dd has spent the day in the library, she is in very good spirits getting up first thing and trotting off (presumably it is quite sociable there)
ds2 has been a bit half hearted; I felt quite irritated with him especially when I tried to practise at his request some non fiction extracts for the language paper next week. was reduced to telling him to read Adrian Mole so that he could understand the difference between formal words, colloquialisms, hyperbole. Tone is proving a big problem for him.

otherwise, a sea of mess here, everyone is rather loud and keeps breaking off to "think" or other euphemisms for watching telly..

Nettleskeins · 02/06/2018 20:21

Kingscote I love the strangely stunted pencil! I worry terribly about that pencil and whether we will find one suitably sharpened and without a broken lead on the day of reckoning!

Teenmum60 · 02/06/2018 20:22

I think CIE are out on 14th ...but released on 16th ...Edexcel IGCSE are still the 23rd..

sandybayley · 02/06/2018 20:22

@slinkyme - we have some CIE exams and Ad Maths as well and are getting them on the 23rd. I guess our school is holding them back to release with all other exams.

Cblue · 02/06/2018 20:24

Oooerrr. We have been told all results on the 23rd (mainly IGCSEs Cambridge with Edexcel for science and GCSES for Maths eng Lang and art). Parents actively encouraged to attend at 9.00 - probably because they can’t face the idea of crying girls (happy or sad!!). Can’t say as I blame them.

Remember picking my O Level results up - no nerves, no parents and no stress. My how times have changed!!!!

slinkyme · 02/06/2018 20:27

Oh that's interesting sandy. It is strange for the school to hold onto the results - maybe they would rather DC only know about the results on one day so that teachers are around for any questions/supports. A parent from another year in our school told me that when they did it they had so many different dates for results that there wasn't this build up to going into school on results day as they were getting them drip fed.

I have to say i would be so nervous knowing that the results are there, the school knows and we don't.

Teenmum60 · 02/06/2018 20:30

Looked at Schuh for shoes - Thanks @Stickerrocks ...DD has fixed idea's of what she wants - the problem seems to be finding a size 4.5.

AlexanderHamilton · 02/06/2018 20:40

Ds’s prom shoes & Prize Day shoes are from M & S. They do half sizes.

HesMyLobster · 02/06/2018 20:42

Love the craft challenge idea Cblue!

Teen ASOS, New Look and Miss Selfridge (online) can be pretty good for small shoe sizes. What style does she want? (I don't want to think about how many hours I have spent this half term looking at prom shoes with fussy DD1 - but would love to put my new found expertise to good use if I can!)

DD2 has definitely relaxed things a bit this weekend and spent time with friends today etc. She's still out in a good few hours but I think she did need a break after working pretty steadily all week.
Psychology (A level choice) on Monday starting off a tough week for her.

At DDs' school Results Day is a pick up on the day or post only if pre-arranged scenario - no emails or texts that's for sure! Think they're too worried about something going wrong.

I had to work on DD1's results day, luckily she was happy to go on her own. In fact, DD2 ended up going with her, so she already knows what to expect on the day.

DD2 hasn't said yet what her plan for that day is, but I imagine she'll go with friends and I'll have to wait for that phone call again!

Cherryburn · 02/06/2018 20:48

Yes CIE out a week earlier. DD's school emailed them out separately the week before the rest (she did English Lit & Lang with them) and given that English was an A Level/degree choice it made for 2 very tense mornings! On balance I'd rather they were held back and given with the rest (as DS's school does).

Wonderwine · 02/06/2018 20:49

Not too bad day here, although I was a bit hacked off to discover that DH had arranged to go to meet his sister for lunch (150 miles away) as it's her birthday this week but assumed I wouldn't want to go as I'd 'want to be around to make sure DS2 was revising' Hmm
I have 'been around' for the last 3 weeks since study leave started and I was rather hoping DH would 'be around' for a change to do some Maths & Science with DS!
Anyway I have decided I am going out ALL DAY tomorrow and DH can pull his weight. I've arranged to meet a friend for lunch and will also go shopping.

I've tried to vary locations for revision today with DS as he had started referring to the study as 'his cell' Grin. It's still like pulling teeth though!

Our school does GCSE results in a brown envelope from 10 am, or online at lunchtime. DS wants to go in, but doesn't want his friends to see what he got though. I've told him he can just smile, whatever his results, and say he's happy with what he got and then leave!

slinkyme · 02/06/2018 20:55

Have to say we aren't taking much about what we will do on results days as not talking about results at all. That's the bit that you cant control and any talk is likely to trigger stress. I guess we will get more specifics about timings etc once all exams are done.

