Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and Since You've Been Gone here, too. I'm performing in a concert that includes EKN in a few weeks time. Am going to give it a few more days before I broach the subject of whether DD fancies coming along to support her long suffering mother!

PeggySchuylar · 05/06/2018 22:31

When DD picked up her y10 gcse results (maths, numeracy, eng Lang and eng lit) she went into the hall with her big sister while I waited outside in the car.

Ten minutes later DD came out and walked over to the car with a poker face that I couldn’t read. She gave me the results sheet and she’d done really well.

She said she thought she’d make me guess the little horror Angry

TheThirdOfHerName · 05/06/2018 22:32

DS2's school never has photographers asking pupils to jump in the air. It would take them a while to find a whole row of white kids (which those stock photos always seem to be) and forever to find any girls.

calzone · 05/06/2018 22:42

We forgot about results day until ds reminded us!!! And we were about to book our holiday to get home on 25th August!!!! 😭😭😭

We’ve rebooked now.

I’ve had to take a big step back and just not really ask any details.

The only thing I do is put a surprise treat on his desk for when he gets home after every exam which he says he really loves. I hadn’t taken into account there are 27 exams!!!! It’s costing a fortune 🤣🤣🤣🤣

So, I’m cool, making really nice dinners and buying little treats. I don’t know what else I can do......🤨🤨

TheThirdOfHerName · 05/06/2018 22:44

That's a lovely idea calzone

Oratory1 · 05/06/2018 23:00

Sticker at DS school it would take even longer to find a clutch of A* s so no photographers here either 😂

Not sure whether DD2 was more worried about her results on the big day or whether she might accidentally be in any photos on the website etc

Great approach calzone. I picked DS up with a chocolate bar after the first exam and as it went well he knows I daren’t not keep it up in case it brings bad luck

mmzz · 05/06/2018 23:09

Do they need to find girls with A*s? I thought they just got a group of pretty girls who are willing to jump in the air waving a piece of paper and then in the text below just write about the grades that some of the students got (but, not necessarily the same ones as in the photo).

I always thought that they let the reader think that the girls are the high achievers but without actually lying directly. Just not correcting a false impression.

No?

Thanks mmzz for new thread,

stickerrocks having a DD with anxieties I too struggle with the 'just get a grip' and have to channel all my inner empathy we too use my nephews dog as a therapy dog and ensure regular visits to keep her calm.

English language went well today - she did a story on trump and Korea in year 3000 when all other nations didn't exist, with a twist of the UK declaring war on America at the end 😆 AQA here and she said it was fine - standard response that requires no further discussion unless initiated by her!

No exam tomorrow but revision for maths and history apparently. Let's see how that goes home alone.

Cblue hope DD can see light at end of tunnel - nearly the there

stickerrocks we def have same DD and you and me sound similar!

sosten can't wait to see the pallet sofa when it's done. Are we all invited to yours for a summer 'we survived GCSEs' party?

Wise words hmc let's just let them get on with it.

I have already been told I can take her to school on 23rd but to wait outside! Will have to palm DS off on SIL first!

Cblue · 05/06/2018 23:16

DD goes to an all girls school so they would have a hell of a job finding some boys Smile

I have bought DD some pressies too. Favourite has been a black t shirt that says “Eff off I am revising”. Pretty sure it will be packed away and reserected in 2 years

AlexanderHamilton · 05/06/2018 23:20

Dds school don’t leap they jete don’t you know!!!

I think they try & get a couple of higher achievers in but the photo usually featured anyone who has been able to turn up in person.

calzone · 05/06/2018 23:27

Ds got his hoodie today.

It’s really nice and he chose a really good colour.

Someone chose yellow and looks like BigBird in it!! 🙈

EllenJanethickerknickers · 05/06/2018 23:43

No leavers' hoodies for DS3. He never wore his primary school one anyway. Grin

When DS1 got his GCSE results he wouldn't let me go in with him, I had to wait outside school for what seemed like hours. He relented for A levels. I had somehow become less embarrassing between him being 16 and 18.

