MedusaBadHairDay · 21/06/2018 16:06

Am looking for inspiration for September for girls shoes suitable for walking 1 mile each way, but also look good, are comfy.....and will last!!
Have read some threads from previous years, but would be good to have some up to date info Smile

These are the obese DD has had this year - she's 14 and wears a size 7. They do them in matt leather too.

ForgetMeNotCat · 22/06/2018 17:29

Dd started off with Clarks brogues but moved to high top kickers in year 9 as they are allowed. They've fitted her well from the beginning without needing to be worn in and are hard wearing.
Which are the DMs?

AlexanderHamilton · 22/06/2018 17:30

They are the same as dd’s Except she didn’t have patent.

dibs1973 · 24/06/2018 22:09

We find DM's the best, just got a bargain pair from the Dr Martens website, well worth a look

MedusaBadHairDay · 25/06/2018 05:28

Which style of DM’s are people going for?

NewModelArmy my dd can't wear Kickers because she swims in them. She keeps trying to convince me when she needs new school shoes but they're ridiculous. She is not happy about it! She's currently in Y6 so I followed this thread because I also want to know what shoes to get her next year for secondary. Currently, she's wearing these start rite ones, which were an acceptable second best, but I'm not sure for next year what to get:

does anyone know how the Dr Martens come up in width compared to Kickers?

MedusaBadHairDay · 25/06/2018 15:52

These are the ones I’m currently looking at - unfortunately in the woman’s section as she’s now a size 6.

I’m not sure if they come up better on a narrower width or not.

These: www.clarks.co.uk/c/Griffin-Mia/p/26115634

(The 'frill' bit is detachable thank goodness - needless to say my DD has detached hers!!) These are brilliant shoes - my DD, just finishing Year 9, walks minimum 2 miles a day to school and back and we bought these last September and they're not worn out yet. Really comfortable, sturdy and are acceptable for 14 year olds :-)

Ohyesiam · 25/06/2018 16:03

My dd has brogues, either with a chunky sole, or similar to the Clarke’s ones posted early in the thread. Both types have lasted the full year.
She has a mile walk on rough terrain, and they are comfortable and do well.

MedusaBadHairDay · 25/06/2018 20:10

@tronkmanton please could you post a picture of what the shoes look like without the frill? They look good too - I’m now making a list of all the shoes I want her to try!

I like the DMs with the tassels. Dd tried a few shoes with tassels on when she was last buying school shoes: kickers, marks and maybe geox. None of them fitted her (think she has odd feet) and in the end the high top kickers fitted her really well and she went with them.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/06/2018 09:57

Thisismynewname123 I like those but not sure about DD. Girls very early on develop a sense of what they like (and don't!). It's a real PITA having DC with very narrow feet, isn't it?

I suspect that the DMs will be of a similar width fitting as Kickers although would love to hear otherwise. Anyone?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/06/2018 09:59

www.drmartens.com/uk/p/kids-shoes-patent-lamper-maccy-ii-y

Those look a bit more girly and more my DD's style.

MrsCharlesBrandon · 26/06/2018 10:25

My yr 9 DD wears similar to the second pair, and has had them for nearly 2 years now. They still look almost new.

Seeing the price of those at the moment too, i'll be buying some for my yr 8DD who is horriby hard on shoes!

MedusaBadHairDay · 26/06/2018 10:35

Those Gabe Shoes from DM say men’s on the link - but they were under the woman’s section in the sale Hmm I’m going to email and double check.

Dd has Kickers the patent T bar ones which a pp linked. They last well and she will wear them into next year too so although a bit pricey I think they are worth it as they wear so well.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/06/2018 09:20

I'm looking for a clear steer from someone that DMs aren't a wide fit (bet they are though). Don't want to raise DD's expectations about getting 'in' shoes if none of them will fit her super slender feet.

PerspicaciaTick · 27/06/2018 09:48

My DD has very long thin feet. Her DMs fit beautifully and her particular style would be too narrow for me. Try reading the reviews for the different styles on Amazon to get a feel for which are narrower.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/06/2018 10:03

Thanks so much for the tip PerspicaciaTick.

halcyondays · 27/06/2018 10:07

Both of mine have the same Clarks ones that Red Sky linked to. They've lasted well.

Thisismynewname123 · 27/06/2018 10:19

I see there's a narrow fit version of DMs, but at that price...!

RueDeWakening · 27/06/2018 13:23

DD isn't allowed Kickers at high school due to the red/green label on them (unless anyone knows of a style that doesn't have it?!), but we've really rated them for primary.

She currently has the Startrite Angry Angels patent brogues which have lasted all of year 6 and if her feet haven't grown by September she'll start year 7 in them too.

Pythonesque · 27/06/2018 13:42

I don't think my daughter's feet have grown since year 6. Currently has 2 pairs the same, one bought in year 7 the 2nd added in year 9, both still ok at the end of year 10 as far as I know (should go and look at them to check!). Can't find the style - think they were Clarks. Personally wouldn't go for patent for school.

MedusaBadHairDay · 27/06/2018 13:52

I spoke to another mum at our primary who’s daughter is going to the same school as mine. Conversation got round to uniform and then shoes. She said her daughter really wants dm’s but also has long thin feet so is wondering if they’ll find any that fit.