Can definitely understand the feeling a cell. DD says the similar and has taken to revising in the garden when she can. She got out this evening to meet a friend which was nice for her.

Teenmum60 · 02/06/2018 21:01

Thanks Alex/Hesmylobster/Stickerrocks - I was just looking at ASOS - we did also look in M & S too - she will not go into Clarks - which actually may have a pair that fit her.
Nothing sparkly (whatsoever so no glitter/sparkles anywhere), block heels but must not be too high (she is 5ft9), she looked initially for Nude but would accept Black...Ideally sandals not shoes..must fit (which seems to be our big problem - size 4.5 but she doesnt like it if there is gap between her foot and the shoe which you sometimes get with that style of shoe).I ordered some on-line but they were not great..we have tried New Look (where she has brought several pairs from in the past). She doesnt need the dress altering - thankfully.

We do have 10 days to try and find some when exams finish...but given that we have been looking since Feb time not hopeful.

androbbob · 02/06/2018 22:14

Evening - on catchup here again!

bluebelke match was a football tournament - did well first day but second day was a shambles! Some very big premier league teams and we struggled again teams we should have beaten. Weather and hotel were good - tired now!

DD almost ready for history and psychology on monday

KingscoteStaff · 02/06/2018 22:29

OK, big disruption this evening. DS has been called up to play for the County U18 side tomorrow. I was all for saying ‘Thank you so much, what an honour, obviously not available, so sorry’ but DH and DS have outvoted me and he’s going to play. No exam on Monday, but that’s not really the point and WHAT IF HE BREAKS HIS HAND? And breathe...

Theimpossiblegirl · 02/06/2018 22:59

Teenmum We got some good shoes in Matalan for a wedding. £15. Worth a look.

We've had a night off, dinner out and a theatre trip to see Priscilla. A lovely break for dd and indeed all of us.
A busy 2 weeks ahead but then it's over.
:)

Theimpossiblegirl · 02/06/2018 23:00

Also try Peacocks, they had some low block sandals.

Teenmum60 · 02/06/2018 23:14

KingscoteStaff - Well done to your DS...It may work in his favour (hope it goes well). I was surprised how well the DC's cope with sport commitments - last weekend that some of DD's cohort were rowing in the Nationals and when the exams started one girl was playing U18 Lacrosse for England with 6 exams the next week. I think any sport at that level must give them a boost.

Thanks Theimpossiblegirl - We have always had issues with shoes...the winter is fine when she can wear UGG type boots/the summer great in flip flops but any dressy type shoes are a nightmare.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 02/06/2018 23:20

I remember when I got my GCSE results. Rural school with huge catchment so we were given an exact time to phone the school office and our results were read out to us. If we missed our slot we had to wait to get them through the post. The teacher read mine out wrong. I was pleased enough with what I thought I'd got so had double celebration when the letter arrived on the Saturday Grin

It would have been awful if it had gone the other way.

No revision at all here today. Dd has been at work and took the evening off. A full day of geography and English tomorrow.

goodbyestranger · 02/06/2018 23:36

sandybayley I've just stepped in the door after a week away too and found the older brother who was theoretically in charge has vanished to London for two nights of parties! Still, DD seems fine and had the dogs to chase away burglars and the house looks good. I think DD wants the exams to get started again in order to get them done with - this half-term can be a bit of a limbo and I think she'll be pleased when Monday arrives.

hmcAsWas · 02/06/2018 23:43

Can you write to them / email them in advance to explain that Sticker?

Have you had confirmation of which of the two taster days your dd is on yet?

Reading the posts on here about results day has given me a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach!

TheThirdOfHerName · 02/06/2018 23:45

I can't cope with thinking about results day(s) yet.

HesMyLobster · 02/06/2018 23:52

Nope. Me neither. Reading this thread today was the first time I'd really thought that far ahead and now I've got "the dread".
Determined not to mention it to DDs until exams are well and truly over, I don't want to pass the dread on to them!

hmcAsWas · 02/06/2018 23:57

I will do my best not to think about it until the day before

Might have to have a little holiday from this thread between 15 June (end of dd's exams) and 23 August so that I can pretend that GCSEs haven't actually happened Wink

TheThirdOfHerName · 03/06/2018 00:08

I'm not too worried about 23rd August, as I think DS2 is likely to get the grades he needs for what he wants to do next.

I'm dreading the 16th though. DS1 is very unlikely to get the grades he needs for his firm offer.
His insurance offer is unconditional, but it's a university that's a couple of divisions lower in the league and according to MN wisdom barely worth attending at all