DS2 has ASD and needed me with him. His results were more than he needed for college, so another happy day.

DS3? Hard to tell. He's determinedly anti-cool so may let me come in with him 'cos he just doesn't care! Wink

BackforGood · 06/06/2018 00:04

I think you are right mmzz Grin

Deni99 · 06/06/2018 00:04

LooseAtTheSeams - Thank you so,so much for getting back to me. DD and I feel so much calmer! Maths next for us -really good luck to all xx

Sostenueto · 06/06/2018 05:10

Well halfway through week! Spanish today for dgd so not so stressful as yesterday. I felt an ogre yesterday for not being as empathetic as I should have been to dgd and English. But sometimes you have to be a bit tough before everything falls apart. Disappointment over one exam must not ruin other exams to come so a stiff talking to may have to be used. All is well now and determination to not let exams defeat her after all the hard work done over the years is reinstated! Cuddles and kisses in abundance and it will soon be over for all dcs!
Good luck to all today now off to take reluctant pup out before picking up dgd and taking to station.Wine

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 06/06/2018 06:31

The photo at dds school is definitely the high achievers. Not all leggy blonde girls (although they are all white due to school demographics)

I told dd my parenting journey would be complete if she got on the photo. I got a look that can only be described as 'Side eye' Hmm

Grin
LooseAtTheSeams · 06/06/2018 06:45

Cat turfed me out of bed again! I still wasn't up as early as Sos! You were right to be a bit no-nonsense with dgd, and it sounds as though she's bounced back. I think the pallet sofa is inspired. I wish my sketches looked like that!
Deni99 no problem at all. It's difficult to know how you've done when you can't see the full range of entries.
DS's school are fairly low key on photos on results day but there is a group picture of some of the boys with the mayor or a local councillor. No leaping in the air.

Stickerrocks · 06/06/2018 07:14

cblue They would have a quandary in DD's school for a photographer. The girls like DD who should get appropriate result for publication don't have the right look, whereas the glossy girls who have spent the run up to getting their results perfecting their look probably won't have the desired results.

Stickerrocks · 06/06/2018 07:15

Kick we also have the same demographic issue.

mmzz · 06/06/2018 07:22

Sostenuto nothing to do with GCSEs, but I thought this might be helpful. DH and I built garden seating when we were first married. Our neighbour was one of those people who just knew everything about gardening and DIY. She gave us some advice which turned out to be 100% right and I think it might be helpful for you with your design.
She said people don't sit comfortably with their heels directly below their knees. They need to have their heels slightly further back, otherwise they will keep scraping their heels against the wall (in our case) / wood (in yours).
So, when you build that seating area, you need to have the top come out an inch at least beyond the sides, and it needs to be supported so that when people sit on it, the mattress doesn't start sloping towards the ground. The other option is to make the sides slope.
If you look at any seating furniture, you'll notice that they all do this.

Just spoken to ds about English Lit and the furore.......

He said he studied Ozyman poem but not Singh song. There was no choice.

How could he get marked down for doing the Ozy poem???

beenrumbled · 06/06/2018 07:32

calzone DS was the same - and they never did the past paper question on Ozy either. And he compared it to one of the more complex poems, and feels he did well. He will be gutted if he is marked down.

BlueBelle123 · 06/06/2018 07:36

The issue is that DC either studied 15 poems for power and conflict one of which was Oxyman or they studied l5 poems for Love and Relationships one of which was Singh Song, Oxyman was in a previous specimen mock paper Singh Song wasn't.

calzone · 06/06/2018 07:36

beenrumbled from reading on here, I had understood that he would have studied both poems and if he chose Ozyman he would be marked down but he has never even read Singh Somg so wouldn’t have chosen it.....

Maybe we shouldn’t discuss papers on here as we get overwhelmed by it all......🤣🙈🙈🙈🙈

calzone · 06/06/2018 07:37

Blue......so AQA should be fined then and our children shouldn’t be marked down for something that isn’t their fault.
