our brief was always to see if the mark scheme had been correctly applied by the OM. Any discrepancies resulting in a lower grade would be adjusted. If they resulted in a higher grade they were referred but I never heard of anyone being given a lower grade.
We also had access to estimated grades and to the results of others in the school. A marker who was consistently deviant would have every script they had marked checked whether queried or not.

DollyPlastic · 22/08/2018 15:39

That's interesting that you had access to the grades. would that be the predicted ones? DD was originally predicted a B until the wheels came off earlier this year.
