I've managed to put 23 August into a 'I'll think about that closer to the time' mental compartment, but the anxiety about 16 August (A-levels) has now arrived.

eaglefly · 14/08/2018 20:07

Just catching up on the results. Sorry could not post earlier. Was out and was conserving battery on phone.

DD got A* for both French and Spanish. She got a 8 for History too. No idea what the grade boundaries are like or what Mark she actually got and how close she was to a 9. She would have liked the 9 too. We are delighted.

Stickerrocks · 14/08/2018 20:10

Another excellent result.

BlueBelle123 · 14/08/2018 20:11

Yet more brilliant results well done your DD, I was wondering if everything was OK after you didn't post.....I thought she can't possibly still be in bed Grin

eaglefly · 14/08/2018 20:14

Congrats Farang - just catching up on the thread

TheThirdOfHerName · 14/08/2018 20:15

Very well done to your DD eaglefly

eaglefly · 14/08/2018 20:21

Yes she finally got out of bed , reluctantly agreed to check the results. But literally only a handful of people know - so felt like a fraud to share the results on a public forum since she wanted to keep it really quiet.

However our busy day has passed - we were out with loads of people and it never got mentioned at all today.

We have asked the school about more detail about the history and I still need to see what the grade boundaries are like. She was hitting 9 in mock exams and was predicted a 9 - although with a caveat that the history department had to guesstimate the level for a 9. Will be interesting to compare with actual grade boundary.

sandybayley · 14/08/2018 20:24

Well done @eaglefly DD. Sounds like the history grade boundary for a 9 may well have been pretty high. Can someone remind me what proportion of candidates are expected to get a 9? I think it is pretty low.

eaglefly · 14/08/2018 20:27

Have just had a look and the GB is out for the 9-1 course and you needed 67.3% for a 9. She hit 80%+ in the mock exam Sad

eaglefly · 14/08/2018 20:29

We will just wait for the detail from the school and see then

sandybayley · 14/08/2018 20:32

67.3%? That seems quite low - must have been a hard paper. DS1's school had estimated 80% for a 9 and 70% for an 8.

Cherryburn · 14/08/2018 20:35

Did she do the coursework option eaglefly? Because if so the 9 boundary goes up to 76%

eaglefly · 14/08/2018 20:38

No she did the 3 exam option. It must have gone quite wrong. She did say for one of the papers she should have picked a different question - but it wasn't harder than they had been expecting. Let's see.

LooseAtTheSeams · 14/08/2018 20:53

eaglefly well done to your dd!SmileStar
Don't forget with the 9 it's impossible to predict for history as it depends on how well a very small percentage of high achieving students did. Predictions this year are guesswork.

eaglefly · 14/08/2018 20:55

Thanks loose - I agree x

Cherryburn · 14/08/2018 20:59

Plus, it’s CIE! My heart sank when I saw that DS’s school used them for History as well as 2 x English. DD’s school did English x2 with them and they were notorious for throwing up really anomalous results, particularly in Eng Lang.

Those are fantastic results though. She should be really proud of herself.

Oneteen · 14/08/2018 21:01

Eaglefly - Well done to your DD excellent results ...you will be able to see your dD's UMS score - but I am not sure how they are linking UMS scores to the 9-1 grades it used to be 90+ A* 80 -89 + A etc ...I would have thought a UMS for a 9 would be 95.

That would be helpful to see - thanks Reservoir. We don't have any further breakdown of grade for the 9-1 igcse last but have been given a percentage for the letter graded igcses.

eaglefly · 14/08/2018 21:40

Thank you all for the good wishes - sorry not listing all of you lovely people one by one. Xx

ReservoirDogs · 14/08/2018 21:41

For the letter graded one the number is the ums rather than the percentage they got.

mmmz · 14/08/2018 21:48

Congratulations, eaglefly

ReservoirDogs · 14/08/2018 21:49

I have asked for my post about ums for 9-1 to be removed as I confused myself and it is incorrect and I don't want to.mislead people.

They are not using ums systems for 9-1 and it will be curved on raw marks just like the olden days when I did A levels.

Oneteen · 14/08/2018 21:52

Eaglefly - apologies it does state that UMS will no longer be quoted because they do not need to convert marks to UMS on the new 9-1. I dont know why but there is some info on Ofqual...I am sure your school will assist you.

eaglefly · 14/08/2018 22:06

DD will go into school on Thursday for the Add Maths score and these results printed out so maybe by then they will have a further breakdown - otherwise we will wait for the 23rd. Thanks all
